Best Solvent to Flush Bearings
I’ve heard that to spin the stainless steel bearing in high rpm (blow with air can) without any lube would shorten the life of it fast.

Best Solvent to Flush Bearings
A lot of BFS enthusiasm use air bearing or at least abec 7, becuz they believe it helps in startup for super light lure. Casting light lure you cannot just whip it to get the lure moving. I don’t use one so I’m not sure how much it would help, but then again I don’t plan to get myself into BFS just yet. In the mean time I used this opportunity to dry clean one of my hard used reel and video how the air pump work the bearing for you better than let it just soak. You can see the bearing spin itself and that I think it might help getting all the gunk out better than sitting still. If

Best Solvent to Flush Bearings
I use acetone in small mason jar sit on top of air pump for aquarium over night. For stubborn grease I would use carp cleaner, spray into mason jar and soak those over night or use with air pump only for awhile with close supervision. I use plastic to cover on top so the cleaner doesn’t splash everywhere when spray. After that soak in alcohol to clean all solutions. Another tip is to use hot simple green, shake well and rinse with hot water before soak in acetone on top of air pump. BTW all grease that you see on top of bearing from Shimano, those are to shield water to get into bearing. They didn’t really pack grease into bearing just brush outside.

New Bantam baitcaster
And how beauty of this thing. Every time I fish with it I admire it so much that I’m afraid of using it.

Do the Curado E's deserve their legendary status?
They are and they are not. They are some advantage of the reel, like set it and forget it, or easier to control yield to more accuracy. But this can achieve with any reel if you custom with the reel long enough, especially those of Daiwa SV. I still like to use either Daiwa or the E when fishing at night. The E also a workhorse reel and not a lot of issue unlike the I series with noise when cast (easy fix with oil on brake drum) or grinding noise from X-Ship bearing on newer model. Another reel the deserve legacy is the D series, this reel is a tank, cast great and will last for more than a generation. The D, you can swap spool between 100 and 200 size from same frame. The only downside is weight which is 7.5oz on 100d compare to 50e at 6.7oz. The 50e series is one of the best small size reel ever made, nothing come close to it performance and comfort, and when talking E most of ppl target 50e not 200e. Now if it’s deserved 200 for old e, maybe not at least in my eyes. I might pay 200 for core50mg becuz of its weight magnesium frame and aluminum gear, but I doubt it now. I might even sell two of my e (Aldebaran MG7 and scorpion 1000xt) when the time come.

some questions re: curado 70/71
I think he caught a huge flathead with his scorpion 70, and I caught this from the same exact reel. Actually I caught 3 carps and huge catfish with it.

Do people want too much $$$ for used gear?
It is all depend demand and supply, if used gear are in demand then seller might be able to sell at higher price. If you don’t like the price don’t buy it then eventually seller will come to realize he set the price too high. For example if you have Shimano Crucial casting rod Gen 2 6’11 Dropshot specific, I would gladly buy it from you for let’s say 100bucks. Another one, I sold my beat up Chornarch 50e for 160 a years ago, that is almost retail price. In the meantime I bought scorpion 1000xt (same as chronarch) for 175 last year go figure.

Help a 2nd-Year Angler Build 3 Setups Covering All/the Majority of Presentations
You would get widely answer for this, each individual fish different lure, techniques and speed. You would have to tell us how you like to fish, crankbait, finesse or power, cover or not so much in your area. my goto set up is Daiwa Tatula MH 6’10. I fish down from weightless Senko, light Texas rig all the way to 3/8oz jig and 3/8-1/2 oz, chatterbait/spinnerbait and 3/8 jerkbait. I hardly fish anything heavier than this and my lake don’t have a lot of cover so this setup is cover the most of my fishing. So I have 3 of these.

Berkley fusion hooks
Which fusion are we talking here then? EWG, treble hook? I use a lot of fusion 19 EWG in 7/0 and 4/0, they are sharp but also they are thicker compared to other. I like 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu better, I don’t have to set hook as hard to risk of braking my line, but 7/0 (Zoom Magnum Fluke) I prefer fusion all the way. It will fall vertical but also depends on type of plastic. I like the Berkeley half head jig (1/16oz) more than Zman. It look smaller profile?, easier to thread TRD or 1/2 zinkerz. I think it is a tad heavier than Zman because I can cast a little further. Other plastic that not float I like Zman which I use a lot in 1/10 oz as my stand up jig with 4” hula grub and baby brush hog.

