  1. Could be, never noticed the tear until it slipped out
  2. I recently bought an Ego Kryptek net after using my friends Ego Slider. It worked great for pike and bass and pickerel. I recently caught a 19" pickerel that came off the lure in the net. it was also netted head first. It slipped through the net and onto the boat. Upon further inspection, the net had ripped. was this from the pickerel's teeth?
  3. By the marina and ice cream shop is a shore accessory area. the other end is all weeds. never fished it, but if you go into the ice cream shop youll see pictures. 18 lb pike caught twice in one week. Also huge trout, right by the shop. I would recommend getting that outboard fixed, or don't go too far, it can get rough
  4. This past year i have been struggling to get my hooked fish to the boat. When the fish bites, I wait a second, then set the hook with the proper technique for that lure. Most of the time a reel set with a rod lift hooks them good. When the fish are first hooked and I'm using casting gear and a bait like a spinnerbait, the fish makes a big run and they lose their energy. As you stated above, when the fish is hooked in light tissue, and the drag is tight, sometimes the fish will come off. Most of the time i use my casting reels with heavy line is in cover. If i leave the drag loose, ill lose even more fish. Ive tried hooking the fish and going to them, but it is too hard to keep pressure and move the boat. While this technique of horsing fish out isn't 100% its as close to it as it gets. When I am fishing in open water and have a big fish or and using baits that are easy to throw, I do a lap around the boat. I believe i learned this from a pro like Brandon Paliniuk, but I'm not sure which one exactly. Basically, the lap around the boat keeps the fish from jumping and also tires him out, while taking away his head shakes. If you don't do this, and guide the fishes head to different sides he is much more likely to spit the hook, because it creates a weird angle. I went from a nearly 25% hook-land ratio to up near the 90's just because of those two tricks.
  5. Sorry, i didn't mean finesse i guess, More of a jerkbait small swimbait rod, maybe a little drop shot here and there. Stuff thats a little lighter. Would help me see if i prefer that to a spinning rod. 1/4 oz drop shot weight plus a zoom finesse worm is as light as it will get
  6. I am looking to add another finesse setup to my arsenal. I currently have a 7' m spinning that is ok, but not amazing. I also have a 7'1" ml spinning that is truly amazing. I fish a lot of finesse stuff, so to me, having multiple finesse rods is justified and necessary. I was originally planning on buying another spinning rod (which i might do down the road), but then I thought of a finesse casting setup. I am most interested in a Major Craft Rod, like the ones on Tackle Warehouse between 100 and 120. there are multiple models, so I'm not sure whats best. I was also thinking of a 2016 Shimano Scorpion 71 in 7.2:1. Would be for drop shots, jerk baits and keitechs. was thinking 10 or 12 lb invisx as line.
  7. Thanks! How would you rate the sensitivity of your rod? I was thinking of using it for drop shots and other finesse casting stuff.
  8. it will work, but not for long. trade that in and get a walmart battery for under 100$
  9. What do you think of this rod to throw Finesse 3.8" keitechs with a 1/8oz weight. Paired with a 16 scorpion 71 and light flouro
  10. Sounds like a good idea! Are those teflon bunk covers from bass pro expensive? And pictures would be great if you don't mind
  11. I have been fishing a 3.8" Keitech Swing Impact Fat about 25% of the time this year. I am considering a rod/reel specifically dedicated to throwing theses baits. I typically use a light wire 3/0 hook, either an Owner Twistlock Light, or a Gamakatsu EWG. I like the lighter hook because the baits have a better action and last longer, not to mention the hook up ratio. I typically use a lead 1/8oz bullet weight in front. pegged about 50% of the time. I may try some 3/16 1/8 and 1/4 oz tungsten and 3/0 light twist hooks pegged. that seems like the best to me. Any advice on how you fish keitechs is awesome! as for rods and reels, I currently use a 7' M tournament zx and a 3000 ci4 fa with 15 lb braid and an 8lb leader. I want to use that rod for wacky rigs and tubes, and the reel for drop shots until i get a 2500. I was thinking of getting a 7' Medium Zodias spinning or a 7' medium Duckett micro magic. and getting a 2500 and switching that reel with my 300 on the other rod. I like how the zodiac and ci4 are made of the same material, making it a great combo. the duckett is a sensitive rod and is only 100$ i am scared of the micro guides because it isn't the pro. no line to line knots then. My other thought was a 2016 Shimano Scorpion 71 in a 7.2:1 or 6.2:1 or a Shimano Curado 71. I was thinking of the Major Craft Nanoace 7' ML. Would use 12lb seaguar infix as my line of choice. what do you think?
  12. Great! Looking to get a small shimano for creek fishing. will be paired with a 2.6 ounce st croix
  13. i like the kind on the cabbalas tournament zx, you can keep texas rigged baits rigged and secured and treble hooks too. it is not in the way too!
