  1. Sounds pretty good to me. I just started fly fishing, or should I say attempting to fly fish last year. I take two clients that fly fish only and they let me try it. I would never admit it to my fellow guides or friends but, I really enjoy it. I bought a Battenkill Large Arbor reel last year and a Lefty Kreh rod. It is a 7wt. I cannot tell you how much fun a 3 or 4 pound smallie is. I am going to try it on largemouth this year. I live a stones throw from the Upper Potomac. I enjoyed, in the late summer, wading and fishing the grass beds in wast deep water last year. I would go by myself until dark. I enjoyed it immensely. It was good for the soul. I had three does that had gotten so used to me they would come out of the woods to get a drink and just watch me. I am looking into some other fly rods as well. They are not cheap. I think the deal you were talking about would be a excellent starter setup. Have fun and watch the trees, lol. I tell my friends that if I have a fly rod in my hand to stand back about two zip codes.
  2. :)Well put Ronnie. I guess you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
  3. I have been putting it off because I am putting a new septic system in, a back deck and new spouting in soon. I know it is just a matter of time, lol. Good choices. Don't feel bad, it is a disease !!!
  4. Hey Avid, I hope when you go to your Anger Management class that you have two girls in your class like was in the movie.
  5. Most of the time T rigged with a 1/8 oz bullet wt. Usually not pegged unless I am around wood or a lot of heavy grass.
  6. Let me give you a heads up to make life easy when it comes to wiring on your trailer and in your boat. Most the wiring in boats and on trailers are a cheesy quick connect setup. I took the time a few years ago to replace all my connections by soldering them and putting shrink tubing over them all. I have not had a problem with either trailer or boat since. It was time consuming but, well worth the effort.
  7. Just remember, there are idiots by land , sea and air. You are going to meet them not just on the water in a bassboat but, in all aspects of your life. Rise above them by handling the situation in a calm, adult manner. That really pi**s them off.
  8. Sam, I brought up the self defense aspect of my actions and the judge didn't want to hear it. This " boy " was 17 and bigger than me with a violent past. I could have shot him by law. I did not feel I needed to do that but, I did want him out of my house and he continually threatened me. I had enough. Even the State Trooper could not believe her ( the judges ) decision. That " boy " proceeded a couple of years later to be driving drunk, crossed the center line and hit a car then ran himself into a pole and got killed. I even got a lecture from that judge about having a loaded pistol in my home and pointing it at someone. I tell you this, I still have a loaded pistol on the nightstand and I will protect myself. That judge was later in a series of drunken and drug related episodes that soiled her name. Sorry LBH, I didn't mean to dance on your thread. The unfairness of the ruling on the " Tuna Case " just stirred up some old wounds on a court ruling.
  9. Sounds like you have Excaliber trebles to me. I replace all my trebles with Excalibers. They are my favorite treble hook. Leave yours on your Bombers.
  10. I have noticed over the last few years that rods and reels, both spinning and baitcasting, have rocketed as far as price and technology. Where is the ceiling? Although I enjoy some of the advancements in technology and the quality of this new equipment, the prices are getting insane. I am old school, especially on my baitcasting reels. I love my Curado's, don't get me wrong, but, I still use my Abu Garcia 5600 C3's most of the time. I also love the C4's. I don't mind spending a few hundred bucks on a good rod and reel. Most of my rods and reels cost me around two to three hundred bucks apiece. No problem. I am talking about the reels that cost four hundred bucks with the addition of a four hundred dollar rod. We are talking eight hundred bucks a outfit. Is it really worth it? I know a lot of fisherman around here that own this kind of equipment that are horrible fisherman. They don't know jack, but, they have the best money can buy. I guess my question, to the point is, where do you draw the line? Is that thousand dollar rod and reel going to fish that much better than a three hundred dollar setup? I would like to hear some points made on this subject with some backup. Good luck to all this season and may your rods stay bent !
  11. Fishing is a wonderful thing. I go as much as possible. Just remember, life is all about balance. You are young so try to experience all the good things life has to offer. Spend some time with your Mom doing something you both have a interest in. You will only have one Mom in life and when you get older and have a family of your own you won't have time to spend with her.
  12. Poor decision on her part. I have one for you. A local hoodlum whom was always terrorizing my neighborhood years ago by breaking into houses, wreaking cars, running through peoples yards while driving drunk broke into my home one night. I awoke to hear something and grabbed the gun and went out to find this guy with one of my guitars in his hand. I held him at gunpoint and told him to drop the guitar. He threw it. He was very drunk and could hardly stand up so I put the gun down and drop kicked him in the stomach. He went out through my storm door and it came off the hinges. He fell down some concrete steps and broke his arm. I called the cops. I received papers to go to court. His mother had sued me for medical bills for his broken arm. The judge ruled in her favor and I had to pay for the medical bills. She said I used unnecessary force considering how drunk the boy was and the violent way I handled the situation considering the boy was under 18 was poor judgment on my part and that I should have had my storm door locked. Go figure. :-?
  13. ;DYes, I take bananas in the boat JT, lol, I like to live on the edge. For all you young guys: Please don't attempt to carry bananas in your boat. This should only be attempted by old buggers like me. Again, don't try this at home. ;D
  14. Wow, its pretty breezy on your lake today. From what you gave me, and most importantly the prespawn/spawn scenario, I would fish the sandy flats especially the ones that had stumps on them. I would start out beyond the drop off of these flats near a creek channel and go with a swimming jig, spinnerbait, Silver Buddy or rattletrap first to see what hanging out along the edges of the flat first. I would slowly work my way in over the flat and look for some grass, stumps or anything supporting some type of cover and fish a tube or lizard ( since its so windy) with a 3/16wt. I don't fish for bedding bass so this is a make believe scenario for me.
  15. I used to never eat while fishing but, I don't think that is healthy. If you eat a little something I also find you feel better at the end of the day. I usually take along some deer bologna, sharp cheese and crackers, some fruit like a banana or a apple and a jug of iced tea along with plenty of water.
  16. As we get older we need more exercise. I have found a perfect way to do this. I have started a club that bikes from 4:00pm until 5:00pm every day.
  17. My heart goes out to your family as well as all of the family's that are involved in your area and all the other areas affected by this line of storms. Thursday is my off work day and I have been watching these tragedy's unfold on the news. It is just heart wrenching. It never ceases to amaze me how five or ten minutes of a tornado can change peoples lives forever.
  18. Want to be really happy? Put a Shimano Stradic on that rod. It may be a few more bucks but, it will last a long time and they are just a fantastic reel for the money.

My most productive seems to have been the chrome/blue back for some reason. I also like the red chrome, bone and chrome/chartreuse back. I have used most of the different company's lipless baits and use a Cordell Spot at times but, it is hard to beat the original Rattle Trap. One thing I do when I buy these baits is replace the hooks with no. 4 Excalibers.
  20. I changed over all my round split rings to oval simply because they are easier for me to work with when changing hooks.
  21. Nothing like having a grandchild. My granddaughter has me wrapped around her little finger.

There is no humor in poking fun at any disability. Its just poor taste. Thanks to the administration and to the mods for not supporting or condoning this practice.
