gloom and doom...end of times prepping
Just had a discussion on this with a local group. The Kansas City area is declaring shelter in place on tuesday.. According to the posted orders, the parks will remain open and outdoor activities are still allowed, with social distancing. There are no stipulations against fishing. I guess we will find out, where they draw the line.

New to Jerkbaits
A like a 6ft 6in to 6ft 10in medium power fast action casting rod. Unfortunately every brand is a little different. To me a fast taper with a soft tip gives the best action and helps keep the fish hooked. if I am throwing a smaller jerkbait, like a duo realis rozante 77, I will switch to a spinning rod with the same action. overall I feel the casting rod is better balanced for jerkbaits. i ususally use 10 to 12 lb copoly on the casting rod and 8 pound copoly on the spinning rod

Looking to expand jerkbaits
love those rozante's for smallies. the duo realis 110 sp is great for largemouth. the hooks that come with that bait are sticky sharp. I have lost very few fish with that bait.

Waypoint Website
I don't use a website. If I am in the boat, I just mark it on my graph. At home I have the lakemaster contour elite program. It has the same maps as my graphs. I can mark a place on the map. Then download it to my graph.

Finesse Line Question
^^^ this. I have used braid to leader and still see no advantage over straight mono or fluorocarbon. Straight fluorocarbon or mono has more sensitivity on a slack to semi slack line than any braid. Texas rig, jigs, and weightless palstics all fit into this category if you are fishing on a tight line, braid is more senstive.. ( dropshot is one technique that comes to mind).

Anyone like a rod after bite more than what came before?
^^^^this. I always use equipment that allows me to land and release bass quickly. to me the actual fight is secondary to getting it to bite and hooking the fish.

Do you use fish attractant?
I have tried several different attractants. I honestly did not see a difference when I did or did not use it. it usually washes off pretty quick. it seems to catch more fishermen than fish. Unlike catfish, bass feed from sight or vibration. in my opinion a salt impregnated bait works better than any attractant.

Tungsten - Sourcing
I have bought from here. http://www.omfishingsinkers.com/ It is direct from China. May be closed at the moment from corona virus. Takes a while to deliver your order during good times. Their sinkers are good. Hooks are garbage.

The Elephant in the Room...Coronavirus!!!
Toilet paper hoarding, is the one tihng about the corona virus panic that I have yet to understand. Of all the things people need to survive a catastrophe, why toilet paper? I recall a few years back when there was a supposed ammo shortage and everyone was buying up all of the 22 long rifle ammo. It wasn`t long before it started showing up for sale online at ridiculous prices. Waiting to see how long it takes before toilet paper starts selling online by the roll for ridiculous prices.

What are some fresh water fish you shouldn't lip?
I don't lip any toothy critter. After 2 years ago I am very careful how I lip flathead catfish. Up until this point I have caught numerous catfish without incident I caught a 15 pounder on a bass outing. My neighbor likes catfish ,so I threw it in the live well. When I went to remove it from the well, I instinctively lipped him. With my thumb in his mouth. He clamped down and started thrashing. It shredded the skin and dislocated my thumb. I now have a lot more respect for catfish

Which dobyns fury?
Depends on what you are throwing. I have both. The 734 gets a lot more use. The 735 is a nice rod for pitching into cover. A little heavy for casting in my opinion. The 734 is a good rod for most anything else except finesse baits.

What is the most versatile lb line?
Your going to get endless answers here that will be based on personal preferences. Everyone has a different opinion. I don't necessarily pick line for pound rating . More often I choose by line diameter. Every brand and style has a little different diameter of line. They also rate line pound test differently. For the most versatile all around line for a baitcaster I would choose a .013 to .014 inch diameter mono or copoly. Depending on brand and line type that will range from 10 pound test to 15 pound test.

Flush Mount or Gimbal Mount
I have had both. If I had to store a boat outside in winter I would use gimbal mount, so I could remove them. My current boat has bow and console flush mount. I prefer this because it is clean and out of the way. I also store my boat inside. Plus our winters are not as harsh as yours.

What’s your favorite brand rod? Megabass, shimano, st croix, G.loomis...
I have not found any brand that fits all of my fishing needs. Dobyns and St Croix fill out most of my arsenal. There are a couple Kastking speed demon pro's and Abu Garcia's in the mix.

Cable & Pin
I use this. Very easy to use, but pretty secure. Also doesn't cost much. I bought it at Cabelas. It is theft proof. I lost the key on my last one, after connecting the trailer to my truck. Took me 1/2 hour to cut it off.

No leader using braid around wood
Everyone has their own opinion. Here in Kansas I don't use braid around wood. The zebra mussels hang out on dead wood. Braid does not fare well around zebra mussels.

Fishing in "the old days"
In the 70's my grandfather had a farm in southern Iowa. it had seven ponds. 2 were old coal strip mines. My cousin and I were the only people that fished them. we caught a lot of bass on night crawlers and grasshoppers. the first artificials we used were lazy ikes, beetlespins, and pre-rigged creme worms. That is about all the local hardware store had. fishing was ridiculously easy, because there was nobody else fishing these ponds. When I started fishing public lakes it was an eye opener.

2019 Review - Which lures/presentations caught largemouth over 5lbs for you?
like usual I am late to the party. Baits that produced bass over 5 in 2019: super fluke shakyhead/ trickworm, lucky craft lightning pointer academy H20 ultimate jerkshad ol monster worm whopper plopper texas rigged christie critter H2O spinnerbait super fluke was biggest producer with 4 over 5. For 2020: Only one so far but it weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces. It is the fish in my avatar. caught it on an H2O ultimate jerkshad

Kastking Fluorokote
I gave it a shot last year. will not be using it this year. It was manageable and casted decent on a spinnng reel. The main problem I had with it was it stretches like a rubber band. I have never used a line that stretches as much as Fluorokote. As a leader I suppose it would be ok.

What pound Sunline FC Sniper should I go with?
I use both. the op asked what diameter or pound test sunline sniper to use. 12 pound sniper handles differently than 12 pound yozuri.

What pound Sunline FC Sniper should I go with?
16-18 pound sniper is about the same diameter as 12 pound yozuri

Opinions needed on boat cover/vents
Years ago I had to leave my boat outside. I went through several covers along the way. Canvas tends to be very durable, but even with the waterproofing it can condensate anywhere an object is touching it. if you have ever been camping in a canvas tent and leaned against the side in the rain, it does not take long to get wet. Vynil covers tend to be more waterproof. I am curious what Kind of bow trim switch you have. Most are waterproof.
-
Fluorocarbon what do you use?
I throw the ol monster around weed beds and riprap in summer. usually use 14 pound for that. I don't usually throw big worms around heavy wood. they tend to wrap around the cover. If I am throwing soft plastics in cover it is usually a more compact bait, like a creature or craw. 16 would be a good in between line for both. it is still smaller in diameter than most 12 pound lines and very strong.
