  1. WELCOME to the forums!! AS Ever, Skillet
  2. I've caught some nice Crappie from small ponds and lakes. Usually using Bass lures so that might be why they had some size. Don't have any first hand knowledge of this but have heard it from several sources. Here in the South with all the warm weather, Crappie are supposed to be way worse than Bream (in smaller waters) about going wild and over populating. As Ever, Skillet
  3. Glad you decided on what to do. Just wanted to underline what the other guys have said, be a fanatic about the therapy and exercises As Ever, Skillet
  4. I had a Daiwa Boron back in the 80's and didn't know about the problems with them until I joined here. I'm with Garnet on this. I really didn't have anything to compare it to, it was my first rod that wasn't 'glass. I don't think I've ever even picked up a rod that impressed me more. The one you have is heavier than the one I had. I used mine for just about everything (my only set-up at the time). You won't get the distance with it as you would a longer rod but the answers so far sound good to me. WELCOME to the forums!! As Ever, Skillet
  5. Venting is so much better when you KNOW that everyone will feel the same way you do :'( about the situation. If you're like me, you probably put it someplace special so you would know where it's at when you started looking :-?. Not to pour salt on the wounds, it gets worse the older you get ;D As Ever, Skillet
  6. CONGRATULATIONS Glad everything went well. Just imagine how upset she'll be when she gets old enough to date and you pull out the Baby Pics. :-[ As Ever, Skillet
  7. The loss of friend and family is hard enough. The circumstances has to make it harder. My thoughts to you and yours... As Ever, Skillet
  8. I can't help you with the questions on your problem. Did want too say GOOD LUCK when you decide to do it. If there is any physical thereapy and exercises after the surgery, do it as if your life depended on. It REALLY pays off later... As Ever, Skillet
  9. It sounds like the pond will be a solid thing in a few years. With lighter gear you do have just as much fun with the smaller ones (I am such a LIAR ;D). You might want to be careful letting them run like that. It seems like if I let them have it too long they tend to swallow the hook and I would just about as soon take a whippin' as gut-hook one :'( As Ever, Skillet
  10. My daughter is supposed to deliver on the 11th of this month. If your wife is anything like her, she is REALLY ready to get this over! This is very special for you and your family, CONGRATULATIONS my friend... As Ever, Skillet

Can you actually be a Mook when you talk slower than molasses in Jan. and live this far South of the Mason-Dixon Line :-/ As Ever, Skillet
  12. WELCOME to the forums. There is a wealth of knowledge here in the articles and people and the people are great... As Ever, Skillet
  13. I have never had much luck with bass I could see. If I can see them, they can definitely see me... As Ever, Skillet
  14. With that many folks living around it, someone has bound to have tried it. I would have (more than once ;D). Depending on what type of gear you have (something lighter) you might try a smaller in-line spinner like Mepps 3 pulled along bank. If there are any fish in it (with no cover or apparent structure) early morning or late evening might be best. WELCOME to the forums... As Ever, Skillet
  15. RW did a great job on your questions! I'll just say WELCOME to the forums... As Ever, Skillet
  16. I pretty much always fish from the bank and don't use diving crankbaits. IMHO cranks should be bouncing off underwater structure (to work best). Which means getting hung up A LOT :'(. Because of this I have always paid close attention to posts on this subject. Folks swear by them when used from a boat but from the bank they seem to be pretty much useless. Because of these posts, this is all word of mouth (haven't used them myself)... As Ever, Skillet

Glad you decided to start posting! It's better for you and us. WELCOME to the forums... As Ever, Skillet
  18. The big thing now is having a dedicated set-up for each type of fishing and sure wished I had the budget to spend that kind of money ;D! I don't fish where there are mats of grass or weeds like some of the guys are talking about and I use a 6'M Bionic Blade with pistol grip and Citica 200D.Usually throw smaller jigs (3/16-5/16) and do pretty well IMHO. When I first started bass fishing I was using a 5'6" pistol grip and a fiberglass rod with a Zebco 33, caught fish with a jig. Work with what you got until you can afford to upgrade. When you get to that point, definitely get something heavier... As Ever, Skillet
  19. I'm with buck.wheat on this one. First thing I thought was keep your durned hand out of anything with a mouth that large ! I always thought I would pretty much try any type of fishing........until I heard of grappling (same thing). Sorry to say, I know my limits boys and girls. Haven't tried it, ain't gonna try it ,nope, no way no how, just couldn't ;D! You're a better man than I, Gunga Din... As Ever, Skillet
  20. WELCOME Myself, I like all the top water answers and would add if there is a little wind and ripple or chop on the water try a Smithwick Devil's Horse in light or shad color... As Ever, Skillet
  21. WELCOME
  22. I qualify for the pond or small lake bank-beater as well as anyone and was thinking the same thing as bassinandrew 88 while reading. The only thing I don't throw is diving crankbaits and not because they don't work.IMHO crankbaits need to bounce off things like stumps, limbs, rocks, etc. to work best and in my advanced state of age I just don't like swimming to unsnag them anymore ;D! I will and do throw anything else you would throw in a large lake... As Ever, Skillet
  23. Durn fella, don't think you need our help!(joking) WELCOME to the Forum! Like folks have said the articles and search feature are worth their weight in gold. If you see anything that gives you a problem, fire off a post asking about it. Believe me there are any number of people on here ready and willing to impart their knowledge when asked (actually some are probably frothing at the mouth at this very moment ;D)... As Ever, Skillet
  24. I've always left the line in the box and brought the line out the hole in the box, held it between my knees or feet, put tension on the line with hand about 10" or 12" from reel and cranked it on. It would have to be some kind of amazing coincidence (I guess anything that can happen will happen sooner or later) but I don't think I've ever cranked twists into the line this way and my luck just don't run to real good that often As Ever, Skillet
  25. The only time I've ever caught them was when I was really young, Bream fishing with a cane pole, in old river runs with my Daddy. Don't think any of them were that large. In my limited experience with different fish, they are probably the hardest fighting for their size of anything I've caught. Tenka, I've always wondered how you target them having only caught them by accident... As Ever, Skillet
