Greetings from Grand Rapids, Michigan
I just upgraded to a 17.5’ G3 last year so I haven’t fished our bigger lakes too much. I used to just fish the tiny state land lakes around our ‘old stomping grounds’ before last year.

Go to frog?
Pad Crasher for sure! After a long winters nap, my trusty stead and I got reacquainted tonight. Still going strong after about 10 or so years (maybe longer). I’m starting to realize she’s getting worse for wear and I’ll need to order another. I’ve lost this thing several times and obviously gotten it back. I’ve caught countless 4 lb bass, and even a few pike. This frog and I have a ton of good memories and will go on to life a good life in retirement. PS: It even produced a 1.5-2 pounder tonight.

Wait a second, are you from Stanton? I graduated with a Matt Moser. Anyways, to answer your question, I live on Lake Stanton so naturally I fish that quite a bit. I also fish, Dickerson, Derby, Clifford, and Crystal.

Greetings from Grand Rapids, Michigan
Welcome Matt! I’m in Montcalm county just northeast of you. I’ve fished Wabasis twice, and I work that area almost daily so I’m familiar with the lakes around there and some of the “dock talk” that goes with them. I mainly fish in my area of Stanton. Like @Michigander said we’re getting a decent group of Michigan anglers on here.

Remember
Remember why we’re fortunate enough to fish everyday. Remember why we celebrate this day. Remember why this country is the greatest country in the world. Remember those who gave their lives so we can have everything we have. Gets a little dusty in here when I play this song.

Bedding as started in central mi
We went out tonight on our lake, 66 degrees was the temp and we were the only boat on the lake. Living on a private lake has its perks. I could hear jet skis and speed boats on the other two lakes near me. I’ll be fishing like crazy the next three days on my lake and enjoying it.

Bedding as started in central mi
I’m only 20 minutes away from Crystal lake so we can crash it. Last week I fished Sneaky lake and it was 56-58 degrees at 1 when we left. We then launched at my lake and the temps were 63-66 degrees. I think I saw some males making beds but the water is so stained on my lake you can barely see them. I’ll be out this weekend on my lake, no way I’m going on a public lake this weekend!

Jon Boat Decking Questions
I agree with @Catt go with the widest bottom you can find and afford, because if you put a raised deck it’s going to change the center of gravity which is where a wider bottom comes into play.

A day I won’t soon forget
The water has been warming, the sun was high, and a slight chop, so the expectation for a good smallmouth bite was high. We launched around nine after picking up my son’s friend. We were at the dock giving the Yamaha a little time to ‘warm up’. We were casting and I managed a 2.5-3 lb largemouth, great sign! We launch and head straight for the pot hole on the lake and began to fish. I kept throwing the blades jig I caught the largemouth on. About 10 casts in I get a pro backlash and snap goes my line and there goes my jig with about 30 feet of line. I start throwing a KVD deep diving jerkbait, first cast I get it back to the boat and there’s line on one of the hooks. “There’s no way I say”! I kid you not, it’s my line with my blades jig! I go back to fishing when I get a good strike. I bring the fish to the boat, only to see it’s a snot rocket. He hit the front treble hook, as I lift him in the boat I grab him and he slips out of my hand the line breaks, and in he goes with my jerkbait! I look down and the pike had a hook in his mouth and one in his tail so there he is floating! I grab the net and get him along with my jerkbait! Unbelievable right? It doesn’t stop there. I keep fishing the jerkbait, and I felt tension on my line and give it a good pop and SNAP! My pole snapped in half! Still under warranty so I deal with that. Still not done! We keep fishing and the only other fish was a rock bass I caught. We decided to load the boat and head to our lake. As we’re coming up to the launch my son is at the bow and grabs the dock, well he wasn’t paying attention and the head on the trolling motor hit a post on the dock and basically exploded! Thankfully the trolling motor still works and I’ll hunt for a new head. We fished our lake for a couple hours, they caught a few pan fish and three bass. So it was an interesting day, EXPENSIVE day, but we caught fish, and the boys had fun.
