For something like that, perhaps a trolling motor or handle operated motor would be more cost effective?

Terminal Tackle What all is need
Don't go crazy buying abunch of stuff at first. As you fish more you will know what you need as far as terminal tackle. Tungsten weights are great.

So I found a Zell Rowland rod on Ebay.
Well the rod came in today, cleaned up the cork and it looks as good as new! Can't wait to use it this weekend.

Importance of Lure Weight Rating on Rod?
I often use hair raisers for stripers that are 1/2 oz heavier than the rod rating. I feel it actually allows me to cast further due to the rod loading -
