  1. The Sufix 832 is a fine braid, I am sure you will like the line. Oddly, that was exactly waht I was going to give you!
  2. A lot depends on how you are using the line. For short leader material nearly any fluorocarbon will do. I like Red Label just fine for this, but for longer leaders I prefer either InvizX or AbrazX. As a mainline my favorite is Tatsu for both spinning and baitcasting gear.
  3. Geez...Some of the information guys share is just amazing to me. I would never have thought of this.
  4. Another thing is that after a decade or more most guys have all the basics. So most of what we purchase are replacements for tackle and "new toys" when it comes to rods & reels. Every year most of us buy a few new or different lures, but regardless of the cost, it's generally not much in the scheme of things. The killer costs are boats, boat maintenance and tow vehicles.
  5. How could you forget?
  6. Man, it's cabin fever time... Okay guys, I get to read almost every post in every section of this Forum. To say some questions are redundant is redundant! We encourage new members to spend some time looking around the site, reading the fishing articles and watching our videos. If you really want to ramp up the learning curve, the articles and associated links will get you there faster than posts on the Forum. That being said, the Forum is based on give and take, questions and answers and in most cases opinion and bias. So, What's the best knot to tie the best lure to the best line on the best reel on the best rod? These questions will be asked again and again. You have ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION to respond, just move on. For stuff you care about, interaction on the Forum should be fun. Let's try to be a little more courteous and gentle. -Kent
  7. Braid with a leader answers a lot of questions.
  8. She just wanted him to pick up a few things for dinner.
  9. Let's get together, I have some braided line you can try. I really don't think spooling should be all that technical. Fill half the spool with cheap mono, the rest with braid. If the reel has a shallow spool put on less backing.
  10. Not polarizing at all. My wife...well let's just say she is from Venus and I am from Mars. She loved the movie. Believe it or not, American Sniper is nearly a Chick Flick! The audience was almost exclusively couples.
  11. No, not in my experience. Comparing same brand rods and comparable pricing points, the quality is the same. As a specific example of rods I own, the G.Loomis PR844S and PR844C appear to be built with identical blanks.
  12. AWESOME... When the movie ended the crowd rose from their seats to applaud...AWESOME! :usa-flag-89:
  13. That's a fact, but I'm dying for the new Stella first.
  14. The whole point is, you don't NEED technique specific gear to fish most presentations. For some it is just MORE FUN to have the perfect rig. I think a few lure classes require special gear if you are going to spend a lot of time fishing that way. Deep diving crankbaits, big swimbaits and The Rig come to mind.
  15. Thanks for all the replies to my question. You guys are the best! Beautiful reels, too.

  17. Pete-K and I had a LARGE time, but the fishing was slow. We started off with a couple of 2-3 lb brown fish, then a complimentary dumb-dumb. Next drift Pete picked up a nice smallie so we kicked that skunk out of the boat! We were fishing the shallow side for a few more drifts then moved down river to some of Pete's special spots. The structure was great, but we couldn't get the fish to cooperate. After an hour or so we motored back up river and fished the buoys. The bite was soft and the fish would not commit. We picked up a couple more brown fish including one that we initially thought was a MONSTER! When the fish came up we were both going crazy. I wish it had gotten off, I know it would have been at least 7 lbs. To finish the day Pete drove us up near the dam where we managed to catch a couple of cats, but no smallmouth. The last fish of the day was one heck of a workout, a 10+ blue on spinning tackle spooled with #4 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. So, all and all a very enjoyable day with my gracious host, Pete-K. Thanks buddy! p.s. The fish are fat from the shad kill which is almost, but not quite over
  18. Hmm... Have you ever actually fished with The Rig?

  20. Siebert Outdoors Storm Series. 1/2 oz Arky, 5/0 hook, Roadwarrior. http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/Storm-Series-Jig-409.htm?productId=13
  21. Your jig rod will be fine, you don't need dedicated gear to occasionally fish anything. If you decide to spend more time with a technique, that's when the perfect gear becomes appealing.
