  1. typical 30 lb braid has and 8 lb mono diameter, so techi=nically speaking, the 8 lb leader would be closest to its max breaking point, but 8 lb test is likely too weak for a casting reel. I would stick to 12 latest. you should still be able to get around 11.5 - 11.75 lbs if tied correctly, that is plenty for open water. increase if you need too, but a the diameter gets farther from 8 lb test, the overall strength will diminish from 100% to less and less as the difference increases. sorry this is confusing but it is true.
  2. i like a uni knot as well. try 8-10 wraps. its very easy to tie. you can also save line too. Lastly, if you are having trouble, tie the knot without putting it on the lure, leave a big gap, then slide the blade through the gap and cinch. the uni is a slip knot which is why this will work. you can also switch out spinner bait without tying a new knot or weakening your braid.
  3. use 4 carrier braid or 8 carrier on spinning reel, 4 carrier is cheaper and will work fine. on casting use 8 carrier. i like line to line knots to match up with the blank to epoxy line about 12" from the reel. i also cast with the line roller closest to the rod blank. also consider that your line to line knot is small and smooth knot. you also want to use a similar diameter for each line, giving maximum strength. like 50 lb braid and 12 lb leader. replace leader at 3' or 1' longer than water visibility. I also use a longer leader in clearer water.
  4. jig frogs flip carolina texas wobble head swim jig swimbait crank bait big spinnerbait ... just to name a few
  5. i am righty but use lefty reels, i can use right handed ones but its a little bit harder.
  6. See if you can get your hands on a rod in store. if it balances well buy it, if not, don't. I personally would go with the 704, but thats my opinion. good luck
  7. I second the Daiwa Tatula CT Suggestion. I am currently in the process of upgrading away from rods that don't fit my needs well. Instead, i am getting 3 casting and 3 spinning rods.
  8. Thanks! Hopefully it works out.
  9. I currently use 4 casting setups and 3 spinning setups. I have a nice frog setup and drop shot setup. My other setups are pretty good but not great. I have a 7' M Mod casting setup that i use for most of my casting needs. I have another casting rod that is way too overpowered, then my other reel is nice but isn't working well, then i have a duplicate of my frog rod that was sent to me by accident. I don't have any mh 7' - 6'6" rod that is all purpose. I was thinking of selling off those two non ideal baitcasters, and buying a 3rd casting setup. I would then invest in 3 nice spinning setups. a 6 rod arsenal that covers all my bases. Heres what I was thinking: Drop Shot / Ned Rig 7’1” ML *** Envy Black 2500 Shimano Stradic Ci4+ FA 10 lb Green PowerPro / 6-8 lb Seaguar Invisx Swimbait / Shaky Head 7’ M Shimano Zodias (110) 3000 Shimano Stradic Ci4+ FA 15 lb Green PowerPro / 10 lb Seaguar Invisx Wacky Rig / Tube 7’ M Dobyns Sierra 3000 Shimano Stradic Ci4+ FA 20 lb Yellow PowerPro Treble Hooked Baits 7’1” M Cabela’s Tournment ZX 6.3:1 Cabela’s Arachnid 15 lb PowerPro / 10 lb Mono All Purpose 6’8” MH *** Envy Green (140) 7.3:1 Daiwa Tatula CT 30 lb Sufix 832 / 15 lb Seaguar Invisx Frog 7’3” MH *** *** Black 7.3: Daiwa Zillion TWS 50 lb Sufix 832 Sell: 7’ XH Carott Stix Wild Wild Black 7.3:1 Quantum Smoke PT 7’3” MH *** *** 1500 Cabela’s Tournament ZX 7’ M Cabela’s Tournament ZX
  10. I am looking for a rod to throw my 1/8 oz weight 3/0 light wire hook 3.8" Keitecks on. I am looking to pair the rod with a 3000 size Stradic Ci4+ FA. I think this rod would be ideal, due to the action, length, and power. It is also made out of the same material as the reel, making it a better pair. My friend also has a 45% off voucher that I may be able to join in on. This would mean I can get the $200 for $110. What do you think?
  11. ml for dropshots and open hook / light wire lures m for setting the hook harder like bigger hooks and wacky shaky stuff m for overall or if you could only get one rod
  12. already have that reel! and thanks!
  13. what are you using the rods for? what line and rod? how do you like them? looking at that reel next
  14. do you use shimano spinning reels with st croix spinning rods? i like my ci4+ fa a lot, was gonna get another one and was looking at st croix avid x and legend tournaments, but their under labeling of power scares me you have pointed me in the direction of those rods several times. i am super interested. i bought a max 3d but it was out of stock. i am looking at that max in a casting rod, and the dobyns in a spinning. will likely stick to Daiwa casting reels Shimano spinning (stradic ci4+) Some cabelas rods i already own and like (tourney zx) *** rods and other rods in the future
  15. Hey All, I am 16 and am from South Eastern PA; however my mother is from Lancaster MA (30 min from Quabbin). I will be visiting in a few weeks. I was wondering if anybody would be willing to take me out on the Quabbin. I would love that experience! Thanks, Jack
  16. I am now broke in 2 ways 1.) My new Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 3000FA got stepped on in the boat today. 2.) Repair is going to be costly As far as I can tell, it is just the handle that broke. Maybe a few other parts. The spooling of line was not even. Can I send the reel back to be repaired? Will it be too much? Its 30$ just in labor, and will be like 50$ in parts. still may be worth it though. What do you think?
  17. Got the old Quantum Smoke PT 220 $ reel for 70 + a coupon
  18. pine trees, they're xmas trees on steroids.

  21. The way you move your foot is unnatural
  22. I have a Tatula ct, arachnid and zillion tws. Should I buy an aftermarket spoil and bearings for all of them. If so, which ones
  23. It was on sale, no cable unit pulley thing, takes up a small space, lasts well with battery, and is great, only downside is the deployment and the way it is steered (imo). I mean normal by keeping your foot on the pedal and leaning your foot forward and backwards, not rotating side to side.