  14. so can i put 8lb braid on a 1500 size shimano with electrical tape backing?
  15. I have a cabbalas arachnid that is really hard to backlash. that is why i put 15lb power pro on it. it was extra line and i was on a trip and happened to need new line on a reel. i spooled it up and caught one on my first test cast before a tournament. pros cast distance sensitivitely long lasting floats thin
  16. you will not be disappointed with either one
  17. I have been doing a lot of creek fishing lately. Mostly in a small stream that is only 10 yards wide at most. It does get to about 6' deep in a few holes. It is a world class trout stream, but I aim for mostly smallmouth bass. I typically use a small gold inline spinner to catch 5" smallies. there are a few big ones up to a pound occasionally. i have also seen 2 over 3 pounds. I do enjoy catching trout the most, but they are so hard to catch. I currently use a 7'1" ML NV Black and a 3000 size ci4 with 15lb braid and 6lb leader. I find the rod too heavy powered and too long for this creek. I was thinking of investing in a St Croix Rod and reel just for creek fishing. Was just looking on Cabelas.com and they have a 2 piece 6' ul rod that weighs 2.6 ounces. That is crazy light! What reel should i pair the rod with? If that rod is not good, what st croix should i get? Was considering a 1500 size ci4, but it is very expensive, and for a reel i won't use everyday, id hate to waste my money, although i don't think buying a ci4 is a waste of money. Any advice is appreciated.
  18. I recently underwent a change in the way I store my tackle. I used to store ALL my lures in 5 Plano 3600 size boxes. One of the boxes was not a Plano (Hi Seas I think) and was a little bit smaller. It came in a lure kit that I got as a gift. That box works great for jerk baits. I like it because it is very thin and the latches work well. The compartments are ideal, allowing me to store my jerkbaits in a very neat fashion. I stored all my soft plastics in Ziploc bags. That method was very organized, but I had to go through 6 bags just to get a single bait out. That system was not time efficient. Generally, I like to use the best equipment I can afford. With the expensive cost of buying tackle, I knew that I wanted a really effective way to not only organize my tackle, but to protect it as well. For terminal tackle, I chose the 3700 size Bass Mafia Coffin. The box retails for 30$, and is completely waterproof and crushproof. It also has 48 sections and comes with 48 dividers previously installed. That is why i chose this box. It firs all my hooks and weights perfectly. For Spinnerbaits, I chose the Plano Hydroflo Hanging Bait box. The holes allow air flow, making it harder for baits to rust. I usually keep this box out because it is bulky. The air flow is a must because it will be expose to moisture. It allows me to store ally spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. For the rest of my tackle, I chose Flambeau WP5005 boxes. That is a waterproof, rustproof 3700 size box. I has a unique divider layout, but can also be made into 12 equal compartments as well. I use one for jigs, shallow cranks, random hardbaits/deep cranks, and one for my day box when pond fishing. As for soft plastics, I use a double-deep open-core Plan0 3731 or 3771 (not sure). it is a 3700 size box. I have 4 of those. one is for worm baits, craw baits, baitfish, and creature baits. I may add a few3700 plano slim in open cores in the future to store specific baits. Like finesse worms for example. Tips: Use desiccants (water absorbers) in your box to prevent rust use air-flow type boxes when fishing in the rain or in humid conditions. Use waterproof boxes with hardbaits and jigs. let your baits dry before putting them back in the box use shelf carpet to prevent hooks from changing compartments don't keep soft plastics on hooks I hope this helps you in your search for a better tackle system. Most of this advice came from others along the way. I thought it would be a good idea to consolidate all the advice and share them with you guys. After all, this is what Bassreasource is all about! While I only have a small amount of tackle, this system can be applied to anglers with a lot more or a lot less tackle. If you only have a few baits, maybe one soft plastic box and one tackle tray would work for you. If you have a lot more, consider having a box for each lure (swim jigs). and storing your plastics in one of the boxes listed. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions.
  19. Thanks for the info guys! I am in PA, but fish in MA most of the time. i have no outboard, only a tm.
  20. I help my neighbors with their lawn, work for a landscaping company, and shovel snow. Making apps professionally brings the big bucks.
  21. occasionally with my transom trolling motor
  22. I am beginning to fish more and more, especially in harsh conditions. I was thinking of maybe investing in a nice pair of bibs. Looking at the Simms Challenger in a medium. I am 5'8" With a 32 waist. I would hope to use theses in cold and wet weather. Could i use them for skiing? Also what shoes should I wear? What about gloves? Any other advice or info would greatly be appreciated!
  23. I have been experiencing issues taking my 14' boat with a roller guide type trailer out of the water. I want a way to not get wet. I use mostly gradual boat ramps. Couldn't find much online. Thanks
  24. With the rebate its 16 bags for free
