Minn Kota iPilot questions
There is definitely a sense of increased bulk because of the coil hanging from the top of the unit all the way down the length of the TM. In addition the two clamps are stainless steel which doesn’t match the black of the Terrova. Finally, because of the way the Terrova stows, I had to mount the bottom bracket turned slightly counterclockwise at about 11 o’clock, perhaps a tad more, so there is a loss of symmetry in that regard. However, the design does seem sound and functional.

Minn Kota iPilot questions
I literally just finished installing a Garmin 93sv on to my which does have lift assist. I used the Precision Sonar Cable Guard in the video Tennessee Boy linked. It was pretty easy to install. I rotated my motor 360+ degrees both clockwise and counter clockwise, and I am confident that it will work on the water. I won’t know for sure though until I get on the water. That won’t be until the weekend after mother’s day. I am hoping it will be negligible, but I am wondering if I will feel any drag from the portion of the cable that is submerged.

Swivels...preference? Solving Line Twist
I would not consider myself discerning on swivels, and I do not use them all the time. With that said, I have never had any issues with the Bass Proshops private label stuff. Recently, I have been giving Mustad Fastach a go both with and without swivels. It took me a while to get use to taking them on and off, particularly with split rings. I have to admit that they are growing on me.

Braid to 6# Fluorocarbon Leader Help
Problem solved. 10# Power Pro did the trick! I tied it twice just to make sure. Both times the braid bit in immediately. Thanks again to everyone for your input.

Braid to 6# Fluorocarbon Leader Help
My dad use to slay them too with just a Zebco 33 and a spool of Stren, but bass fishing hasn’t really been much about ‘need’ in decades. I couldn’t decide on a couple so I bought a variety. Being on sale, it was an affordable way to get into FC.

Most expensive lure
Evolution Baits Grassburner for $25 when it first came out. Worst impulse buy ever. I think it is like $15 on TW now. I still have it, but I have lost confidence in it so I will probably never lose it.

Braid to 6# Fluorocarbon Leader Help
It’s not so much as that as how much other new stuff I have to pass up in favor of more expensive line. The 20, 15, 12, & 10# Red Label are working fine with an FG knot so far. With other FC normally costing $20-25 a spool, it amounts to the bait monkey having to go without a lot of meals. Besides, Red Label is on TW’s best seller list so there is some consensus that it is an adequately good product.

Braid to 6# Fluorocarbon Leader Help
It’s working. It just gives out before my line to lure knot when I have to break off.

Braid to 6# Fluorocarbon Leader Help
BPS had a sale for $7.49 per spool. If the line is the problem, I’ll stop trying.

What brands of line do you use if you don't mind me asking?

Braid to 6# Fluorocarbon Leader Help
I use a lot of braid to leader set ups. This post is specifically about 6# FC. I don't have this problem with mono or 8# FC. In this single circumstance, I have been using an Alberto knot to connect the leader. It seems like the line diameter of the 6# FC is too small. I cannot get FG wraps to dig into the leader even if I use as many as 30 wraps. Consequently, I have been using an Alberto knot for this circumstance which works adequately. With that said, I would prefer to use an FG knot if at all possible. Sometimes when I snag, my Alberto knot gives before my SD Jam, Pitzen, or Orvis knot do. Since I am only talking about 6# line, I am hesitant to use a weaker knot to connect to the lure. It's annoying to the point I am considering a dedicated 6# FC reel. Before I do, I thought I would consult all of you. It also occurs to me that perhaps those who can successfully tie 6# FC leader might be using other gear so here is what I am using. Leader Line: 6# Red Label Main Line: 15# Kastpro

Net for bass fishing
Admittingly my net is on the large side. Although it has one of those handles that slides into the net for storage, I still find it in the way all the time. I am tempted to leave my net at home and just be prepared to lip a biggun should I ever get one to the boat. How many of you stow a net on your boat for bass fishing?

Rod saver straps
I just installed this exact product. It comes with two straps. I only needed one for the bow and I am trying to decide what to do with the second one. Either I am going to put it on the stern for my guest or put it up to work in tandem with the first strap for peace of mind while going to the lake. One seems like it would suffice, but a second going across the butt handle just behind the reels would be stout. Honestly, a larger concern to me is leaving my gear out in the open like that might present a temptation to an unsavory type.

Got my first boat, now what do I need?! Tips on lifejackets to prop wrench...what do you recommend?
Put a good flashlight, spare plug, spare keys, and plenty of rope to your list.

M vs MH Power Cranking Stick
Thanks for all the input. I will go with the MH. Even though I probably won’t use the upper range of the lure weight, the extra power sounds like it will make the rod more versatile and it will be worth any casting distance I might lose on 1.5s.

M vs MH Power Cranking Stick
I was given a BPS gift card and have decided on their Crankin’ Stick. I want to use it as a general purpose cranking stick for everything from 1.5s to 1/2 ounce spinnerbaits/chatterbaits and even possibly deep divers some day. M = 1/4 to 5/8 ounce lures. MH = 3/8 to 1 1/2 ounce lures. It was suggested that I should go with MH for more backbone for hook setting single hooks and the added drag of mid/deep diving lures. This will be my first cranking stick. Thoughts?

Is a fishing line better than another?
It seems to me that modern braid is over engineered for bass fishing with regards to everything except color fade. Stick popular or mainstream manufacturers and, for bass fishing at least, differences will be marginal.

Braided line fade
I just read a bunch of testimonials on Vicious No-Fade Braid. When they release a hi-vis variant, I will be first in line. Thanks for making me aware of the product.

Braided line fade
If braided line didn’t fade, I’m not sure how many years it would be before I respooled. I use a leader with it so I lose very little of it due to abrasion.

Lowrance Elite 9Ti or Garmin Echomap plus 93sv
I am in the same situation with regards to deciding between these two products. I am definitely mounting mine on the trolling motor so I decided on the Garmin. On the BPS site under Questions, Lowrance Tech Supprt stated that they don’t recommend mounting their transducer on the TM because of the size. That was the deciding factor for me.

tying feathered trebles
Try not to get too carried away. One pack of flash and one pack of hackle or deer hair will be enough to tie a lot of trebles. I have more than enough materials to do all of my top waters and jerkbaits several times over.
