  1. Last year, I spent a lot of time fishing the lake below. The left side has a lot of lilly pads and is shallow and sandy. I would fish a topwater bait there in the morning. I may catch one or two and get three bites. after the pleasure boaters showed up, I would go home and eat breakfast. I'd come back later in the day. That is when id fish the docks. My friend's house is on the upper left corner of the map. I fish with him every time I fish on this lake. When I say catching fish, I mean our combined catches. We usually stuck to three techniques, mostly fishing the docks at the bottom part of the lake. We used 1/4 oz sexy shad swim jigs, 3.8" keitechs, and wacky rigged purple senkos. Although we did not catch a ton, we caught size. Or combined all time best 5 are over 30 pounds. For a pa lake thats really good. of the 25 fish we caught off docks here, 20 were over 2 pounds and 15 over 3 and 10 over 4. We spend 2-3 minutes on a dock, then keep moving. Last fish of 2016 came off a metal dock on the upper part. it was 6 pounds. Basically, we have a lot of luck catching big fish on this one lake, but have struggled to catch fish consistently. I am planning to use skipping jigs more, and fish the other docks. Anyone have suggestions?
  2. Should I try to find them in person, or leave a note with contact info?
  3. I am 16, that was during the summer that I had a lot of time to fish. I would get dropped off when my parents went to work or bike there.
  4. Thanks! thats what I was looking for. I am still gonna go to that quarry, just not everyday.
  5. You are trying to argue about something that is barely relevant to this topic...
  6. When trying to avoid pleasure boaters, stick to the mornings and the last couple minutes of the day. Try anchoring or fishing a pond from the bank...
  7. There are other anglers that I take too. We had easily 50 bass a day each. thats a 150 bass a day in a small quarry for a long time. We don't catch much when we do the same exact thing...
  8. 5-10 acres, limited access, also i fished it 12 hours a day 6 days a week four 3 months straight.
  9. can you price match the other ones?
  10. Dobyns Champion Cranking from TW for 199 $ https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-DOBROD.html?from=basres
  11. Get the Cabela's Tournament ZX from Cabala's for 70 $. It is on sale from a normal 100 $. I would pay 150$ for that rod.
  12. I love my Under Armor Fish UV shirts so much that I will wear up 300 spa at once. Even in 90* heat!
  13. Thanks for all the help! I am going to get the spinning setup. I will also invest in some more finesse baits too!
  14. Last year, I developed several skills at fishing. This year, I want to develop more skills at different baits. I have almost no confidence in fishing g bottom baits like jigs, texas rigs, and shakes heads. I guess that's because most of my ponds and lake are not hard bottom ones. Instead they have weedy bottoms that are a pain to me. Also, I feel like the drop shot is an easier meal than a lure on the bottom. That is why I usually switch over to a drop shot. Besides leaving everything but bottom baits at home, what are your suggestions? also how to set the hook?
  15. Im trying to sell my friend that rod. Also, it is on sale in the flea market!
  16. Ok so last year I really only fished 3 spots, a private quarry that was loaded until I pressured all the fish away, a neighborhood pond that was fire for one month in the middle of the summer then trash the rest of the year, and a public pond the was fire until they built a park next to it and now it's pressured like crazy. This lack of good fishing has brought me to Google Maps. I have written down about 300 ponds within 30 minutes of me. I organized them into groups so that I can hop a couple in one outing. Now I need to find out how to get access to these spots. I am going to try a new spot each time to find the juice spots and eliminate non fire ponds. Are all the water bodies in blue writing on Apple Maps Public? Also, if i try neighborhood ponds with lots of house nearby, am I more or less likely to get kicked out? How do I get access to these places. I am strictly catch and release unless I'm told to keep fish for the property owners. Lastly, I plan to offer maintenance in order to fish walking-distance ponds. Is that a good idea? Thanks!
  17. Thanks you too. Looking back, I never made any terrible purchases that couldn't be undone. Also, I did just fine with what I had, no reason I can't do it again. Also, being on a limited budget and spending $1000 at once on rods isn't very smart.
  18. I agree, maybe adding a setup a year is more of a reasonable rate. My current arsenal works fine. I wish I had the opportunity to stick with a 7' mf spinning rod, 7' mf caster, 7' mhmf caster, and a 7'6 h caster, all at a high quality. Seems like that would be most practical. I think my rods will be fine. I can always go back to casting and reeling a senko all day long if need be
  19. Thanks! Cabala's has the Dream for 10$ less and I have gift cards there too. Too bad I have to fix my boat, otherwise id invest in this rod ASAP
  20. Sorry for causing you to become upset. It is very cold in my area and I am unable to fish. That is why I take this break period to figure out these things so that I don't need to when the time comes that I can actually fish. I am not concerned with "having the coolest things", but I am concerned with getting them most out of my money. I have a limited budget. I can't afford to buy a bad product and lose a lot of money on it. This is especially important when purchasing expensive things such as rods and reels. In hindsight, I should have been less aggressive in trying to find an answer. A few posts about rod and reel companies and one about my situation would be ok, but now it has become excessive. I understand your frustration, as I am not the only one trying to learn. I posted many of my rods and reels for sale because I wanted to focus on 4-5 nicer setups than to just have 10 that are good. I recently changed my mind because I would lose too much money, contradicting what I said earlier. The one rod that is still for sale was a duplicate that I can live without. It would help me buy other gear that is for other techniques. I want to thank everyone for expressing their opinions. Even though it is my decision what I do with my life and money, having the advice of people that really know what they are doing is a great resource for me to have. Thanks! This was exactly what I was looking for. I have heard nothing but great things about the ALX company. The lifetime warranty, made in the USA, and components of the rod look outstanding. I am also trying to decide whether or not to go with the Ikos or Solo.
  21. I've been looking into the 7' M casting version of both the Ikos and Zolo rods. Already read previous forum threads, but thought I'd get an updated one. Thanks
  22. Any updates? Looking to get into nicer rods. had my eye on the ***, Ikos and Yolo for a while now. Thanks
  23. Thats what i was thinking the ALX would be for, or my 7' M MOD
  24. All the water around me is frozen, but not enough to ice fish, which I don't do anyway
