our work team building exercise. building a small wooden bridge.
Engineers over designing something? Never heard of such a thing! lol My father in law was an engineer. He would crack jokes about himself and engineers in general quite a bit. He knew how he was wired.

our work team building exercise. building a small wooden bridge.
I remember doing this in high school and it was a blast. I had been taking CAD classes at the career center so I felt like I had a leg up on the others but, my bridge still didn’t hold the most weight. 😁 Would you mind posting a picture of your design? I’d like to see what an engineered design looks like.

Lund Renegade 1775 vs 1975 (18' vs 20')
If money is no object, I’d get the bigger of the two. It’s better to not have it and need it than need it and not have it. If you are even going to think of three or four I’d go with the 1975. An 1875 is going to be a tight fit with three, let alone four. The Renegade is on my short list of two for my next boat. I love the layout and the jump seats!

Am I the only one….
I’ve gave it my all short of fishing it 100% of the time I go out. My time right now is precious so I don’t dedicate 100% of my time to it. As far as the hooks go, I bought them from @A-Jay so they’re premium hooks. To be fair, I’ve only fished them during the summer top water months and on good weather days. I either don’t get a strike (which is rare) or I lose it shortly thereafter. My PB came on a frog, early October, on a windy rainy day so I’ll be trying the Plopper this fall. Other than that, it’s a total dud for me.

Who Manufacturs WHAT!?
@Eric 26 @little giant I have first hand experience with this situation. My father in law (rest his souls) was the president of a Chinese branch of an American company. Their headquarters are based in Belding, MI, had a plant in Germany, and decided to open a plant in Chico, China to better compete with pricing. He was the president of the China plant. They kept the American standards which are far superior to the Chinese standards but at a Chinese price. As time went on the Chinese stole their extrusion process and as you can assume they ended up closing the Chinese plant because they could no longer compete. So, you know where I’m going with this. There are a ton of companies fishing or not that move to China in order to be competitive pricing wise to deliver competitive pricing with the right standards we all demand but eventually the designs get stolen and pieces get replaced with low quality pieces and low standards and prices that are not competitive. So they may look the same but they are not to the quality and tolerance you’d expect from America, Japan, Germany, Sweden, etc. Someone with a micrometer prove me wrong. There’s no denying it happens everyday with every product, fishing or not.

Post a photo a day!
Coast Guard festival is happening. Only two ships were able to make the trip this year but still cool to see. I wasn’t able to get the best picture because it was so crowded. The bigger of the two is the USCGC Mackinaw which is a 240’ ice breaker and bouy tender on the Great Lakes.

That’s a bummer you couldn’t get out today. At least the weather looks favorable early next week.

Top water fact or myth.
I don’t think color is as important with top water as it is with other lures. That being said, if I open my box up to show off my top water lures, “here are my white and black lures” sound pretty boring. “Here are my California 420, Ayou, Alabama craw, Green Tiger, Hot mustard top waters.” Way more cool. As the kids say….it’s all about the drip! 🤣

Inflatable PFD Went Off By Itself
My Onyx went off once while in storage during our humid summers. I bought a rearming kit and had something backwards, it wasn’t going together right so I forced it which was a bad idea because it went off in my hands. I had to order a new rearming kit and change my skibbies! 😃

In love with the abu garcia black max, your opinions?
I think it’s a great idea! Start a new thread with a good title that grabs the attention of those looking for that info. I think there’s enough people out there that it would be a popular topic.

The delivery on the last post in my opinion didn’t help the cause. Most of the ones talking about budget reels are just getting started with baitcasters or are on a limited budget and don’t or haven’t taken the deep dive into the inner workings of the reels he referencing or the overseas markets. The budget reels like the Black Max are readily available and in stores that people frequent quite often. That’s why they’re so popular.

Well, the topic of the thread is asking about the Black Max reel and others opinions on the Black Max so naturally this thread is going to get responses from Black Max users and it seems like the opinions are overwhelmingly positive. For me personally, when I started using baitcasters I started with budget friendly ones. The first one I tried was complete junk! Then I tried the Black Max and it was great! I’m not a gambling man, I got burned on the first reel, and hit a home run on the second reel. I upgraded to a Silver Max and it was junk so I was 1 for 3. Naturally, I picked up more Black Max reels. I did eventually pick up a Pro Max and it worked great. You could say I was loyal to the Abu brand reels at one time, that was because they worked and again I’m not a gambler and at that time I didn’t have the budget to gamble on anything else. I did receive a cheap Kastking reel as a gift and it was a great reel which I now have two and still use occasionally. I wouldn’t have tried one if it weren’t for receiving one as a gift. Again, think budget minded and fear of getting a dud. Keep in mind, this was all before I found this place. I trust the opinions on here and I eventually started to add more expensive reels because of the opinions on here so that’s a factor. I’ve never understood the disdain for graphite framed reels. I hear it frequently on here. What are people doing with their reels that they’re worried about the integrity of a graphite framed reel? Are these people also only using glass rods and carrot stick rods? 😁

What to do with wet lures?
Buy a ping pong table! The wife and son wanted one. I had one growing up and I told them it’s a novelty thing. What do I know? Like a dummy, I gave in and we now have a huge lure dryer! 😂
