  1. The portable tire inflator + DC to AC car inverter combo = win
  2. The seal kit and new prop will probably run you around $50. I'm not super mechanically inclined (I'm a pencil pusher during the day), but I've replaced my old Ultrex's lower unit armature and seals before, it's not terribly difficult and there are many many YT videos on how to do it. $150 to lengthen the shaft seems like a bargain though. Tough decision, but how is the Terrova better? It seems like they both have the same features, after your PowerDrive upgrade.
  3. I would still add a spotlock TM. MK just added a 36” shaft Terrova, but I imagine the jet to get from point A to B wouldn’t be too squirmy.
  4. OK this might get me into a kayak...some key features I saw: 1) flexible battery system, you can use a 12v-60v battery and the jetdrive adapts the power, and they don't require a proprietary battery. 2) 88lbs unrigged. 3) $2,900!!! 4) serviceable jetdrive, weighs 5lbs.
  5. I don’t scope either but I’ve fished clear enough water to see LMB just come up to a popper to investigate it. Sometimes they’ll even just bump it with their nose. Sometimes they’ll circle away when you pop it and come back and never inhale it.
  6. Anytime they are looking and feeding upwards. That could be on spatterdock edges, hydrilla edges, open pea gravel flats, grass flats, open water boulder formations, bluff wall banks , it just depends on the fishery. I've caught them in bluebird skies on tidal rivers, flats with zero structure or grass, and crystal clear glacial lakes from 30 feet down. I typically prefer calmer water, but a little chop is OK too. The key is that you're calling them to the lure, and they will either ignore, investigate or inhale. You just gotta figure out if they're into inhaling them or not. I'll throw a Rico anytime I think there's a remote chance fish will bite it though. It's my preferred method of fishing.
  7. My Curados (150DCs, MGL, 200k) are all geary, even with regular cleaning because I’ve put them through the wringer. On the other hand, the Daiwa SV105s I’ve had have also been through the wringer and are smooth as butter. I think it just comes down to the model and those Shimano X ship gears or digigears or whatever the current marketing term is.
  8. I have a close friend who guides/camps down there. Heartbreaking for the families who have their kids in camp there. Holding and praying for the best for them.
  9. Yeah, it went from 96 to 72 degrees, with rain. I think the water temps changed by 10 degrees. Whenever I fished the pads shallow after a cold rain like that, I found the LMB to have lockjaw, but these guys still caught 'em.
  10. They have full day replays on MLF, I missed all of day 2, when the conditions changed to a cold front so I’m watching that and how they adjusted.
  11. It was refreshing to see the anglers fishing shallow cover, instead of looking at their FFS all day. I fish the creeks these guys were in, and rather than flipping docks and grass beds on the main stem, I think people watching Poche on day 3 and Defoe on day 4, putting up big bags will have other people looking to fish the shallow cover more often too.
  12. Any musky in that stretch? If so, target those too in the fall!
  13. 98 yesterday, 99-100 today, and 99 again tomorrow. It will definitely help the hydrilla get up to speed after a cold May, but I hope temps get back down to normal range next week. It shouldn't be 80 degrees at sunrise.... On another note, Pepco and Maryland have some nice home energy rebates going on, so I had some work done on the house to increase efficiency (air sealing, insulation) and it's definitely paying off. Going from R20 to R49 in the attic, and cleaning the condenser coils, my upstairs is sitting at 74 in this heat pretty easily.
  14. My Ultrex Quest would do a lot of searching in SL once in a while last year, but I think it was fixed with the last update I did. It’s whisper quiet now.
  15. It makes fishing more efficient, especially in wind or current. It doesn't make the angler better, but will help with efficiency, like if I needed to drive 100 screws in where there was no power outlet, I'm going to opt for the cordless 20v every time, but that doesn't mean I'm going drilling them in flush everytime.
  16. Ran a regular TM for four years before going with the Ultrex and ran that for three years, and now I have an Ultrex Quest. Upgrading each time was worth the price of admission for me. I fish to relax, and enjoy the experience and the Ultrex's absolutely helps. TM are tools, why just have a hand phillips head screw driver when you can get a 20v cordless drill that can have different bits and do the job 1000x better.
  17. Basically the same conditions as me, except I also consider what the bass may be targeting. If it's shad or menhaden, I'll usually opt for the spinnerbait. But if it's bluegills or crappie, I'll usually throw the bladed jig if I can. Those seem to mimic the bait more on the tidal Potomac than reservoirs/lakes though.
  18. Change the leads, if it keeps happening you’ve narrowed it down to the battery BMS.
  19. I find the Curado BFS doesn’t do well over 3/8oz. I backlash more than when I go to 1/4oz at the same dial number. Then if I add more braking I lose a good chunk of distance.
  20. I prefer not to throw senkos....
  21. Here's a somewhat secret spot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/oUr1KVMaC9KXECpP6 You can hike to it from the C&O canal towpath, but you better load up on permethrin to avoid the ticks.
  22. Amazon has some colors of the 4" Yamamoto Zako for $2.49 before taxes. If you search for "Yamamoto Zako", you'll see a few options and variations pop up. Sightflash is a staple for my bladed jigs.
  23. Dicks Sporting Goods has buy 3 get 3 free on all their Z-man stuff, including mini-max chatterbaits.
  24. 6' long, it covers the entire cockpit area and then some.
  25. I've been experimenting with 20lb YGK G-Soul SS112 sinking braid for a weightless fluke in tidal cypress knees. I wanted the line to not impede the fluke and shimmying down while being carried by tidal flow. I still see the braid floating and not breaking surface tension in a weightless presentation. It's probably fine for a bottom presentation, but didn't really impact what I wanted it to do.
