  1. A store manager who knows I love rye offered me this for a very reasonable price. Expensive, but very reasonable compared to secondary market prices. I couldn't pass on it. I've had the 17yr and 19yr as single pours in bars and he knew I have been looking for a bottle. It's just an outstanding rye. Sweet and spicy with cinnamon, vanilla and cherry. It's a little bit low on proof at 95 but that makes it more drinkable. It's one of those bottles that is going to empty quickly and then I'm going to be angry with myself for drinking it so fast.
  2. @Glenn needs to update the "like" button with a "JEALOUS" emoji.
  3. We have significant issues with invasive Zebra mussels. They must have good reflexes because Ive had a few clamp down on my bottom baits. Ours are much, much smaller however. I've pulled a few off the bottom that were only an inch or two across. Even that small you still can't shake them off your Trick Worm. I'm impressed that you did battle with one that size. @Kayak Koz already nailed the dad-joke so I'll just move on now.
  4. The amount of expert advice and experience Tom shared with us on nearly a daily basis is immeasurable. I can't begin to guess how many fishermen he educated and encouraged, including me. He was an outstanding teacher and he will live on with all of us that learned from him. Rest in peace, sir.
  5. Sorry to jump off topic, but I don't want you to miss out. I have a gas station 8 minutes from my home. Also three of my regular lakes have ethanol-free at the dock. Here's a good list if you want to look for it: https://www.pure-gas.org/
  6. I just realized that I've been lying my entire life. When someone has asked me my favorite color I've always said "blue". That's a lie. My favorite color is "color case hardened". Fantastic lever gun.
  7. Man, everyone I know that has switched claims they are glad they did. But what are you going to say if you let your best girl get away? I realize I'm an odd one out, but I have an iPhone SE. No, it's not an antique. Mine's only two years old. I got it because the new SEs are designed for people like me. They are shock resistant, water resistant, and come with Gorilla glass. The problem I'm having is my screen is smaller than any other current iPhone. When I'm trying to type a comment on FB I can no longer see what I'm typing until I post the comment. Same with some of my text messages. Most of my display settings have changed and I no longer have any choice in many of the settings. They have removed a significant amount of control over how your phone looks and acts. Even the timer! They changed the stupid timer and I can no longer use it for my workouts like I have for years. It's a ton of small things that they have taken over that I can't use or change to my liking. There is a huge number of complaints so maybe they will fix some things, but otherwise I'm going to have to throw my sucker in the mud.
  8. I with you. I have been annoyed a few times at changes with updates, but usually the updates are either nothing noticable or, rarely, helpful. This is a completely different ballgame. They have removed so many user controls and made changes that leave the customer zero options. The more I use it the more amazed I am at how much has changed and for the worse. I'm feeling like I will be moving to an Android.
  9. Math ruins EVERYTHING!
  10. Lake of the Ozarks. Not sure exactly where. Summer of 1978 or '79. Dad and I waded waayyy out from shore on a point, stepping and hopping from one large boulder to the next in water that was over my knees but under dad's. We reached a place where the boulders ended and the water dropped deeper and started casting over the drop. Dad caught a couple on his beloved floating Rapala. He could only afford two and he left the other one in the truck. He stored BOTH of them in their original packages when they weren't tied on. Those were the only lures that stayed in their original packages. I was struggling to get bites with a pre-rigged "swimming worm". I remember it was yellow with black spots. I was only 8 or 9 years old so my casting wasn't great either. Dad caught a few and then reeled in his lure. He kept fingernail clippers on a shoestring around his neck to make lure changes easier while standing in the water. He clipped that floating Rapala off his line and I couldn't figure why he would take it off when he was catching! Then he told me to reel in. He clipped off my polka-dot swimming worm and tied his favorite Rapala on my line. I was excited and terrified at the same time, praying that I wouldn't lose dad's favorite lure. I started throwing over the ledge with him coaching me. I caught a short one pretty quick and kept going. Two fish later I saw the biggest splash of my young life when a five and a half LM hit that Rapala. Dad yelled gibberish and whooped as I started the fight. It ran and I let too much slack in the line. That big bass came completely out of the water, twisting back and forth. When I see it in my mind it's always slow motion and I felt like I was one of those guys with the southern drawl who fish on TV for a living. I thought I'd messed up but that fish stayed on and I kept fighting. I got it all the way to dad and he lipped it while I was still fighting and the fish was swimming, making it look as easy as picking your shoe up off the floor. Dad weighed that LM with an old spring scale that usually just laid at the bottom of his tacklebox, and he was smiling the entire time. Dad was proud, which just about made my heart explode. I'm not much for pining away about the past or wishing for any do-overs. I know how blessed I am. But, given the chance for one trip in a time machine to fish? I figure this would be the day. Not the biggest bass I've ever caught, but it was the best one.
