  1. Rod choices are based on weight and technique, it has nothing to do with "smallmouth".
  2. I use a Palomar knot for single Hooks Duncan (Also know as a Pitzen and 16/20) for treble hooks Alberto knot for leader
  3. Well, I'm not trying to argue with Mr. Parker, one of the worlds greatest bass fisherman of all time, but some lakes are different. Most of the reservoirs built on the Tennessee River do not have a thermocline although Kentucky Lake might be an exception. Our river system is commercial and has some current all the time and a great deal of current some of the time. The water is aerated by electricity producing turbines on the bottom of each dam. River water is "churned" throughout the system. During the summer and especially right now, the best fishing is on ledges. Last Saturday all of our bass were caught on the upstream drop of a trench in 19' of water. The bottom was virtually flat then dropping to 25". The trench is approximately 100 yards long by 20 yards wide.

  6. On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date. -- Martin, age 10
  7. Lighter line is what I recommend. #4 or #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Seaguar InvizX on spinning tackle. The rigging is weightless and weedless using a #4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook. I fish Troker, Gamakatsu and Daiichi X-Point. Pick your favorite color, but I ONLY fish the GYCB Senko. Another alternative is the Magic Lure.

  9. Lots of choices out there, but #25 monofilament would NOT be one I would recommend. A specific suggestion would be #12 Seaguar AbrazX.

  12. Hmm... For me, the vast majority of strikes on both jigs and soft plastics occur when the bait is lifted off the bottom, NOT on the fall.
  13. The reel will be fine for just about anything except deep cranking and The Rig.
  14. My suggestion would also be deeper water.
  15. Several advantages of using a fluorocarbon leader: Abrasion resistance Ability to break-off when needed Less visibility Regarding the color of the braid, pick your favorite. I don';t think it makes any difference at all.
  16. Perhaps unnecessary...I fish a split shot rig with a #4 or #6 Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hook. To rig the minnow run the hook through the lower lip and up through the nose. The minnow will stay alive and active. I would recommend using a thin, strong line such as Yo-Zuri Hybrid #4 (8.5 lb breaking strength) or #6 (11.95 lb breaking strength).
  17. Reduce the braking to two and play with the spool tension which for me is just above where the spool begins to wobble. Remove the side plate and adjust the brakes manually. I am fishing #12 Tatsu on a custom 7'2" MF rod. Maximum distance with a 1/2 oz jig and Rage Tail Lobster is around 40 yards.
  18. Good night Irene.
