  1. Come to think of it for those that considered themself BFS fisherman, or invest in BFS gears, what type of lure are you guy using for bass, 1/15oz Ned rig? 2” crankbait? 4” senko? 1/8oz Shakey head? 1/64oz trout magnet?
  2. And I landed this sahara 750 8lb braid shallow spool alphas 10lb braid rod Majorcraft light/BFS Shallow spool pixy, Tsurinoya UL Landing a big fish with BFS setup doesn’t mean a thing. Landed B I G fish with light line and rod, you just need a good smooth drag and patience. Add some equations into it like cover, tree, weed and your rate would drop faster than stock index. Ppl said they landed those type fish with light tackle all the time, but would they intentionally target those fish with such light tackle? I don’t think so. Again I have plenty of BFS gears suitable for catching smaller bass (bass and Ajing rod not trout rod) which I use from time to time just for fun and not too serious, but if I target bigger fish, under other circumstances beside open water on a boat, I would use other suitable gear. Beside all of this OP lures listed are way far to considered as BFS and on top of that he is new bass fisherman. You are experience light tackle fisherman, I respect that, but to compare yourself with other especially new angler, it might give him a tough time than helping him.
  3. Having land a bunch of 2-4lb bass on UL rod both spinning and casting with 4-6lb line and my 8.5lb PB on Majorcraft Light/BFS on 6lb leader, I can foresee some problems and already proved it true this recent year. First of any cover with too light of a rod it hard to turn or control fish. In weed which I lost a bunch of good one when using 6lb line because fish would buried itself into weed and you don’t have enough power both rod(ML) and line to pull the fish out quick enough, end up with bare hook and a ton of salad. I up size to 10 and 15lb braid (to cut thru weed) with a little bit more backbone rod and able to land most fish. Yes I still use shallow spool reel or what they call BFS but again it is far from being true BFS. And of course I considered myself lucky to land that my first bass on 6lb line. CQ50 6lb braid and Compre M 1/8-3/8oz Ray’s spool on Zillion with 15lb braid and Medium Cruical. 10lb braid Shimano Brenious,Zodias ML 3/16oz
  4. I got myself smith’s sharpener. I only sharpen heavy wire guard jig hook and crappie jig hook which I bought cheapy stuff by a hundred.
  5. Same reason I always said I’m not a BFS guy to use UL rod targeting bass and try to avoid giving any comments. Since I already started let me say this. @kazact95 you don’t need to go all the way to BFS to cast those lures. I use my stock Curado 70 or Alphas SV 105 to cast 1/15 Ned rig with either TRD or 1/2 ZinkerZ all the time and as well as weightless trick worm. But to have shallow light weight spool is just icing on the cake and can help you cast further more accuracy and less headaches. you do need the right rod though, just regular ML bass rod with 1/8oz lure weight with softer tip should be able to handle those weight just fine plus you have backbone when you need it. BTW I have a few nice super lightweight spinning setup but I also prefer baitcaster.
  6. As much as I would want to, I will stick with my cheapo 10 years old crucial and Curado 70 with Ray’s-spool. ??? for 3” Senko. Now tell us about your too big bass, is that a reason you are selling the rig?
  7. You can pretty much store most of the brand in same bag, scent breed might be a good thing but a lot of brand, scent would be gone after a few used. The one that elastic or Elaztech stuffs and need to be stored separately is mainly Zman products. If you ever own one you will know how much it can stretch without tearing. So far I only seen Elaztech with Zman, Strike king 3x (not regular), may be one or two more but if it advertised 3X 5x just test it out.
  8. I like it over flat with some shallow weed. I mostly rip them fast and paused. My friend use Depp buzzjet a lot. It is combination of wakebait and buzz bait.
  9. If you don’t add any Elaztech stuff like Zman, strike king 3X or anything elastic. The only problem is color breeding when you mix light color to dark color and if put too many in one bag it will become a little bit deformed. I have a bag of variety worm for dropshot. I have a few color of Senko or roboworm in each bag. One of my bag all plastic turn to orange color because of Senko pumpkin black flake. I also have a bag mix of Zman for Ned rig and so far not a lot of color breeding. I am like @Team9ninenow only a few bag of plastic and a few hook in my pant pocket is enough.
  10. Thanks to this post and since I haven’t fish Fluke for a long time. I have a little bit of time before my tee time this morning. Went out with my favorite color Arkansas Shad, and caught two. Hopefully I do go at golf game as well.
  11. I used to fish Fluke style bait a lot a couple years ago. I’ve tried them all, Zoom, Yum, Bass assassins, Strike king, Zman Shad, big bite bait and Yamamoto D-Shad. My favorite of them all is D-Shad, I can fish like Senko (same type plastic/salt), cast further, fish it deeper, sink faster, or as fast as I want. The second would be Zoom Super Fluke for color and fish where shallower/weed. I have more than 10 color of super flukes. If I want to down size a little, I use 4” Caffeine Shad. I fish them all from Tiny Fluke all the way to Magnum Fluke and caught plenty of bass big and small. I mostly fish them unweighted with 4/0 Gamakatsu hook (none superline) to give it the most natural movement.
