  1. I believe these Legend Glass rods came out well before St. Croix started having so many problems. The problems seem to be post pandemic stuff, not before.
  2. I think so yes. I have straightned hooks on a #2 Mepps with 6 pound tied with a palomar knot. 20 will never break unless its nicked.
  3. Perhaps switch to Sufix Siege? Its just as strong only it casts 1000x better. you can even using it on spinning gear (not 20 though lol)
  4. I like 12 pound mono over 14 because I find it casts a little better. you can make some long casts with 12 pound mono. I use Sufix Siege. I haven't tried Floro but I hear it is stiff.
  5. I would check your guides for a possible flaw that may have caused a nick. I use 20 pound Sufix Siege with big swim baits tied with a palomar knot and its very hard to break, its probably just as strong as Big Game. Unless the knot was really faulty I think the line or knot was damaged somehow. A properly tied palomar with 20 pound Big Game should be like a cable to break IMO.
  6. if that's the case SC needs to get to the bottom of it. They are taking a beating on facebook and reddit (also youtube where people show the broken rods and reel seats). their reputation is taking a hit.
  7. St. Croix rods snapping like twigs these days, social media is a sea of broken rod posts, including many having their replacements break too. I would get a Loomis, even a GCX. it will be better and won't break easily like SC rods do.
  8. I use 12 pound Sufix Siege mono in Smoke Green for my do it all baitcasting rig.
  9. I use 12 pound Sufix Siege on my baitcasting rig for all purpose baits.
  10. Is this on a shimano rod?
  11. I like Sufix Siege or Elite 4 pound mono. they are both strong and smooth. use a palomar knot with them.
  12. I like 7'6 rods as I fish from the shore/bank. I have caught some great river smallies on the imx pro SJR 901S light powered spinning rod, paired with a Nasci 1000 reel and 6 pound sufix siege.
  13. one thing you can do is tie a palomar knot instead. its dead easy to tie with small diameter lines
  14. I use Sufix Siege and Elite mono on all my rigs it blows Trilene out of the water. Although I used trilene for pretty much all of the 90s and early 2000s lol I can't go back now. the 4 pound Elite is amazing for UL work. its strong and smooth.
  15. mine is the Loomis IMX Pro SJR901 S I use it for everything small. its 7'6 light powered and its awesome
  16. I would look at the Loomis GCX lite rods. I have the Loomis Trout Series Rod TSR791 and its amazing but they are no longer made. The GCX lite rods replaced them, but I have heard great things. Loomis has always made fantastic Trout rods. They have always been more crisp than the St. Croix trout and panfish rods that I find way too noodley
  17. I would agree in the sense that you probably have to go to the Imx pro level to get really good sensitivity with Loomis now, whereas back in the 90s and early 2000s you could get the GL3 level and they were really good also. That being said, the old GL2 rods that they used to have were terrible lol I never understood how they ever stayed on the market lol
  18. but I believe these rods were from the early 2000s, after the 1997 buy out. none the less If I recall they were very popular.
  19. I have the 7'6 Imx Pro SJR901S for something a little more all around, the Imx Pro SJR902s would be amazing I like the extra length
  20. that might be tough. Muskie rods have pretty big guides in baitcasting configuration. that might be an option?
  21. same I could never get over the purple..although it seems with each new model of mojos they get more and more dark.. the originals were grape juice purple lol same which is one of the reasons I love the Imx pro line of spinning rods. they have the same skeletal cork grip which I still think is one of the most comfortable ever.
  22. I may be old school but I like plain old Fuji reel seats with cork.
  23. agreed. my UL combo is a Loomis TSR 791 rod rated for 2 to 6 pound line with a Sustain 1000 reel rated for 2 to 6 pound line lol
