New rod - suggestions for uses
I have the EC70MHF which I use to fish Mattlures Baby Bass and 3/4 oz. Ledge Buster Single Blade Spinnerbaits. I think you will find this stick to be a fine jig and soft plastics rod, too! 8-)

Help me to understand differences in line please
I don't really know because we have a lot of great sticks on this forum that fish Trilene XL, XT and Big Game. What I like about the copolymers is better line mangement and lower visibility. 8-)

Fly Fishing for Bass
Let's take a minute to reflect on what catching that fish must have been like. Good Lord, that's a big smallie! Well, kinda like this, but with a happy ending! http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1226342926

Fly Fishing for Bass
The World Record Smallmouth was caught on Dale Hollow by David Hayes in 1955. It weighed 11 lbs 15 oz. 8-)

Fly Fishing for Bass
I have never caught a steelhead, but the White River in north central Arkansas produces a lot of trophy size brown trout. I assure you, once a brown reaches 5 lbs, it is significantly stronger than a comparable smallmouth. A couple of years ago my 79 year old dad had an estimated 15-20 brown trout on for 45 minutes. The fish jumped 8 times and we got it (almost) to the boat 5 times before it was able to wrap around the motor and break free. There aren't many (any?) freshwater fish that put up a fight like that. 8-)

St. Croix Premier - I shoulda listened to Muddy
The_Natural, Thank you for a pleasant response to a rather aggressive post. However, although you may have been mistaken about the guides used on the Premier, that does not change the fact that you are in fact, an expert. We appreciate your participation and all of the helpful advice you contribute to this Forum. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Administrator

Welcome aboard! You have a very nice collection, too! 8-)

Left-handed casting?
"Wrong side" retrieve reels are readily available these days. However, traditional retrieve is functionally much better: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1187794805 8-)

Help me to understand differences in line please
Copolymers float, but has no impact whats-so-ever on any technique or presentation. All of the brands tend to blend well with water and many, especially in smaller diameters, are virtually invisible. Perfect examples are P-Line CXX, Gamma and Yo-Zuri Hybrid (original formula). 8-)

Shimano core baitcaster
I have no idea why the Core you tested made any noise, but I can assure you, that is not the norm. Strong, smooth, silent and reliant describes this reel. 8-)

Help me to understand differences in line please
Copolymer lines are generally stonger for a given diameter, stretch less, have somewhat better sensativity and are more abrasion resistant than comparable monofilaments. 8-)

Shimano core baitcaster
Although I would rate the Core 10/10, the CH50MG on sale is a great reel and a much better value. I bought my Core NIB from our Flea Market for around $230, but that was special. At any rate, you will love the Core's size, weight, performance and it's beautiful! 8-)

More suggestions for even more forums, so all ourneeds are met
What would you think about including a couple of other brands and renaming the new Forum? Zebco, Flooger and Quantum: Support Forum For Disposable Reels I don't think we need to point out that all suggestions in this new forum also apply to "house brands".

Medium heavy rod OK for frog fishing??
Hey guys, c'mon! This has been a very informative and I think, helpful thread. We don't have to be unpleasant to disagree. I don't fish braid, but probably would if I fished more thick vegetation. The ability of braid to cut through weeds and such is a major selling point. This is something I rarely encounter and get buy with using my "normal" baitcasting line. Still, braid is probably the better option. 8-)

WINTER TIME BAITS
The Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake are neither small nor murky in the winter. This is the best time of year to target smallmouth. I didn't have a lot of luck with artificails last Saturday, but we have been doing alright drifting minnows on a split-shot rig. More generally, jigs and soft plastics work for largemouth year-around on my local ponds. I think they work everywhere if the water's not hard. 8-)

Quality vs. Quantity

What would you do in my shoes?
Find out who the owner is and get permission to fish. BassResource.com does not support any activity that is prohibited by law. Trespassing is a criminal offense. This thread is closed. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

Snaps???
After fishing with Bud and CJ on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, I use snaps on most hard baits. I do not use them with soft plastics, jigs, buzzbaits, Mattlures Baby Bass or frogs. 8-)

Fly Fishing for Bass
Darn... The best response on this thread was sent to me by a man who apparently want's to remain anonymous. Thirty-six years ago he caught a 19+ lb bass on a fly rod. Maybe he will see my post and decide to tell us all about it, but either way, I stand corrected! 8-)
