  1. Every other month is my guess, 10% off right now however. 10% Coupon on $25+ Use code PERFECT10 on select items. Ends 6/10. See details.
  2. Actually, I think everyone just helped me understand that it's me that has the problem. I'm really not sure why I'm trying to hide it. I think I'm a really good father, I spend a lot of time with my kids when they're awake, I spend a lot of time with my wife and even watch her shows with her (Jersey Shore, Dancing with the Stars, Catfish)...maybe I just feel guilty asking her for time to myself. Anyways, I'm going fishing Friday after hitting some golf balls after work, and that'll be the first step in stopping these white lies.
  3. Everything but giftcards, and cash type auctions. It was a Buy It Now, but used item auction. The other Zillion SV TW's I saw were brand new from retail type sellers. You enter the code just after you hit the check out button, at the bottom of the page where you select your payment type, but before you hit confirm and pay.
  4. So I just learned we're staying at Weirs Beach, literally right across on Lakeside Ave. Don't think I'm going to trailer my small boat up there from the DC metro area...one blown tire and that will throw off the whole vacation. We'll probably end up renting a pontoon boat for the week for daytime fun activity, then maybe some late afternoon fishing. Any tips for spots? Looking at google maps, it looks like there's a nice stretch of rip rap between Moultons Cove and Chattle Cove, then pretty uninhabited areas along the western shore of Moultons Cove south of Pickerel Cove.
  5. Thanks - I'll probably end up getting the Lew's custom plus speed stick because of the short handle. It's rated for 1/8-1/2 oz lures, which is a pretty large range, but I'll be happy if it can throw 3/8-1/2 oz lures effectively. I'm hoping it has a soft enough tip in the ML power range.
  6. Thinking about it, or just wait until next week when there's another 20% off code. About the gas powered stuff, I donated my old gas powered mower and trimmer and got the Ego 56v line stuff at Home Depot. Really good stuff with almost no maintenance...but I only have to maintain 1/4 acre.
  7. I've never fished a Lew's rod, but I'm highly interested in the Custom Plus Topwater rod (LCPTWS) 6'8 ML/F (1/8-1/2) as my popper rod. I read one post where they though the ML felt more like a Medium power rod. In my mind, a ML/F should have a soft tip, but gets to the backbone in the upper 1/3 of the rod, and a M/F a little stiffer tip and gets to the backbone a little higher up. I really like the Daiwa Tatula 6'9 ML/MF power and action, but dislike the handle length. Any opinions on the Lew's power/action ratings compared to say, a Daiwa Tatula?
  8. Alright...so I'm not the only one.
  9. I see what you're saying. In my pea sized mind, a little white lie of saying I'm going to the gym when I'm really fishing is no harm, no foul...but yes, if the roles were reversed it would bother me.
  10. Just in time, I "need" two more CT Type R's. Edit: wow...just picked up a used Zillion SV TW for $120 after the coupon. And it's one-time use only (one transaction, up to $100 max savings), so use wisely. I just remembered I needed something else, and the coupon doesn't work anymore.
  11. My issue is, I have a pretty addictive personality. I want to go fishing 24/7. I just got back into angling last April, and I've spent a lot of money on gear, tackle and a boat since then. It's my issue more than hers I'd say. I'm probably overreacting and should just tell her I'm going fishing, but I'm really just not trying to stir the pot...because if she really wanted to, she could do the math on my gear and tackle, and the amount of time I've been fishing that she knows of and make me feel like ****. Gotta find that balance I guess, but fishing is too good right now!
  12. So I had to look up who Sam Cassell is, and I only get the basketball player. I go by the "A happy wife, is a happy life" kind of mantra.
  13. Yeah, that too. But I go bank fishing at local ponds, and it's been really fun lately.
  14. Just curious if I'm not the only guy who tells his wife or significant other little white lies to get out fishing more. On the weekends, it's soccer, swim meets (these things start at 7AM), all that fun family stuff. And when I do get a chance to fish on a weekend, I always offer to take my boys (5 & 8). But that means that I'm usually spending most of my time helping them fish, for now. So to get my own fishing time in, I've been telling my wife I'm going to the gym after dinner, but really I've been going fishing from 7PM to past sunset at some local ponds. Exercise is exercise right?
  15. So while searching for a popper rod, I stumbled across some bargain finds that I just couldn't pass up: * Daiwa Zillion 7'4 HRB (Heavy/Mod Fast) * Daiwa Zillion 7'2 MHRB-G (MH/Mod Fast Glass) I'm going to use the 7'4 HRB for throwing horny toads into heavy cover, and large plastic swimbaits like 7" Keitechs. It seems like there's just enough tip, but plenty of backbone for heavy cover. I may even try it for flipping jigs. I am unsure about the 7'2 MHRB-G though. I want to get into crankbaits since I now have a small bass boat, and I will probably have to fish deeper when the full heat of summer gets here. This rod is noticeably heavier than the 7'4 HRB, I weighed them using my fish scale, and the HRB came out to 4.0oz while the MHRB-G came out to 6.5oz. The rod itself is pretty thick, almost like a Mag Heavy blank. I couldn't find much info about the MHRB-G version of the Zillion cranking rod, so I'm not sure if it's a composite rod or full glass rod. It does have a very nice parabolic bend though, it goes from a soft tip and then nothing when it hits the backbone. I may try it out with heavy moving single hook lures, like a 1/2oz Jackhammer first. And I got some Jackhammers that were buy one, get one 50% off at Dicks that I stacked with their 20% off coupon. Edit: Oh yeah, I bought a 6'8 Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Tournament Jerkbait rod to see if it fit the bill as my popper rod. Unfortunately the handle is too long for my liking and the guides feel cheap as dirt. It's going back.
  16. 2000, 3000, and 3500 Veranos are back in stock. https://www.cabelas.com/product/bargain-cave/fishing/reels/pc/105591780/c/105740280/sc/105742980/cabelas-verano-spin-reel/1749496.uts?slotId=6
  17. Tacklemonkey says: Father's Day is right around the corner....you're a hardworking guy, go ahead, treat yourself! And of course...there's always the July 4th Tacklewarehouse sale, and probably an Ebay discount code.
  18. Good call on the buoy for a $120 gripper.
  19. Definitely going into her stocking this X-mas.
  20. That sucks. Well if you can wait a couple weeks, Ebay will probably have a sale for Father's Day and you can get a Daiwa BG for about $70 I'd guess.
  21. My wife says she would go out with me more, except for this reason. For you guys that have wives who fish with you on the boat, how do you solve it?
  22. Algae bloom? Are there a lot of residential areas where runoff flows into the pond?
  23. In the $100 range, take a look at the Cabela's Verano, which looks like it's built on the Daiwa Tatula LT frame ($190 reel). https://www.cabelas.com/product/bargain-cave/fishing/reels/pc/105591780/c/105740280/sc/105742980/cabelas-verano-spin-reel/1749496.uts?slotId=6 They only have the 3000 size reel, but that should work for a lot of presentations. You can get a $100 Cabela's giftcard from Ebay for $80 as well. Lifetime warranty by Cabela's to boot.
  24. I bought a spincast combo for my son last year, one of those $25 ones and the handle broke after a couple weeks, only using it maybe twice. I chucked the receipt but brought it in anyways and they replaced it with no questions. But I'm pretty sure it was logged in my Dick's rewards card so maybe they looked it up that way.
  25. Never had white bass, but I dislike catfish because I think it tastes very gamey. Anyone ever try smoking the white bass filets? Mesquite and hickory would impart lots of flavor.
