  1. Wow! This is one of the most interesting/ bizzar threads I have ever read on the Forum. It's so surprising particularly considering some of the members that have posted. I think the positive spin is making a list of "Challenges for 2014". Part of it might be seasonal. Here in the Mid South it is early spring with water temperatures +/- 45*. The hot baits are Red Eye Shad, Square Bills, Jerkbaits, The Rig and apparently the Rapala DT6. If these are on your list and you want to bring them into play, NOW is the time here and shortly further north.
  2. Well, I hope someone in our group catches a bigger fish. There is the potential for a World Record. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/smallmouth_record.html
  3. Here ya go: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/128588-pinnacle-review/ MSRP for the rod: $160
  4. I don't have a clue, you didn't say what length your new rod was.
  5. Go to the RoadTrip thread at the top of this section. Jack caught a "Fish Of A Lifetime" on Wilson a couple of weeks ago.
  6. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
  7. Maybe this will help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/13845-guaranteed-to-catch-bass/

  9. All the time, but especially for different seasons. Right now the hot lures around here are the Red Eye Shad, square bills, jerkbaits and The Rig. Of course I'm always going to have some jigs and soft plastics, too!
  10. Floating Smithwick Rogue
  11. I don't think you "need" anything. My next purchase would be something that was specific for one of my favorite techniques. For example, a jerkbait rig. Mine is an Avid AVC66MF with a soft tip/ Scorpion/ #12 Sunline Super Natural.
  12. Man, cabin fever is epidemic! We don't want to be like some other forums where tempers flare unchecked. This is an informative thread regarding reel brakes. Any misinformation may be corrected, but no one is going to die. Take a deep breath and a short break before posting again. I believe my earlier post is on spot. Please address this if I am incorrect: "Actually there are different weights. Clear or white are the lightest; pink are considered light and green is standard."
  13. I use #6 Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hooks exclusively when fishing live minnows on the Tennessee River. The bait can be taken down into the gullet and the hook will slide up and impale in the jaw joint 90% of the time. Gut hooks are rare, most of the remaining 10% is in the lip. The key to success is NOT SETTING THE HOOK. This will result in a miss as the hook is pulled out of the mouth of the fish. What is required is to raise your rod tip FORCEFULLY and maintain pressure. With this technique hook-ups will approach 100% and the fish cannot throw the hook.

  15. I like this rig: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/pinnacle-optimus-xlt-dhc-review.html
  16. Well guys, you know I'm a big fan of Loomis and St. Croix, but I am building a fleet of Pinnacle rods & reels. At $156 the rods are a TREMENDOUS VALUE! http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/pinnacle-optimus-xlt-dhc-review.html
  17. Well, for awhile we had a few ladies from the LBAA posting occasionally. We were really hoping they would stay active on the forum. They were treated well and generated a lot of response. Just don;t know what happened to all that.
  18. Other than depth and the retrieve speed, I don't "work" a swim jig. The action is all in the trailer. Here is one little hint that also applies to fishig The Rig: If you feel a little bump, keep reeling and maybe speed up. These "bumps" are baitfish following the lure, not bites. You will ALWAYS know when you get a strike!
  19. Shimano CTE200GT Strong, silent and reliant. I don't think there is a better fit for what you are looking for. I have one for sale in the Flea Market if you are interested.
  20. Any jig can be used, but what is called a swim jig has a slightly different head and the hook shaft is horizontal without any vertical slant. I prefer 3/8 oz and a trailer resembling a baitfish, not a craw. Examples are the Rage Tail Menace & Shellcracker, Single Tail Grub and paddle tail swimbaits.
  21. I hope to meet all you guys at this year's RoadTrip. Any thoughts on fishing Wilson around the 1st of May?
  22. Bottom contact is slow right now. The action is mostly jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits and The Rig.
