  1. I put a 3" slim senko on my sons Zebco spincast one day, and he outcaught me 3-1...somedays when he takes a break from fishing I pick up his Zebco.
  2. I like the cotton canvas stuff from Columbia, SPF 50 and multiple waist/inseam sizes. Usually $30-$45 from Amazon.
  3. Not my intended species, but I'm liking the Jackal Binksy so far. Walks really easy, sputters at low speeds, and can pop very subtly.
  4. Well darn...I really wanted a MH/MF...a little slower than my 6'10 MH/F Tatula, but I'm sure I'll like this rod too. I was just interested in trying something different to see if it worked better for me.
  5. I'm using a Fenwick Silverhawk II 7' ML/F with a Penn Battle II 2000 with 5lb fluoro for 1/16oz hook and Z-Man TRD's for my Ned rod, and I can fling it a good distance, I'd guess at least 50 yards. The rod is rated for 1/8-1/2oz, but handles the TRD and hook just fine. I'm pretty impressed with the Fenwick though, I could feel taps while deadsticking the TRD out 50 yards on slack line. But if I had to do it over again, I'd get the 7' ML/F Cabela's XML spinning rod for $91 shipped, they are on sale. I just got the 6' L/F and absolutely love the build quality and sensitivity, check out their other offerings. Lifetime Cabela's warranty to boot. https://www.cabelas.com/product/bargain-cave/fishing/rods/pc/105591780/c/105740280/sc/105742080/cabelas-xml-spinning-rod/2601275.uts?slotId=0
  6. This is an old thread, but I'm fairly new to fishing and my novice observation is that, when a chartreuse bait is used in stained water, when it's jerked or jigged, it gives off a little "flash" because it's contrasting with the water color or background which can attract the attention of active fish.
  7. I just ordered the same rod. I have the 6'9 ML/R Tatula and I use it for poppers and jerkbaits. It's not like a crankbait regular blank, it's more like a moderate fast bend. I've been using a the 6'10 MH/F Tatula as my all around rod, and have been primarily throwing 4.8" Keitechs with 3/8oz jigheads/underspins and love it, but I think the "regular" blank might be even better to keep them pinned, I've lost just a handful on the 6'10 when they headshake. I'm going to make this 7'3 rod my primary spinnerbait/chatterbait rod paired with a Tatula Type-R.
  8. That was my case, and for about 2 months too. I watched video reviews of the Tatula SV TW, and not one of them I saw talked about how to set it up. I did see the Reel Test review of the CT Type R vs Tat SV TW and the Type R outcasted it by about 8 yards on average, so I figured the way I had it set up was about right. Now I'm bombing the SV TW and I wonder if the Reel Test guy had his SV TW set up right too. I feel like it's a totally different reel now in my hands.
  9. I just read this thread and what you said here just hit the nail on the head for me. I have 2 Tatula CT Type R's and I bought a SV TW. I was trying to adjust the SV TW like my Type R, mid brake setting, tension knob to where the bait dropping straight down didn't cause backlash. Distance was just OK on the SV TW that way....one day I took it out and had the settings on 18 brake, very loose knob tension and flung it out with the same lure and it went a good 10-15 yards farther.
  10. Sorry for my ignorance, but I had to look up what a slider head was. Basically it's just a one piece rig like a pegged bullet weight on a EWG worm hook?
  11. What rig do you have set up for the egg sinker? Where are your knots, and what knots are you using? 8lb mono seems kind of light to me for a 3/4oz egg sinker, plus the weight of the rig and the bait.
  12. Go for snakeheads over there!
  13. Yes, low cost filler. That line will never see the light of day. There are a lot of threads about backing. I use braid because it doesn't have memory, and it weighs less than mono. I have both Tatsu and SniperFC, and I would get which ever one is cheaper, both are very good fluoro lines. If you do a search you can read up on both.
