  1. All good choices. I also really like the new Johnny Morris Patriot from bass pro. Very comfortable rod, right at the $200 mark
  2. No it will not be a problem at all. You can spool up 20lb line if you wanted to.
  3. A medium/fast casting rod is my choice, 6'6" to 7' long. Spinning rod will also work well I just heavily prefer casting gear
  4. I wouldn't dump the spinning rod, if the bite is tough that rod might save your day. I like your first idea, leave the pitching rod behind and if need be use your MH for that purpose.
  5. First initial then my last name. Clever I know. Lol
  6. As of 2017 BPS PQ is hands down my favorite for $100 and under
  7. Spinnerbaits to me are a stained/dirty water only technique. With that being said I pretty much only throw white and chartreuse, blade combo depending on water clarity. The dirtier the water the more likely I will throw double Colorado blades opposed to willow leaf blades, as they produce more "thump". Best times to use a spinnerbait is overcast conditions with some wind. Target cover like laydowns, dock pilings, weed edges, rip rap banks, points. Adding a trailer hook with help with short strikes. As far as equipment goes I use a 7' Medium heavy/moderate fast action casting rod, a 6.4:1 gear ratio reel and 15lb fluorocarbon. 90% of the time I'm out I have a spinnerbait rod with me, they just flat out catch fish.
  8. First time I've set the hook on what I thought was a big smallmouth, ended up being a dink and he went flying past my head and landed a few feet behind me. Lol. He was ok though!
  9. Awesome! Thanks for the info. Guess I'll go for it then.
  10. It's not too bad, I've taken mine out a few times. It's very shallow in most areas so you'll definitely spend some time out of the kayak getting it over the rocks.
  11. No problem. Don't know how familiar you are with the area but right outside of Oak Harbor (heading towards Bowling Green) the river is shallow for about 15 miles. Very scenic and loaded with fish.
  12. That's funny because I've been fishing it for 10 years and never caught a largemouth. The areas that I fish are more of a creek though, tons of smallies, pike and gar
  13. Awesome, I wade in the portage river often for smallmouth
  14. I throw Booyah spinnerbaits and they hold up really well.
  15. So I have a new Abu Orra Winch sitting here, collecting dust and I'm trying to find a use for it. I don't do any deep cranking and all of my shallow cranking needs are already taken care of. I have been pondering getting into bigger swimbaits/glidebaits, is this reel a good start? Can it handle 2-4oz baits?
  16. Wind + stained/dirty water= spinnerbait for me
  17. I use a tube jig head, ran straight up the body of the tube, hook exposed. I swipe to the side while reeling down on them, spinning rod. I've never had an issue with fish coming un-pinned.
  18. Flip/frog- 65# braid Cranking- 12# flouro Jerkbait- 10# flouro Topwater- 10# mono Jig and spinnerbait- 15# copolymer That's how I'm setup
  19. I have 6 combos. Spinnerbait, jig/t-rig, jerkbait/topwater, frog, crankbait, finesse spinning. I'll take 2-3 with me, which ones is mainly dependent on the weather. I find myself taking my spinnerbait and jig rods out the most.
  20. I mainly fish stained water, I typically start off with a spinnerbait as a search bait, I'll continue using it until it stops producing. Then I'll typically start flipping or dragging the bottom
  21. Where at as in... geographical location? Where at on the lake? Anyway, NW Ohio.. laydowns..
