fishing spots without boats
my boat has been in the shop for a week. tried bank fishing the same lakes I fish with the boat. It made me realize how spoiled I have become. In a boat you just move around until you find fish. from bank you have to find accessible areas and then try to find fish in those areas. unfortunately accessible areas around here get fished to death.

Anyone seeing changes in Cabelas stores that they've been to?
might be because of the time of year ,but the fishing aisles are looking a little bare at the Kansas City Cabelas.

other hobbies?
my main hobby 10 months out of the year is fishing. when it is too cold for that, I Bowhunt for deer. fortunately with the extended seasons in northeastern Kansas I can shoot multiple deer and hunt through December and January. other than that I am always cooking something on the smoker. I also shoot my handguns.

Best type of sinker for fishing around chunk rock
these dropshot weights tend to work well. if I am throwing a jig, Football heads seem to roll out of the rocks better. arkie jigs and bullet weights tend to wedge in chunk rock

Were there any "Good ol' Days" of fishing?
I have been bass fishing since I was a teenager in the mid 70's. Catch and release was not very popular at the time. Needless to say nearly all fish we caught were under the legal limit. catch and release is much more common now. The average size bass I catch now is much better than it was back then. In my opinion the good old days are happening now.

First boat
depends on what you plan on using it for. a 14 foot v bottom is usually not as stable to walk around or stand in, compared to a flat bottom or modified v boat.

FC friend or foe?
its good to get several different opinion on flourocarbon. I went from trilene xt to flourocarbon on my baitcasters awhile back. at first I had knot problems. then i started using Zona's shark knot. since then I don't recall breaking off a the knot. the only issue I have with flourocarbon is, any kinks or nicks in the line makes it very weak. after landing a big fish I always retie. in all honesty, probably should have done this with mono also, but it is critical with flourocarbon. with others saying there is a lot of stretch in flourocarbon, I have not noticed this. Going back and forth between my bait casters with flourocarbon and spinning gear with mono. mono seems to have significantly more stretch. tried it on spinning gear, but is too stiff in my opinion. time will tell if I stay with flouro or move back to mono. At the moment I am having success with flourocarbon.

Walmart tackle?
I do shop for tackle at Walmart if I am already there. If I am going just to buy tackle, I will go to Cabelas or Bass Pro. the service and selection is usually much better and the prices are not that much different.

Mercury high voltage alarm
I have a 2017 mercury pro xs 115 4 stroke on my 17.5 ft ranger. it runs right at 5950 rpm at wot. when I get the motor to 5900 RPM the warning buzzer occasionally goes off. it has water pressure, and the motor is rated for 6300 rpm. Cabelas has it in the shop, working on it. their computer says it is a high voltage alarm. but have not yet located the source. it only goes off when the motor reaches 5900 rpm. Has anybody else had this problem?
- What fish is this? (small, Maine, shallow freshwater cove)

Anyone seeing changes in Cabelas stores that they've been to?
Took My boat to Kansas City Kansas Cabelas today for electric work. From What the employees there were saying, the buyout is still not a done deal. seems to be some issues with the Worlds foremost bank deal. even if it goes through they don't feel there will be major changes. time will tell. Somehow Kansas City metro can support 1 Cabelas, 2 Bass Pro, 1 Scheels, 1 Rogers sporting goods, 1 Academy sports, and multiple Dicks sporting goods.

The war on litter, update.
the county has trash barrels all over the local lake here in Kansas City Kansas. Nearly every place you can access the water has a barrel nearby . it amazes and disgusts me to see worm boxes, beer and pop cans, and all other forms of trash laying 10 feet from the barrels. Fortunately the county has workers that travel around the lake cleaning up after these slobs. The one plus is access from shore is very limited on this lake. there are a lot of good shore anglers here, but there are also a lot of bums.

Best way to store kayak with limited room?
i warped my first one in a hot garage. it sat on 2 saw horses. If you have to store it in a hot building, I suggest you support it well in the middle and on both ends.

Best way to store kayak with limited room?
i have one of these in my basement holding my 12 ft.Kayak against the ceiling. Got it on amazon. its called a Rad Sportz kayak hoist. think it cost $28.00. its not a good idea to store a kayak in a hot building, it will probably warp. there are several brands available,of this same style hoist.

Anyone fishing during the eclipse?
Was fishing Wyandotte county lake in Kansas City Kansas during the eclipse. was mostly cloudy ,but got to see it between the clouds a couple times. with the eclipse and clouds it was dark for nearly 10 minutes starting at 1:05 pm.. Caught a 2 lb bass on a Whopper Plopper in the middle of it all. Now I can say I caught a bass during a full solar eclipse.

all-purpose gear ratio
if you are looking for one all purpose gear ratio, I would go for 6.4 to 1. the reason I would choose that over the faster ratios is if I am using crankbaits, or most other horizontal style baits, the faster ratio will wear out my wrist.

Trailering A Small Boat
I totally agree with this. Roller trailers are a pain. my first boat was a 16ft Jon boat on a roller trailer. it took all of two fishing trips, to get rid of the rollers and install bunks.

Solar Eclipse party
supposed to be a full eclipse 50 miles north of Kansas city. sounds Like St Joseph Missouri is in the heart of the eclipse path. they are predicting traffic between KC and St Jo will be backed up for hours with people trying to be a part of it. My local lake is on the edge of the eclipse path, supposed to be at 87% eclipse. think I will go fishing and settle for 87%.

Fishing just for fun?
If it were not for competitive fishing we would not have the equipment or techniques most of us use today. I fished Bass tournaments every available weekend for 10 years. it improved my skills dramatically. as I have aged my interest drifted away from competitive fishing and more toward casual fishing. I may fish small tournaments occasionally, but fishing tournaments every weekend no longer interests me.