  14. I use 50# PE braid for backing it's like $13 for 500 yards of generic braid on Amazon. I use SniperFC 12# for my spinnerbaits/chatterbait rod and love it. Spool up your reel with the PE full. Then walk out about 75 yards of PE, cut it off, then spool on the SniperFC. Replace the SniperFC as needed. Do the same for the cranks, but maybe 100 yards if you're bombing them.
  15. I like to feel the bottom for contour, especially when fishing a new spot, and most of the ponds and lakes here are pretty shallow, 1-6 feet around the banks so I go for 3/8oz to bang the bottom.

I think they're talking about the Yamamoto Cowboy: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Yamamoto_Cowboy/descpage-GYCB.html
  17. I'm anxious to try the Jackall Binsky Popper.
  18. I just got the Cabela's XML 6' L/F paired with a Daiwa BG 1500 with 5lb fluoro, and I love it. I'm flinging 1/16oz + TRD ned rigs 50 yards with ease. The build on the XML is really nice and the guides are really strong, they don't seem like they'll bend very easily when the rod is being transported. I like the parabolic action on it, it's not whippy, but has enough tip and I was hauling up some large branches today with it. The 5lb Sniper FC fluoro is no joke either...I must have been putting 10+lbs of pressure on that line pulling up branches. The XML is on sale at Cabela's for $90, and of course the lifetime warranty it comes with. If only they had this rod with these specs for a BFS.
  19. The Ned Rig is for real! It's something I was eyeing up all winter to learn. After registering my boat trailer at the MVA, I headed over to Whetstone to get the lines wet. Brought 2 rods, one rigged with a Keitech 4.8" and a TRD coppertreuse. Fished the spots to the right of the boat house, alternating rods. The Ned Rig caught 5 (1 decent and 4 dinks), and the Keitech 1, but it was the biggest at about 2.5lbs. Definitely going to keep one rod rigged with the Ned at all times.
  20. Met up with @fishwizzard at the Tidal Basin yesterday morning on an incoming tide around 7AM. Conditions were tough, it was windy and seemed to be getting colder throughout the morning. We found a spot that was decently protected from the wind near one of the tidal inlets. There were a lot of shad, or herring along the wall, and saw SH coming up for air every 10 minutes or so. We tried jerkbaits, lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, paddletails, inline spinners, creature baits....but nothing. Chalked it up to too much baitfish to compete with, although we tried to make our presentations stick out from the real stuff and left around 9:30AM. Fishwizzard can really sling the rod, has good form and keeps those elbows tucked in. And this was a first for me at the tidal basin...a decent sized beaver that scared the bejesus out of me...he crept up along the tidal wall from my backside and I saw him from my peripheral and thought it was a 2' rat...by the time I got my phone out he started making his way out to the other side.
  21. @TheBrendaSeems like something else is wrong if you're breaking 8lb mono on small bass. Check the guides on your rod, are they dinged up where they're chaffing your line? @J FranchoThat's exactly how I spool my spinning reels...told it creates line twists that way though.
  22. Ebay is having 20% off today. Go to: https://www.ebay.com/rpp/6901?_trkparms=%26clkid%3D3450868775151908554 20% off $25+ "PREP4SUMMER" Max $50 off. And search in the "Search this sale" box. There are quite a few nice JDM Daiwa reels for sale. I picked up a JDM Zillion TWS 1516 for $153 shipped. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Daiwa-JDM-Zillion-TW-TWS-1516-Baitcasting-fishing-reel-magsealed-Select-Models/142232826388?hash=item211dbcb214:m:m4PSSVmgNVSoGWE6ueGMFAw Looks like that ebay seller got wise and the JDM reels are no longer on sale and cancelled my order.
  23. It's at $75 now, but if you're not in a rush, it drops down to $63 from time to time.
  24. Do you all use swivels to prevent line twists?
  25. That sounds like an amazing weekend getaway that I think I may be able to cajole my wife into doing with me.