Kayak fishing, what weight?
I’m such a newbie, I checked my jig and turn out I grabbed 1/4oz instead of 3/8 jig ?. I planed to take Float tube to same spot but the wind picked up, change of plan I switched to 3/8 oz stand up jig so I can stay in strike zone longer(very painful slow) and went to drop off spot that I can fish from dock. The other drop across is other ppl backyard. Video of yesterday and today that I can confirm, this spot will be good for me to learn how to fish for pre-spawn bass IF I can get there before all the bass boat in Canyon Lake.

Kayak fishing, what weight?
Thanks all of you, even I have kayak for awhile but Im still considered myself very new. I know for sure that these 2 drops “diamond point park” hold fish especially spawning time, right? @OCdockskipper, but the problem is I can’t pin point exactly where the drop start and end and if I miss those, I would end up in very thick silt from many years of lake algae treatment. I’m ready to learn more out of Bank fishing this year. I think I have 1/2 jig and I might try these point on float tube today. It is gonna be lot of challenge year for me since I will be fishing techniques that out of my comfort zone.

Kayak fishing, what weight?
What weight Jig/Texas rig, do you guy use on KAYAK, fishing drop off 25 FOW? Today I went out to Point where I caught bass yesterday, this time with my kayak to really see what under there. Turn out it is a drop off from 5-10 FOW to 25-30 FOW. No wonder yesterday it worked because, I used 3/8 weight jig and hopped up the drop off, today totally different, I hardly felt the bottom with the same jig. Should I up the weight to 1/2oz? BTW manage to caught one bass in the two hours I spent time paddleing around.

Length difference in kayaks
Yup for key phone and most important my cig. The rear well is big but will not fit regular milk crate 13x19. You would have to get the rectangular one.

Kayak depth finder decision
I use my old elite 4x chirp that I remove from my Jonboat to be able to use across 3 platforms, float tube, kayak and Jonboat. I can’t tell you if elite 4x is good or not since I have no idea how to read fish finder. I use Scotty rail track mount with gear head. Let me know if you wanna see how I set mine up.

Length difference in kayaks
Be aware, the rod holder on pro 100 is a joke. It is too big and not secure at all to use. The battery compartment is good only for small stuff like pliers, xtra leash or your phone, it would fit only 5amp battery no dry box. The well in the back always get water in there is you don’t want your things wet you have to buy 2 extra plugs. I didn’t do much on my pro, just recently install yakattack anchor trolley. I didnt fish in kayak much at all last year, only one time and caught one bass. I pledge to use it more this year, along with my float tube. here picture of my setup

To Be Seen Or Not....??
As a lot mentioned, for safety purposes I wear bright color long sleeves shirt when im in water, because I share water with all those speed boats. When blank fish I also where color (a lot of color from blue, green, yellow, red you name it just to be in fashion ?. ). The color I don’t wear is black or nevy blue.

Time to upgrade my baitcaster...
First of all, let me ask you this, why do you wanna upgrade your reel from Blackmax 3 to something else? Blackmax 3 is a good budget reel, light weight and the price is right. I understand you have now two rods and you need one more reel, but if Blackmax 3 work why not use the same. A lot of reels mentioned here are not really better than Blackmax 3 and the reels you mentioned are not a lot lighter than Blackmax 3, except casitas. Let’s talk reels you mentioned. SLX is aluminum frame, centrifugal brake system. It would be totally different and might not cast light weight lure better than blackmax 3. Tatula type R, this is a tank, foolproof reel can last you a life time, but this is huge and heavy reel and also might not cast light lure better than blackmax 3, but you’d get similar magnetic brake system. Casitas, this one is totally different, very light weight, plastic frame. You’d get centrifugal brake system with fine tune adjustment (most benefit for using with light weight lure 3/8 and lower), but you might have to spend some time to dial in. It is super free spool and trend to overrun/backlash if you are not careful. You will get the most cast with this reel plus super easy to handle 1/4oz lure.

At least it was free
Another reason why I don’t fish crankbait and lipless when Bank fish.

Length difference in kayaks
I have pro 100 but never been in 12’. The tracking is not really bad but I do have to adjust tracking every once awhile it might be the way I paddle though. Steering is pretty easy My concern to you is standing, do you stand and fish on your FS128? You might not be able to do it with pro 100. I can stand up no problem but stable is not a lot of room.
