I have a 30lb thrust trolling motor I use on my bass raider and on my 16' sconoe, I have fished all day and then some and have never drained my my battery. Now I don't break any speed records but it get me around just fine.I had a 55lb and it would suck the life out of my battery. Rolo explained it very well in another thread.

Probably for the same reason many are bashing this reel without ever owning one. Seems to me that those who actually owned and used these reels are very happy with them and would buy another. In this case made in america doesn't mean much. How do you know this if you have never owned or used this reel?

I got a Pelican Bass Raider 8e about 4 years ago.Nice little boat, I'm very happy with it. Fits my needs perfectly. I mainly fish ponds and pits,some have no vehicle access,one is a half mile trek through the woods,another has very steep bank to launch from. So I keep it 100% portable and packable.Throw it on top of my blazer lock in the four wheel drive and get to places others only dream of putting a boat in. I fish by myself about 80% of the time. So I feel there is plenty of room for me.Two people is a little cramped so you got to downsize your tackle and rods. Its very stable and I stand alot of the time. Yes you just hook the trolling motor to the battery and go. I plan on building a better console for my fish finder\gps and adding a light.And some rod holders. Mine is pre-riged for electric so I can plug the trolling moter into the console and then plug the console into the boat. If I can be any more help just ask. Here's a pic.
