  1. I like jerkbaits. However, with many of the jerkbaits I own, it seems like they get hook rash just by working them. They eventually develop an arc of scuffed paint behind the front front hook. Has anyone tried applying an additional layer of clear coat to protect the paint job? Does it help?
  2. No. A usable one will cost you between $60 to $500+. Once you go down that rabbit hole, you will discover you NEED somewhere between 5 to 137 of them. I might be exaggerating, but not by much.
  3. Reaction time is the greater culprit in my experience. One of my fishing partners fishes plastics exclusively by feel, very little line watching. I am the opposite. He gut hooks significantly more than I do. With that said, rigging makes a difference too. I feel like round bend hooks gets them in the gut a little more than EWG, both in frequency and severity.
  4. Indeed, lure meets rock more often at night, but you figure out how to cast in the dark. However, in the summer when it is warm at night, I find fishing by moonlight a really serene and peaceful experience. I would do it more, but my regular schedule has me asleep by 10:30 PM.
  5. Fishing is my escape. As soon as I make enough casts to "dial in the range", and all I am doing is watching my line, feeling for a bite, or focusing on my retrieve, there is nothing else.
  6. If it is just $2500 per sponsor, my new picks are Arby's, Academy, and Only Fans.
  7. Assuming I get all their stuff for free, I might as well go for the high dollar stuff, Megabass, Humminbird, & Ranger. I would give Arby's a free patch on my jersey in the shape of an Arby's Sauce Packet.
  8. With regards to the Mann's 1 Minus, is it the Baby size only or do the Mid and Regular size work just as well? Where I am going to fish it, I really need it not to go more than a foot or so deep.
  9. 20# flouro or 17# mono can be broken off easily enough. When I get snagged with 30-50# braid, it is not very easy to break off, and I refuse to be one of those guys who just cuts off and leaves yards and yards of line in the water.
  10. Whenever I buy stuff online, it is all about price. "Ole Reliable" lets me buy a gift card at a discount and then lets me buy stuff on Black Friday, XMas, etc. discount. Other places online have periodic deals that are awesome, and I buy from them when they do. However, I am not loyal to any of them. The only place I am loyal to is the new little shop that is on my way home, and let me tell you. It is awful. Limited offering on the shelves, everything is priced at MSRP, and anything you special order takes about 7 days to get delivered to the shop. I still go through the trouble though because he does carry manufacturers I like, and that shop is part of my community. Plus, I know the owner to be a good guy which probably carries more weight than anything.
  11. I keep trying new brands. I keep concluding that I like Zoom the best.
  12. It's odd that your line could get snagged on it. It does not look like it is particularly far forward for a hook keeper. However, if you do decide to cut it off, you might consider a bait sack. You could attach it on the split grip portion of the rod.
  13. My jerkbait rod doubles for poppers and walking baits so I use 11# or13# mono.
  14. For my financial situation, there is no way it can not curb many habits including fishing. My wife and I used to spend about $50 a week on gas including for the boat. Here in CA, we are easily spending twice that. Unless prices come down, that is a $2600+ a year that is, poof, gone, if prices do not come down, or I do not curb my habits. Now pile on all the other things that have gone up in price. I have a family of four. My two kids will never be young again. I would rather not insist they sacrifice if possible. I have been fishing before.
  15. Quarantine on the water with a rod in your hand if it just feels like a cold.
  16. Dobyns Maverick and a Daiwa Legalis LT will get you to $170+Tax.
  17. 1 Casting Rod, 7', MH 1 Spinning Rod7', M 40 packs of snaps. Well, it didn't happen that way for me.
  18. I use an FG Knot with a length of 3-5 slacky wingspans because I am whimsical like that.
  19. I am not a kayaker, but I do not know how you guys do it on the windy days on the Delta. Even with an 80# thrust trolling motor, I sometimes feel like I am working hard to keep the boat under control when the current and the wind collude against me.
  20. Rapala Floating Minnow
  21. The big thing that sucks about H20 Express is that they stopped shipping to California. I like their hard lures. They are good quality with good colors.
  22. I hope he is in the next movie.
  23. I was just going off of what was listed on the Dobyns website. Usually, Fuji reel seats are listed as a feature, but it was not in the case of the Maverick. When you look at the pictures, the reel seat looks like the same one on the Fury which explicitly states that it is a Fuji reel seat, but I am no expert on the subject.
  24. Looking at the specified features, the Maverick is missing some cork and the Fuji reel seat when compared to the Fury. Anybody with a Colt have any issues with the reel seat on either the spinning or casting model? I am really tempted by the Maverick in spinning over the Fury because it comes in a 6'9" model that I could also use for small jerkbaits along with finesse plastics.
  25. I would be interested in a review as well. I am debating between a Maverick and a Fury in ML spinning. If anyone has an opinions, it would be greatly appreciated.
