Spinnerbait - Swim Jig - Chatter Type Bait
I fish a bladed jig in some thick milfoil and it comes through it pretty good. I consider it a fairly weedless bait but it hooks on a log very solidly quite often. Swim jig is definitely more weedless, I always reach for it when absolutely nothing else will come through the grass. I’ve been fishing a spinner bait my whole life and I’ve barely caught anything with them. I’ve been fishing a bladed jig for maybe a year and I’ve caught a lot of nice fish. Spinnerbaits are proven fish catching lures but to me personally it’s 1,000 times easier to get a bite with a chatterbait or jig

Beginner Fly Fishing outfit
They are fun for small Brook trout streams though, aren't they?

Beginner Fly Fishing outfit
A 3 weight is no more manageable than a 5. In fact it seems the opposite to me, 3 weight is more specialized for small streams and small trout. The bigger the weight the easier they are to cast (for distance)

Beginner Fly Fishing outfit
Fly fishing doesn’t have to be expensive, that’s just what everyone wants you to believe (so they can sell you junk). Pfleuger medalist is the best beginner kit I know of, and you can catch fish on it for years after. I used mine from age 12-13 up into my early 20s. I still use cheap fly rods and They can cast just as far and accurate as anything else. Believe me I’ve compared them all side by side on practice ponds.

I have lots of swollen pregnant crank baits , I use them for gar. That way I don’t care when they bite them in half

@teethmarks, try backreel sometime when you have a nice fish on. Cool write up minus the heartbreak

Really Fun Evening
Sounds like an awesome spot, congrats on a memorable evening. Instead of adjusting drag during a fight like I used to, I either reel backwards (spinning) or push the button (baitcasting) nowadays. A few times I couldn’t loosen the drag quickly enough and they dove under the boat and broke off so I try not to fiddle with drag during a fight if I can avoid it

Strange But True Fish Tales
Another one last night..... I had to drive in-between the police boat and the fire department boat in pitch black dark and fog to get back to the ramp. Luckily my buddy had sent me this screenshot 30 minutes prior so I was expecting it. Honestly this isnt too out of the ordinary, I live next to a small airport and they crash land pretty often

How Do I 'Work' a Weightless Texas Rig
Throw it out there, set the rod down, kick back and relax. When your rod is about to get pulled out of the boat, pick it up and reel in your fish. Ok that was hyperbole but not too far off. I use clear mono that's easy to see above the water but hard to see under it. You can see the line race off to one side or the other or directly away from you most of the time when you get a bite. It literally accelerates. If you can't notice it happening, you need to watch more closely.

Spinnerbait tips
I can count on 2 fingers the amount of bass I've caught on a spinnerbait. I'm not exactly a newbie either. Some things just aren't for me

Strange But True Fish Tales
It was slightly creepy but luckily I wasn't involved with any of the awful parts. I try to stay out of bus stations and train stations. https://www.wvlt.tv/home/headlines/Body-found-in-Fort-Loudon-Lake-198389671.html

Strange But True Fish Tales
I don’t think they ever found out what happened as far as I know. He was deceased floating vertically in the river. It was about 10 feet deep and the current was moving but he wasn’t. 29 years old, they found his car in Roanoke, VA I believe and he was last seen at a bus station in downtown Knoxville
