bait length selection
Depends on which bait. Paddle tail swimmer? 2.5 inch. Worm? 4-6 inch. Crankbait? I’ve never measured one. Etc etc

I let them go, already have some in the freezer. I love them I’m at the Knoxville Smokies AA baseball game in the middle of downtown right now and two bald eagles circled the field for half an inning

There are thousands of herons around here now, when I was a kid they were rare. People have to protect their backyard koi ponds from them 😂. Amazing how many large birds can thrive when you stop using DDT.

@Kirtley Howe , it is on old Hickory Lake on the Cumberland River. Historically, it is tough fishing.

Got too many fish to count Saturday morning, tons and tons of big male white bass. Also got some yellow bass, all 3 available black bass species (a couple on a spinnerbait that a buddy of mine at work made and gave me as a form of torture) and a yellow perch. Also saw and eagle, ospreys, and dozens of blue herons trying to eat all the fish. I got a decent photo of an eagle sitting in a sycamore, an osprey flew by and tried to fight at one point @Dwight Hottle , I’ve never seen a golden eagle in person but apparently bald eagles are larger than goldens and bald eagles are brown/black for the first 3 or so years of their life before they reach maturity and turn black with a white head I also got a video of a bird doing a crazy dance on a log

catching fish is one thing. cleaning fish, is a whole other thing.
I used to clean them all and stockpile. Even with my measly catches that’s too many fish to eat. I’ve learned that keeping 3-4 of them here and there is the way to go. Back in the day I had to give away tons of frozen fillets, the only thing that saved them from freezer burn was the old lady across the street. She would take darn near as many as I would give her, RIP miss Billie

Nice video. Are you liking the baitcaster for jerkbaits? I know you used to toss them with spinning

catching fish is one thing. cleaning fish, is a whole other thing.
I like cleaning them almost as much as catching them. My brother even got me a book about this guy that cleans the fish at the fanciest seafood restaurant in NYC. He says, in broken English, you don’t want the knife too sharp. “Cut along bones, not through bones” My buddies are always amazed that I can sit on my heels and clean fish by the river’s edge for extended periods, practice makes perfect

Long float on Sunday with a buddy in his canoe w motor. Caught some nice SMB with worms, flukes , and flies. His motor wouldn’t go into gear about 6 miles in so we had to paddle a LONG way, barely beat darkness to the point B vehicle. Saw two eagles soaring as well - New PB from Ohio 8lbs 7oz