  12. I would use one 3600 box for terminals and a few lures, pop-R, small jerkbait and 1/4 lipless crank. Terminals would be, hook 2/0, 4/0 ewg, #1 and 1/0 roboworm rebarb hook and #1 weedless Neko hook, bullet and dropshot and Neko weight 1/8 and 3/16, and of course 1/15oz mushroom head for Ned rig. The rest would be all plastic in original bag that you could fit. A bag of ZinkerZ (cut 1/2 for Ned whole for neko) a bag of 4” and 5” Senko for Texas rig wacky rig and Neko rig, a bag or two of 6” Fat roboworm (weightless, Texas rig, dropshot and Neko rig). Setup, 1 medium/fast spinning, 10-15lb braid line and 1 medium/fast baitcaster 8-10lb Copolymer. This would be ideally tackle that I would need but in reality that not even close. You said you don’t want to buy anything more, that is really impossible in fishing world. Your curious mind or another word “bait monkey” would tell you to try this or that. After you read other ppl report that first thing come to your mind “I could use that too”. You will find that you need to upgrade your setup or add more because you wanna catch even more and bigger fish. By the time you know it you would have tons of different things in your garage. After awhile (about 1-200 bag of plastic, 10-15 setups) you would realize now you have too many. Then you will become truly minimalist.
  13. Yes, trolling joint wake bait about a foot or two deep. I think the bass follow buzz bait sound from my friend but saw my bait swimming (the last fish caught in video). I also did the same with sprinkler frog, weight them down enough to sink a little and retrieve like spinnerbait around weed.
  14. I’m happy with my Cardiff 200 for medium size swimbait/topwater up to 3oz. I even sometimes use my Curado 200iPG for the same application. I don’t use too big of a line 15 Copolymer and 200 size reel hold plenty. I don’t feel bad to only use these two old reels only a couple times a year.
  15. Which part of cleaning process make Abu different than lews? Just wondering. Most of baitcasters are pretty straightforward and about the same. If talking about more process to clean, Daiwa is the worst, a lot of parts connected to each other.
  16. Which Sahara do you have? my Sahara 750 FB cast very comparable to any 1000-2000 size reel given that it is very tiny spool. From what I understanding old Sahara use lower oscillation gear compare to newer reel with crossX or Xwrap technology. The low oscillation make line lay in uniform pattern instead of X pattern and take more revolutions of rotor to change direction. That might help the line come off the spool better and doesn’t lost a lot of energy when direction changed.
  17. I don’t see any issue you described between all Daiwas and Vanford, but I have small hand/small fingers and I always hold the reel between my pinky and ring fingers.
  18. I’ve had diving in water twice for none rod/reel. First time for my lucky craft jerkbait in my favorite color, snag about 5-10 feet away. Second time was for my big swimbait that I just bought for 30 bucks and only cast once. I had to swim for this one about 20+ feet. Recently I posted about my IPhone got dumped in the water 8’ deep from me jumped down to grab my rod/reel.
  19. Then there will be Tatula LT with Zaion frame at 6.2oz to compare while Stradic FL 2500 is 7.9oz ??? plus it is cheaper and if you look around still around your budget. if you want aluminum reel and don’t care about weight the FL is pretty solid choice. For ML rod techniques, weightless worm, I like Tatula LT way better.
  20. I have 3 setup for jig. 30lb braid no leader, 15 Abazx and 12lb Copolymer. I use different setup for different situation, bank or boat, deep or shallow. For bank fishing and not too deep alway 12lb Copolymer. Braid for when I’m on floating device.
  21. Call smooth drag to see if they have part list for 2500 FL. I take a quick look and don’t see any not even FK. If I’m gonna upgrade the drag for any of my reels, I’ll only use smooth drag. https://www.smoothdrag.com/wp/carbontex-price-list/
  22. I’ll go with @Bluebasser86here. DC wind mode I believe is good for you to learn the casting motion, and aiming target. Choose lure that skip well, 3/8 jig with flat trailer like Havoc or D-bomb, weightless Fat Ika is also skip very well. I like MH rod with a little bit softer tip, lure hang about 8-12” from the tip. Once you get used to with casting motion lower to 3 or 2 but keep spool tension to where you gently tug the line but no over run on your spool.
  23. The 2500 vs 3000 size Vanford is the same 47x17mm spool size? I got the info from Shimano Japan website, @The Bassmanmight be able to confirm that. So going from 2000 size (43x13.5mm) to 2500 size will gain casting distance, bigger drag?, line management and selection of line type. Going from 2500 to 3000 size should get you a bigger handle per @The Bassmanmentioned and a ton of line capacity that would be nice for saltwater fishing not bass. I love my 2000 size for the way I fish, but 2500 wouldn’t be that bad either. BTW I retired my old ci4 2500 for catfish setup and only use 2000 size reel for bass.
  24. Not for me, I normally use lead 1/8-1/4oz cylinder weight. Tungsten for me is over 1/4oz worm weight, the compact size and bottom feedback most beneficial in those area.
  25. Cheapest route is to replace all internal bearing but that only maybe 10-20% of the course. Worst case scenario is to replace gear and pinion (30-50 bucks) that most of the geary feel related to.
