  1. I smoke and I don't think the fish care. That is why I've always been skeptical about attractants. I suppose if I quit I might catch more, but I doubt it.
  2. Yep. they taste almost exactly like a bluegill. I had some as recently as last year.
  3. Although I am sorely tempted to make a pithy remark, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. I will say, though, that I will be very surprised if any of your "secrets" have not already been revealed somewhere on this site. You might review the articles and posts on here before you claim something is TOP SECRET if you want to avoid embarrassment. Welcome aboard
  4. Fluoroclear is a good line, but it is not fluorocarbon. It is a hybrid much like the Yo-Zuri hybrid mentioned above. The Fluoroclear is monofilament with a thin fluorocarbon coating.
  5. Just ordered one of these from BPS for my Father's day present (along with some other goodies, of course). I will be using it for drop shotting and shaky heads primarily with a little bit of tube and grub fishing thrown in for good measure. How'd I do? I was going to start a thread debating the merits of this rod vs. Loomis, Daiwa, Shimano, All-Star, Lamiglas, etc., but I didn't have the heart to go through with it so I just decided for myself. I already have BPS Extremes, Loomis and Lamiglas rods so I hate to admit the main reason I ordered it was to try a new brand. St. Croix was next on my list to try, so there you go.
  6. This is only anecdotal evidence. See the quote from Tackletour below. Stretch: Surprisingly, a biproduct of our tensile test was our ability to watch the stretch in each of our line samples before they broke. We stopped short of collecting data on this observation due to a number of questionable variables Also, the Tackletour test was done with dry lines. I am merely saying that perhaps fluoro does stretch less when wet. Perhaps it stretches just as much or more, but this test does not prove it either way. I am willing to accept the results regardless because to me, it feels like it stretches less and that is good enough.
  7. Tipp, I can't believe all the stuff you have to go through. Sometimes I think my life's tough and then I read one of your posts and I thank God that I am as fortunate as I am. I hope that all of these adversities you are going through will make you a better man. It certainly should be making you mentally tough. I will pray for you and your friend. Ceph
  8. I'm leaving the stretch thing alone for now until some hard evidence comes my way. I will say two things, though: 1) I've noticed that my clear fluoro is very visible in ultra clear water so I continue using it mainly for its sensitivity. I will try some green as soon as I run out of the clear. 2) The sensitivity is vastly superior to mono but this is completely independent of stretch. Think of it this way. If you hold a rubber band a steel tension spring of equal length and equal stretch and I tap the end of each with a hammer you will feel the tap much stronger in the hand holding the tension spring. This is because of the spring's greater density and hardness and thus, its greater conductance of vibration. That is why fluoro is so much more sensitive than mono.
  9. Yeah, I don't get it. I usually catch 30-40 bass every hour. You must be doing something totally wrong. j/k Sometimes the bass just don't cooperate.
  10. Yes. definitely buy the best rod you can afford if your using it to pitch jigs.
  11. How can one distinguish between suspended fish and horizontal branches around submerged timber? I regularly fish a lake with a lot of submerged timber and the fish are usually near it. It would speed up my search tremendously if I could use my sonar to locate them and then continue the pattern throughout the lake. Also, I just want to know if it's possible to tell the difference. I have an Eagle Fishmark 320, BTW.
  12. I keep hearing that fishing popularity is declining. The people saying this are not fishing where I do. I don't even bother fishing public lakes on the weekend much anymore. It's insane. I have seen the effects of people keeping bass on some of the 100 acre and less lakes around here and it has ruined a couple good fishing holes for me.
  13. This could be the it! It makes perfect sense. Perhaps we should refer to fluoro as having less elasticity than mono. I don't know if testing will support it, but it sure feels like fluoro has less stretch when setting the hook, so maybe this is true.
  14. I like Stren, but I've heard Sufix is excellent also.
  15. That is the main reason I can't stand to watch Bill Dance anymore. I wish someone would tell him to stop holding his fish like this.
  16. Heavy Cover Buzzbait for wood Soft or hollow frog for floating vegetation Open Water (flats, etc.) Walking bait in clear water Popper in stained water Target (laydowns, pockets in vegetation, etc.) Floating minnow if calm and clear Popper if calm and stained Prop bait if windy As always, these are guidelines only and your mileage may vary.
  17. The first time I fished a jig with a decent rod (BPS Extreme) I set the hook the first 10-12 times the jig hit the bottom before I figured out what was going on ;D The transition to my Loomis jig rod wasn't as difficult because I knew what to expect.
  18. I'm not sure of FL law, but now might be a good time to follow the advice of Mssrs. Page and Plant. Don't take the chance.
  19. LOL! No, seriously. I really laughed out loud and I'm not a laugh out loud kind of guy.
  20. I like it both ways, but I can say this: The largest bass I've caught have been when fishing alone. Probably all ten of my top ten have been caught when fishing alone. Granted, I fish alone most of the time, but I still think that being alone allows me to focus much better. When I am alone, I find myself talking in narrative form as if to an invisible audience. "That laydown has got to have afish on it. Let's see. There she is! It feels like a good one. Alright!" ;D

  23. Do they fall all the way back down or only a little? They are supposed to be free floating.
  24. POST DELETED (tired of beating this dead horse)
  25. I vaguely remember this guy from gym class back in high school....................... ;D Come on! You should know better than to post a question like that.
