  1. Far less sophisticated 'tools' have been banned, for example - the A-rig.
  2. Meh, it was less than 1 pound... Ive gotten good at taking fish pics haha. Caught him on a Yamamoto Kut Tail worm in Plum color on a shakey head. My favorite clear water finesse bait.
  3. The Hudd 68 Special is a good choice. The new Storm Glide looks like a good option as a "budget" swimbait. Shine Glides are also a good option in that budget. Just remember with the sinking baits, if for some reason you cast them off... they sink.
  4. -Bird stealing an original Deps 250 off the back of the boat ~$200 -Casting off a custom painted Hinkle Shad later in the week ~$220 -Building a grate-like lure retriever to drag the bottom and recover said Hinkle Shad (unsuccessfully) ~$30 -Breaking a rod casting a 3/8 oz wobble head $80 -Finding a stud on a dirt road leading to a flat unrepairable tire ~$200 -Finally getting the skunk off after 5 completely unsuccessful outings... ...Well if the above is any indicator, it didn't come without paying a price... This last couple of weeks has not gone in my favor. I should have winterized the boat two weeks ago and started cleaning reels.
  5. This little guy wanted a crappie!
  6. It is much more comfortable to use a slower gear ratio reel with deeper diving crankbaits (>6'). Its quite a workout to do it with high gear ratio reels. For squarebills and shallow diver I use a 8.1.
  7. 20 HP is too small except for no wake lakes or lakes <3-400 acres. I believe you will regret the 20 HP motor. You can get a whole lot of boat used. Just got to put in a little time and effort in making sure it checks out and be willing to pass at the slightest of red flags.
  8. I wish it was a $150 swimbait ?
  9. Cast bet seine big treble hook kidding of course. I think a big predator fish imitating glide bait may have done the trick. No way to know.
  10. I am not sure. I don’t know my birds well. There were a few of them on the lake and I thought they were ducks at first because they were floating around on the surface and occasionally diving under not to be seen again. This lake had recently been stocked with trout so I can only guess this guy thought he had found an easy one.
  11. I had an original custom painted DEPS 250 sitting on the back deck of my boat today when a bird swept in, landed on my back deck and picked it up and flew off and then proceeded to drop it in the middle of the lake about 100 yards away. I went over where it was dropped and searched and netted for about a half hour and then gave up. I guess it looked realistic. I still can’t believe it.
  12. Has anyone code up with a clever way to store your drop shot setup in the rod locker? I like to put mine in the locker with the baits on and ready to fish, but with a drop shot, it’s just a big mess.
  13. The V18 will be leaps and bounds more stable with multiple people and in worse conditions. I suggest you take the kids with you and have them get in both and observe them to see how safe you feel they are in each boat. That may give you the sense that you need about how to proceed. If you have a chance, get on the water in both. Also, what are your fishing goals? What kind of waters (size of body and conditions) are you planning on fishing? I'd also suggest the option that makes this go the other way
  14. Glad you're still with us! You will have better luck posting this in the Classifieds section. Or maybe a friendly mod will just move it for you. Good luck with the sale.
  15. If anyone’s interested there is a Dobyns Champion 705CB for sale on FB marketplace in Lee’s Summit for $50. I am trying to buy it but the guy wants it picked up today and I’m up in Omaha so won’t work out for me. If one of you is interested, I can give you the info and you can buy it in my place if he still has it. Disappointed in missing out. It’s a crazy deal.
  16. I would’ve bought one, mostly just due to the hype if it wasn’t such a long wait. Probably won’t end up getting one.
  17. Agree with above. While the hook design does a good job with the initial penetration, it also cuts a hole that is much bigger than a traditional “round point” hook. This is true not only for soft plastics but also in fish, resulting in the hook coming out easier.
  18. Whatever you need to have spotlock and a pedal that gives you feedback.
  19. What size plopper? I have lost some of the big ones because the hooks tore a big hole in the mouth.
  20. Tatula Elite Skipping rod. Under your budget, but a darned good rod. I have both the 6’9” and the 7’1” and both are excellent. The 7’1” is a little easier to skip because it loads up different because of the length, but the 6’9” is better in right quarters.
  21. Unfortunately not. Gotta put that knowledge to use!
  22. Found out today I passed! Whew, what a relief! Celebrating by going fishing on Friday.
  23. My dad has been a sub contractor and had the same estwing his whole career. That thing still rotates perfectly when you toss it up.
  24. Thoughts and prayers with you and your family. Give’er hell!
  25. Lots of rocks in my experience in MO. Try the braid, if you like it and have abrasion issues you can also add a leader.
