Don't ruin your outboard
Do you think the EPA will listen, or just go with the highest bidder, choke, I mean lobbyist when it comes to ethanol? I just posted the following comment to the website posted: Have any studies been made on the long-term effects of higher content Ethanol fuels on fuel systems? I have read plenty of studies regarding fuel efficiency on cars, but how about the effects on other engines, such as lawn equipment, outboard boat motors, and recreational vehicles. Some people I know have experienced problems with the fuel system since Ethanol dissolves certain components, which can lead to long-term damage to the engine. Secondly, many recreational vehicle and boaters use their engines in high humidity environments or store their vehicles for a long time, between each use, does Ethanol adversely effect the engine's fuel system in any way due to water solubility in the fuel? If so are efficiencies gained through use of Ethanol lost to extra cost burden such as fuel additives, maintenance, or repair to engines. I bet since I am not from a government agency they won't listen. My comment tracking number is 80989f1d

Avoid Vector battery chargers
hmmmm, awwww, Dude! I have a Vector that is going on 6 years and the fan still buzzes but spins and I abuse the darn thing (Water, Chlorine Spilled on it, high humidity environment, drops). My buddy has 2 of them that he treats equally as bad and his are going on over 3 years no problem. Maybe the older ones are better?

Bass Boat Crash
Lucky the guy is alive, life vest and kill switches are life savers ! Negative trimming, less speed, and a steeper approach angle to wake would have helped prevent the disaster.

Lake Okeechobee
For the most part you're correct. however they are pulse pumping out of the lake and have been for the past month, this along with the drought causes the low water. I am one of the few that don't complain the low water is beneficial to health of the lake and when the water returns, like it always does, we will continue to have one of the best fishery's in the country. If the lake wasn't at the low level when hurricane Fay dumped 4 feet of water all over the state the lakes grass and flats would have been destroyed. I love the fishing when the lakes low, however I'm one of the handful of people who know the lake well enough to navigate it without destroying my lower unit, like mentioned above if you dont know the lake stay in the rim ditch. Fishing has been Off The Charts! You can always be one of those that is not in the handful of people and buy an AIRBOAT!

FL guide?
Central Florida, specifically Orlando is chuck full of lakes, but if you don't mind a short trip call George as your Stick Marsh, Farm Pond, or Ansin Garcia guide to go to. Disney Lakes are PACKED! Years ago I use to fish them before a guide service on the lake was started. The canals and lakes in and around Disney property is bass heaven.

Small Bass Torture?
Lately, I have catching plenty of dinks, but it my heart sinks after seeing my hooks end up somewhere other than the outer edge of the mouth. For example, I was using a Skitter Pop and I caught 5/6 of about 20 total fish that day that ended up getting hooked in the eye and not just the flesh around the eye. I also sometimes drive a single hooks, like an EWG or Straight Shank, through the roof mouth into the eye socket, draining it from behind . Lastly, last night I went out Spro fishing and caught 8 bass 2 of them ended up getting the thick hooks entangled in the gill rakers and bleeding pretty badly. I have not been keeping track of it like a scientist, but I figure 10 to 20% of all "smaller" Bass I catch have been injured by the hook in some way. Most of the fish that get foul hooked smaller than 15", but has anyone noticed that dinks are more prone to being hurt by hooks?

Small Pond - Pure Florida strain -Lots of small ones, a few BIG ones - what to use?
As far as catching the Berthas in your pond, I would have to agree with BassnBlvd, a nice large Bluegill, clip his dorsal a bit and a pectoral fin to make him struggle and look like easy pickings for Bertha. I hate to say it, but its true "big" live bait catches more big Florida bass, I have caught my share of big ones, but I am an all artificial all the time type guy. My neighbor, an expert tree catcher, has many more trophy bass in his memory banks than I do cause of his methodical use of live bait,.......cheater! That being said a big swimbait, think Matt Lures, would be a close second. The poster who mentioned a 5" Senko must live up north cause, I catch DINKS with 5" down here. I would ask the management company about stocking Shiners in addition to the Shad. Also, I am not sure if you do, but fish feeders will help fatten up your bass by keeping the forage fat and happy, as well as removing smaller bass for less competition, and fertilzing your waters to keep the food chain at its best. Also, make sure you don't have catfish in there.

Who prefers round casting reels to low profile?
I have an Abu Record for snook and tarpon, a Japanese Calcutta 100 that is absolutely smooth that I use for T-rigging, and a Calcutta 200GTB for swimbaits. I think round reels still have a spot in the Bass world for those who like them and don't mind the extra weight.

Very believable if you fish the water control structures while they are pumping or the water gets very low.

My new favorite Spinning Line!
I have been using McCoy's Mean Green for over 5 months now exclusively in my spinning reels......and I LOVE IT. Don't have to had any KVD to keep it from coiling/limp, resist abrasion really well, and even the tree catchers that use my spinning outfits can't seem to screw it up. Run out and get'ya some you'll love it. Disclaimer: I am not sponsored by McCoy and have tried a Plethora of other lines on my spinners!

All Star Platinum vs. Shimano Crucial
I have a Platinum flipping rod and like it, but I also like the Crucials. I would go with the one that has the better warranty. I have never dealt with a return on an All Star, but I can tell you Shimano's warranty department is GREAT!

Shimano: I Have Seen the Light
Welcome to the Shimano club! Don't anyone fool you, if they have not fished competitor's reels side by side with the same category Shimano over at least a year of hard fishing and they say this Quantum, Ardent, Pflueger, Bass Pro Shops, Abu Garcia, US Reel, etc. is better or equal to Shimano, than they are either sponsored, had an outlier Shimano, or are blinded by ***! The only thing that equal or BEAT Shimano's are Daiwa in some respects. Also, I would put some Japanese domestic market Abu's in the mix, but overall Abu's are third fiddle to Shimano and Daiwa. Just my humble opinion thou!

Carpet or Paint?
Carpet is for those who don't know how to apply Tuff Coat correctly ! It's true that carpet keeps the sound down better, but I used Tuff Coat to paint the inside of my 14' jon boat in a sand color and love it! Being in the South Florida it can get hot, but I have had ZERO issues with it getting hot, since I painted the inside a light color. Also since my boat is not loaded down with carpet or plywood then it makes it a breeze to pull over embankments and thick weeds. Also, when it comes time to wash it down I just brush and rinse. The negative is that it chips in high traffic areas, but just recoat it every 3 years.

Bass & Aquariums
I use to work as an importer/operations manager for a tropical fish importer in Miami. I can say that you can keep really big fish in small tanks for a long time, we had 3-4lb. butterfly peacocks that were in a tank no longer than 3 ft. long and 18 inches deep. We also had a world class water filtration system that circulated over 200K gallons throughout the facility. It was all automated to keep the PH and water temperature in check. Also all the water ran through a massive array of UV lights and/or ionizers. The fish flourished while in holding tanks, we actually grew a butterfly peacock up to about 7/8lbs from about a 4 lber over about 3 years.
