  1. 1) Make sure the line is coming off the filler spool the same way it is going on the reel. In other words, if you begin filling your reel and the line is twisting as it leaves the filler spool, stop and flip the filler spool over. 2) Then continue filling the reel until it is approximately 1/8" from the rim of the spool. 3) Always close your bail by hand and pull the line tight before you begin your retrieve after every cast.
  2. Not. Gonna. Touch. This.
  3. I run 3-5 miles per day depending on how much time I have. jk
  4. I had a sneaking suspicion it would be something like that so I resisted the temptation to ask. I can't disagree with it, though.
  5. I hate to sound like the redneck that I am, but I used a rod with a broken reel seat for many years by using cable ties to hold the reel in place. It worked fine.
  6. I'm sure this is true, but it does not really explain this: As you can see, he is comparing line to line, not the reel's claimed capacity. I suspect that maybe the braid manufacturers are using the mean diameter or maybe the minimum diameter for their claims. In other words, braided line is not smooth like mono or fluoro. It has peaks and valleys along its surface and can be measured anywhere along those peaks and valleys to obtain various diameter measurements.
  7. Here is a recent thread regarding backing off your drag for storage: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1178682246 Personally, I've never done this even though I know it's supposedly a good idea. I've never had any problems with the drag in any of my reels. I'm sure it's still a good idea, though.
  8. Yeah. I've got two of them collecting dust in the garage. I might pull them out if I decide to go catfishing or something.
  9. Dude. You're my hero. I make almost 3x that and some weeks I struggle to fill up the tank on my truck to get to the lake. I have three kids and a stay at home Mom to support, though, so I guess it's worth it. Responsiblity, family, yada yada yada ;D
  10. I agree. Maybe you should go stichin' and start covering some water
  11. I think it is a good article for someone who is very new to the sport. I get your point about power and action, but almost all inexpensive rods and even some highly regarded ones (i.e. XPS Extreme) are simply rated by "action". When I see a rod described as MH, I pretty much know what to expect (i.e. 3.5-4.5 power and medium fast - fast action).
  12. I can tell. The two green ones look like glass.
  13. I'm definitely going to have to give this a try. Maybe it will force me to slow down. It sounds like a low - tech Daiwa Viento ;D
  14. Has anyone used these? Any success stories or otherwise? They look like a Senko on steroids. I am intrigued.
  15. You obviously take pride in your work. Those are very nice.
  16. You have to like yourself. Be confident. Confidence is the single most attractive quality you can have. Ever wondered why the really hot women seem to date the bigest jerks around? Well, that arrrogance is sometimes percieved by these women as supercharged confidence. When you exude confidence, women (and people in general) are curious as to what you have going for you. They think, "Why is this guy so positive about himself? He must have some good things going for him. I think I'll stick around and find out what's up." Also, be interested in her. Ask questions about her. Talk about her interests. Not only people appreciate this, but it also keeps the mystery alive about you without obviously trying to hie anything. Again, she'll want to come back for more to find out about you. Good luck.
  17. I don't think the 2/0 is gonna Git-R-Done with a 7".
  18. You can still use the rod, but it will feel much stiffer now. I recommend removing the last guide you have left and replacing it with a rod tip of appropriate size.
  19. That's what I meant. Raul said it better.
  20. Bandit Footloose. Lucky Craft MOONSAULT CB-001.
  21. I highly recommend fluorocarbon for flukes. You can feel the bait much better which allows you to walk the dog under water with them. I assume that was what was meant by "rythym"?
  22. Yeah, I've jumped in when bank fishing, but I've never needed to jump out of a boat.
  23. No need to be stingy. Why not share it here with everyone? I'm not trying to be rude, but this is a topic on which many of us could, I'm sure, use some expert advice.
  24. Sounds like it could be a jig and Senko day. The water temperature probably hasn't dropped that much, though so they may not be affected that much at all. They don't always do what they are supposed to do.
  25. I don't know about smallmouth, buit when the largemouth are "sucking it in" (i.e. biting very lightly) sometimes the only way you know you have a strike is when the vibrations stop. So go figure.
