  1. BPS will be putting them on sale for $600 on the 15th of February. I believe the model is the one with the CV transducer. My question is if this would be a solid value choice for the front of the boat. $600 is about the limit of my budget. Alternative options would be appreciated.
  2. Will BPS let you apply a credit from trade in against a reel that is on sale? I will get one of the pro qualifier 2 if they will let me.
  3. Look at it this way. If they paid someone to use that brand, they would have to charge us more. I am not saying it wouldn’t be a wiser business model than what they are using now, but I bet you I couldn’t have gotten the Supreme XT baitcaster I just got for $60.
  4. It gets updated annually I think. It’s to the point that nobody takes it seriously anymore. Sure, if you eat enough lead it will hurt you, but putting warning labels on literally anything with it in it just defeats the purpose of warnings.
  5. I never used a Pflueger baitcaster before I bought my Supreme XT from the same clearance sale you have linked. I am really impressed. If they had any Patriarchs in left hand retrieve in stock, I would buy one in a heartbeat for $100. It’s got to be the best deal out there right now.
  6. I’ll be happy when Academy starts shipping to California again. Prop 65 labeling standards have caused them to stop shipping here.
  7. I started using Reel X about a year or so ago, and it does the job well.
  8. Of course there is. I bet he has a GoFundMe set up to capitalize on all the triggered Saints supporters.
  9. While I think it is natural to single out that really bad call, I agree with you that it is only one of the reasons that the Saints lost. Colin Cowherd does a good job breaking it down.
  10. This past summer I bought two spools of Kastpro in 15# & 30# for trial on spinning and baitcasting respectively. The pros are the price, strength, variety of colors, and overall performance. However, I noticed two cons. First, while spooling it on my baitcaster, I was using my hand to guide the line into the reel to make sure the far left/right sides of the spooled with every pass. When I did this, the part of my finger turned blue from the dye in the line. With that said, I wouldn’t say the line fades unusually fast. The second thing that I noticed is how slick the line was when I casted heavy baits. I had to apply more pressure on the spool with my thumb when casting heavy baits. Otherwise the spool felt like it would slip under my thumb as I made my cast.
  11. I used a laser range finder to find a land mark in my neighbor’s yard that is 70 yards away. I set the rod down with the filler spool tied to the backing, unspool from the fill spool as I walk to my neighbor’s yard, tie on a 4 oz weight, go back to my rod, and reel. I use swivel clip just to eliminate any line twist. It takes less than five minutes.
  12. Typically spinning gear made for bass fishing isn’t designed for lures that heavy. It’s not necessarily the risk of breaking the rod while casting. It’s that the rod will not cast the lure easily. Also there may be issues working the lure as intended. You might want to consider casting gear. If that doesn’t appeal to you, you might consider a lighter variant of whatever lure you have in mind. Unless you are talking about bigger swimbaits, a lighter version likely exist.
  13. I try not to pattern my behavior based on the exception rather than the norm, and I don’t believe the majority of sellers or even a large minority of them are criminals.
  14. Rapala Original Minnow. I know they work or it is one hell of a conspiracy spanning decades to convince me that they work. After 2.5 years of bass fishing I still haven’t caught anything. It no longer occurs to me to tie one on. Casting distance issues requires that I use my finesse spinning gear which is always loaded with a ned rig, drop shot, etc. so I find that I don’t bother anymore.
  15. I got my Supreme XT Thursday. I was able to spool it up and play with it in the front yard this morning. My first impression upon opening the box was that the reel isn't the most compact thing I have ever held. However, it feels light. With 2 brakes on and 4 off, the reel chucks a half ounce casting plug pretty far with little effort. Also, when I put it on a rod, the reel still felt comfortable in the palm. I like it. I like it as much as much as my Casitas, Fuego CT, and my Tatula CT. It reaches the limits of my accuracy with as little or less effort. Next step will be to get it on the water.
  16. Spro BBZ-1 Shad in slow sink. 2019 will be year 3 and the closest I have come to catching a fish with it is seeing the water stirring behind it once when I was fishing it near the surface.
  17. I have two similar rods that are similar, but a little lighter. My ML is rated for 1/16 to 3/8 and my M is rated 1/8 yo 3/8. I find that my ML is great for exposed lighter wire hooks but I prefer the M for standard wire or weedless presentations. If I could only have one, I would choose the M because it could do both. However I like the ML because of how well it throws really light baits.
  18. I use the Brent Ehrler method that the OP referenced. Different lures will cause me to adjust the magnetic breaks between 8-10. The rest of the dial is pretty much there for looks. Unless there is significant wind, the spool tension knob never gets used after setting it to barely having side to side play.
  19. For some unknown reason, I suddenly feel the urge to believe that you are a super cool human being that I should emulate.
  20. For me, it is impossible to go with all one brand of soft plastics. Long ago, i surpassed ‘actual need’ and entered the realm of need based on Uncontrollable Want, and Uncontrollable Want doesn’t seem to recognize the boundaries of such things as brand. At this point, all of my soft plastic purchases seem to be impulse buys.
  21. I wish they had a 5:1 left hand retrieve listed. I would have liked to try one. Instead I picked up a Supreme XT in the 7:1 on an impulse buy. I am kind of excited to try my first Pflueger baitcaster. I don’t hear much about them but when I do, it’s always about how underrated they are.
  22. It’s a sixty dollar reel. In my mind, I would just save the money and buy a better reel to begin with. Then again, I am one of those people who don’t get taking a $10K automobile and tricking it out by putting $100k under the hood. Like cars though, fishing has an eccentric aspect to it so ultimately I say do it if it makes you happy.
  23. For spinning reels I use the spooling tool by Piscifun. It also works with casting reels but not as well, particularly with 1/4 pound spools. I find that the width of the spool and its proximity to the reel creates a problem where the line spends lengths of time pinned to one side of the reel’s line guides. So for baitcasters, I prefer to use an 11 year old child holding/tensioning the spool while I wind the line while the reel is on an actual rod.
  24. Thanks for all the input. I think I will try the 9” on the bow first simply because of the “bigger is easier to see” argument. My eyes just aren’t what they use to be and the console unit will only be about a foot or so from my face when I am using it.
