Are all spinnerbaits created equal?
Well, I said the same thing when I was fishing Smithwick Rogues and Lucky Craft introduced their Pointer. The Pointer's MSRP is lower now, but initially they were $21 while the Rogues were under $5 and were proven, big producers. Over the years I have accumulated a large collection of jerkbaits, my favorite class of lures. I have kept them all, but I don't fish Smithwick any more. I have a couple of spinnerbaits from other companies, but for the most part, I fish Terminator T-1. I haven't seen the LC version yet, but I'll probably pick one up and see what it's all about. 8-)

Best rod for around $200 +/- $20
I picked up a Dobyns Champion Series 683C last weekend and fished it for a few hours Saturday and Sunday. I'm probably going to like it for a couple of applications, but I won't be getting rid of my G. Loomis or St. Croix anytime soon. My suggestion is the Avid AVC68MXF. Better quality rods with greater sensitivity are far more important for fishing soft plastics and jigs than other techniques. Use the other equipment you have for everything else. If you really like the AVC68MXF, consider the AVC66MF for your next upgrade. This is what I consider an "all-around" rod for treble hooks. I'm sure you will be very pleased with the St. Croix line-up, I have been for years. Good luck! 8-)

Which Is Better
I fished P-Line for a several years before switching to Yo-Zuri Hybrid and later, Hybrid Ultra Soft. I think you will probably like CXX, especially #6 treated with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner. However, Yo-Zuri is stronger and more manageable. 8-)

BPS hook quality?
I agree, but is there anything you should really skimp on!! Maybe "moving lure" rods. "Functionally" nothing above Citica baitcasters and Stradic spinning reels Never buy ANY fishing equipment that is not on sale. 8-)

BPS hook quality?
Save money on something else. Don't skimp on hooks. Better names include VMC, Owner, Mustad, Gamakatsu and XPoint. 8-)

BC vs Spinning?
All techniques can be fished on spinning tackle, but... bait casting equipment is fun to use there is usually greater line capacity stronger overall and higher drag ratings the rod blanks themselves are different for identical ratings some find them more comfortable, especially for specific techniques plus, a lot of guys think baitcasters are "macho", spinning = sissy rod This is how I roll: Finesse = spinning tackle Power= baitcasting gear 8-)

Ok I'm officially offended..
Around here they mix with both largemouth and smallmouth. From what I've read, spots out-compete largemouth and have taken over a lot of fisheries in the Southeast. 8-)

Responding to Introductions
Just work forward. Remember this: You might find it boring and redundant, but the "Hello!" is really appreciated by the new guy. Respond if and when you like, it's certainly not any kind of obligation. 8-)

Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow
Hmm... That's probably why you haven't caught any fish on the lure. Buy a lure retriever, they're cheap and VERY effective. 8-)

1st Time Trip for River Smallies
Probably not, I'm just a GYCB fan! Colors: Smoke and/or clear with white and silver flakes, or whatever you think looks like a baitfish. -Kent

1st Time Trip for River Smallies
For the most part, I would fish 3 1/2" tubes rigged on 1/8 oz inserted jig heads; 5" GYCB Single Tail Grubs and Rapala X-Rap (XR08, GGH, Pearl). You will only need 1 spinning rod and 1 back-up. Line diameter and visibily makes a difference, trust me. Nothing more than 8 fluorocarbon, but I would probably fish #4 Hybrid original formula (.009" diameter, 8.5 lb test). Take plenty of jig heads and tubes, you will hang-up a lot and they are very difficult to retrieve in a canoe. The grubs are fished on a steady retrieve, so you won't lose many of them. Good luck! 8-)

Hmm... I guess that got your attention! Bay Springs isn't much further from where I fish. If you guys get together, maybe you can squeeze me in.

Oops! If Whitten is targeting them, there must others, too. It seems that we found them schooling at the mouth of a tributary creek in June last year or the year before. There were three of us in the boat so we kept 15, but probably caught 25-30 apiece. Amazingly, every fish came from the same cookie cutter, the size of each fish did not vary more than a few ounces. So, I'm busted...I have fished for them, too. I suspect Mike Whitten's interest is for tournament fishing, especially on a slow day. Kentucky bass count and although you're chances of a big fish are slim, they seem to be found in schools. Quick limit? Makes sense to me. 8-)
