  1. Here in the Mid South we are in a period of tropical rain, over 4" in the last 24 hours and a foot or more the past week with more on the way! This morning I had a window of opportunity so I ran over to a local pond. I have caught a couple of fine fish here this week, so I was not discouraged by the high murky water. Today's gear was G. Loomis GLX MBR 844C/ CTE200GT/ Tatsu #20/ 7" Senko (watermelon with black flakes) and a Trokar 5/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook. On the 6th cast I hooked up with a monster which hung herself up in rocks on a ledge. I let her have a little slack and she was strong enough to free herself from the entanglement, then run towards the middle of the pond. Initially I assumed this was the prize I had recently caught and released, but the fight that developed was completely different. The fish stayed down and pulled hard consistently rather than in spurts. This was another fish and MUCH heavier! The Good I felt the Tatsu being pulled through the rocks and not just casually. Still, constant, unrelenting pressure was required by me. The fish pulled drag, but I had full confidence in my setting. This was some fish, but I had not yet seen her. Tatsu is THE BOMB and the rest of my equipment performed flawlessly. The Bad When I finally got this fish to the bank she was hooked in the belly on the right side. Part of the weight I had been fighting was attributable to being pulled sideways. The runs were unencumbered by the hook-set and she was still red hot when I landed her. Unfortunately, during the fight she morphed into a blue cat. The Ugly Releasing this flopping monster from the bank with a 6"-8" drop was a bear. I'm trying to grasp the hook with pliers, holding line and the rod in my other hand. The fish is still in 6" of water and doing everything she can to escape. I finally secured the hook, but she continued to twist and another fight ensued. To many balls in the air... POP! My 844C is now an 838. I have used the Xpeditor Service before, but not since it has been changed. I will report how this goes later.
  2. Stay off Stick Marsh at night, it is too dangerous and the bugs will eat you to death.
  3. From the Home Page: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/okuma-helios-tcs-rod-reel.html
  4. Had some luck with the Rage Blade recently: white skirt, Eeliminator trailer
  5. If cost is of no concern, Tatsu is the finest fluorocarbon I have fished. Otherwise, Seaguar InvizX for spinning tackle and AbrazX for baitcasting. I recommend the the Duncan Knot, also know as the Pitzen and 16-20 http://www.animatedknots.com/duncan/
  6. My swim jig trailers are: Rage Tail Menace, Shellcracker and Grub. I also like the GYCB Swimming Senko (back half)
  7. The Zebco Omega is a pretty nice reel.
  8. Call me "Old School". I like Jack.
  9. Trailer: Rage Tail Eeliminator. Trim the sides of the body for a streamline profile.

  14. Hmm... Knuckle buster, no level wind, 2 bearings, 3.5:1 gear ratio and weighs nearly 2 lbs (30 ounces). I suppose at the base the commonality is it retrieves line.
  15. Ooooh...That has smallmouth written all over it!

  17. Well, I have had good luck with The Bug Rage Rigged and T-rigged. I have a prefernce for the Rage Rig in the local ponds just because it avoids the gunk growing on the soft bottoms better.
  18. Spinning gear: #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Baitcasting tackle: #12 Hybrid

  20. I am VERY happy with Siebert, NorthStar and MegaStrike jigs. These three BassResource sponsors take a great deal of pride in building all of their products. I have had great success with all of their products, including their jigs.
  21. Thanks Bobby, that's a GREAT deal!
  22. The MegaStrike StrikeBack Spinnerbait is a winner. http://www.megastrike.com/#!products/vstc2=strikeback-spinnerbait Great review!