  11. I opened this link and immediately felt like those gloves were making some kind of new, obscene gesture at me. I'm deciding whether or not to be offended. Please stand by.
  12. No one wants to spend money on something they rarely use, but you can get a meter from Amazon on sale for next to nothing, and it will work for your TM batteries, car batteries, household receptacles, even going through those "are these AA batteries still good?" box in the closet. It can even help you find a short in your boat trailer lights. A tester light is great for "any" amount of charge, but you want to know if you have 12.1 or 12.6 before you hit the water. That's a make or break your day difference. I use my meter frequently so I have a name brand, but this one from Amazon gets good reviews: https://www.amazon.com/AstroAI-Multimeter-Voltmeter-Resistance-Continuity/dp/B0CLV8R7QF/ref=sr_1_6?crid=102BA61KDTKMD&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.BFQ75Xh-9VsMNCgA75NChJ4EvBn03HSeasFjjzBAbBIzhgk78K5bFg24Cvnlt3mtUfKrd-91bOcklO5P_E21uJihtdmg-O0I4tDWfvIbKF4Dcd4OrS_YIP47OWngrUy81pANJ_gb-9X_5hmOb4ylfLD8WP_NYbFqfrYB7D2wBnK71Mk5sjH40EURHc5HG4istGCkpVvRa_s3QRBq2uDZkAMQte_otN3s9FOvpiLj6TQorVWjJyFj6Aw3oFqFKQL3g0yLGxy4aZaiJpPApRldTRaXNThGzO-eWpd6jLjYya0.XCMhRfLyNYQB_Q2qyvmFSrojTdd-FAzx1L0Q3mUzWVY&dib_tag=se&keywords=voltage%2Bmeter&qid=1764513845&sprefix=voltage%2Bmeter%2Caps%2C161&sr=8-6&th=1
  13. We stopped at a grocery store (on a college campus no less) JUST for a loaf of bread and found this in the glass case. It was priced right at MSRP. We are fans of everything Heaven Hill so it was a no-brainer. Turned out to be a great buy. Caramel, dried fruit, marshmallow creme with just the right amount of peppery spice.
  14. This seems fake, but I'm going boat shopping just in case...
  15. Absolutely! Thank you for showing her how "gentlemen" like us USED to do it.
  16. They don't give me a headache, but I will say that Landshark is an Anheuser-Busch product and we all know that "Budweiser" is a Native American word that means, "Why is my head trying to explode?". Gesundheit
  17. One of my favorite beers to have with pizza. I love ambers and porters but they are very filling. If I drink Landshark I can fit more pizza in my belly!
  18. That's a great pic! What's your plan? Hoppe's? Kroil? I always used mercury but I was a Hazmat tech and member of a bomb squad so I could get it legally and dispose of it legally. I've read vinegar and peroxide will do it but I've not tried it.
  19. A bourbon ginger with my wife’s Halloween eyeball ice cubes.
  20. Yet another amazingly blessed day on the water. Lost count of the LM. Gave up on the striper when I caught three in a row over 7lbs. They were wearing me out. It takes so long to land one that size. Left them and went back after the LM. The last pic is a girl I named "lipstick".
