G. Loomis Introduces New E6X Rod Series
These two rods cover most of what you need as far as baitcasters are concerned: E6X 853C JWR-- The do it all, medium-heavy casting rod designed to fish medium-sized soft plastics, soft-plastic jerkbaits, 1/4 to 1/2-ounce jigs and even big topwaters. The extra length (7'1") increases tip-speed, which in turn, extends your casting range, helps you recover line quicker and is a big help with hooksets. A great alternative for fishing 4-5" hollow belly swimbaits., and also just a great all around casting rod. E6X 843C CBR-- A 7’ one-piece rod designed to throw small to medium-sized crankbaits. It’s a great choice for square bills and will handle big bass, yet it's light enough to fish all day long with minimal fatigue, providing maximum accuracy and control. E6X technology allow us to make it soft enough for the bass to engulf the bait with plenty of reserve power to bring that fish-of-a-lifetime to your boat!

Quick Glass Rod Question
All treble hook lures. I think the tip is too soft for single hooks. I have a Lamiglas SR705R which is my primary rod for deep crankbaits.

Rod And Reel
For medium weight lures, MF or MHF If you want to throw big swimbaits you will need heavier equipment.

Got Snow?
A few weeks ago the weather service thought we might get some. We didn't, but they closed schools anyway! We have a slightly different problem. Spring is officially more than a month away, but my crocus are in bloom and the daffodils are 8" tall and developing heads.

What Size Spinning Reel?
2500 is my recommendation. I see no reason for additional line capacity on a spinning reel. Heck, 30%-50% of the line I have on mine is backing!

So Do We Have Any Members Here That Are Against Vaccinations For Their Kids?
After hearing Terry Bradshaw's story, I recently got my shot. I had the flu in 1972 and have had a shot every year since. Children should be protected with every vaccination available. The rest of you should, too.

W And M Brent Chapman Insight Pro Advantage Rod
Just became by 5 year olds new practice bait caster. Well, I guess that makes sense, but I find it odd that none of the guys that bought the rods last year really followed up with anything positive to say. At any rate, I'm sure it will work out fine for you child.

What Lure(S) To Use For Inactive River Smallies
Sworming Hornet/ LFT Live Magic Shad. Cast, then keep your rod tip up and reel quickly without pumping the rod. Let the bait fall on slack line. When it settles to the bottom, repeat. 100% of your strikes will be on the fall.

Best Action And Power Baitcaster
This is one of the new G.Loomis being introduced: E6X 853C JWR-- The do it all, medium-heavy casting rod designed to fish medium-sized soft plastics, soft-plastic jerkbaits, 1/4 to 1/2-ounce jigs and even big topwaters. The extra length (7'1") increases tip-speed, which in turn, extends your casting range, helps you recover line quicker and is a big help with hooksets. Swimbaits
Shadalicious (shad) and Berkley Hollow Belly (chartreuse) on a weighted hook. Cast and rertrieve at various depths. The paddle tail provides all the necessary "action". Keitech Swing Impact Fat 3 1/2" or 4" rigged on a Buckeye Jig Head. Same cast and retrieve as above. In all cases the key is fishing on or around structure and cover.

Black Max Reels
I would NEVER question your results, they certainly speak for themselves. You are an accomplished fisherman and respected member here.

10.5" Worm
My most productive worm presentation for smallmouth is the 6.5" GYCB Kut Tail rigged on a MegaStrike ShakE2

Black Max Reels
Why settle for a "decent cheap reel" when you could buy a "gently used" GREAT reel for about the same price or just a few dollars more? I see Shimano Citica offered quite often in our Flea Market for $65-$75. Here is another that lists for about $90 new, but with a little effort might be found on the internet in the $60 range: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/Pinnacle-Producer-LTE-review.html

Frog Imitations Questions
The Rage Tail Toad is VERY effective and can be rigged completely weedless. Rage Toad 1) The Rage Toad provides more splash and water movement than any other soft plastic Toad or Frog design. It is slightly less aggressive than the Rage Shad and excellent in both open water as well as over pads and grass beds. 2) The Rage Toad should be rigged on a 5/0 minimum EWG Superline hook. Insert the hook point in the nose of the Toad approximately 3/8 to ½ inch and bring it out under the toad’s chin. Push the hook completely thru turning it over so that the point of the hook is pointing towards the bottom of the Toad. Leave the eye of the hook slightly exposed in the tip of the nose. Re insert the hook completely thru the belly just ahead of the V between the Toads legs and lay the hook point and barb in the recessed back slot. Then push the point forward to skin hook in the front of the slot to make it totally weedless. Important to keep the nose and bottom of the Toad in its original keel or boat shape so that it will plane out on the surface easily and run perfectly true. If hooked incorrectly, the Toad’s back will be bowed upward and the toad will flip over on its back during the retrieve. 3) You can also use a keel weighted hook for similar top water action and receive further distance in casting and/or wake bait swimming just below the surface. 4) When using screw lock hooks, you can go up on the hook size up to 5/0 and 6/0 as they allow the hooks eye to set more forward than a standard 5/0 EWG hook and won’t stretch out the overall length of the body. 5) Important – Pause a second after the strike to let the line tighten or let the fish load up on the Toad before setting the hook. Many times with top waters on the original strike, the fish will try to cripple the bait then they will quickly turn and eat it. So this slight pause before setting the hook is recommended.

Weightless Texas Rigged Plastic
For most weightless soft plastics I prefer a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook (light wire).
