It's no wonder why there are so many lines to choose from. Look at all the comments here from guys we know and who pay a lot of attention to detail. Same line, different experiences. 8-)

Well, I had never fished one until last spring. Then after a few guys caught 140 smallmouth one day, I took a little more interest in the Baby Craw. I got more than my share on the RoadTrip and have been fishing them ever since. If you're not, you're cheating yourself! The first time I fished the MegaBug on Kentucky Lake I caught a 4-5 lb smallmouth and a few largemouth with ghoti. I've had pretty good luck with the bait all summer. In a few weeks I plan on feeding both these baits to my pet smallmouth. Chances are you're going to be hearing a lot more about the Baby and the Bug! :

If you go back far enough in this section, we have some threads written by sponsors that explain the whole process in great detail. Maybe I'll dig a few up and post them again. "What it's going to take" is a plan, lots of work and some success interacting with businessmen. Then what about the fishing part? Every pro I have met became a very good fisherman before they really focused on the dough. Work on your fishing skills and your people skills and money will find you!

Initially, I was impressed with the Trilene 100%. The line was very manageable. However, the Trilene broke very easily when hung-up and once (the last time) when I lifted a 2 1/2 - 3 lb bass by hand. I respooled, threw that and whatever was left of the filler spool away. Seemed to me that its Vanish heritage was still in play. The reason I gave Trilene 100% an "Okay for the price" is because I was using 10# test and I suspect 12# might make the grade. Still, I won't be fishing that line. 8-)

Two suggestions: Rage Tail Baby Craw, naked on a T-rig or split shot rig; or as a jig trailer GYCB Fat Ika, weightless & weedless 8-)

I can appreciate some of the positive comments, I don't doubt the benefits a bit, but wind has never been a friend of mine. I hate fishing in the wind.

Nope, greater abrasion resistance in the AbrazX formula is the defining feature. 8-)

Last fall I decided to try a few (new to me) lines. As some of you know, my brand recommendations have been Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft for years. These remain my preferred lines for most applications. The lines tested and still in use are the following: Power Pro (50/12), Trilene 100% (10 lb), Seaguar InvizX (#8) & AbrazX (#12),and recently, Tatsu #15. Power Pro: Well, I still hate braid! However, using braid (direct tie) has significantly improved my jig fishing. I would NOT recommend PP, but I will be looking at Fireline and Samurai. Trilene 100%: Third generation Vanish. Okay for the price, but I will never use it again. Seaguar InvizX: OUTSTANDING manageability on spinning tackle. Highly recommended. Seaguar AbrazX: Outstanding on baitcasting gear. Highly recommended. Seaguar Tatsu: Too expensive for everyday fishing. However, this is BY FAR the finest fishing line I have ever used. 8-)

A couple of locals told me 12" purple worms were producing some 7 & 8 lb bass from around 5:30 to dusk, but nothing after the sun goes down. I have not fished there in the evening, only mornings. 8-)

Almost all your fishing can be done with just one rod. Beyond that, you only "need" three rods: Spinning: 6 1/2' or 7', M or MH, Fast Action (soft plastics and light lures) Baitcasting: MH or H, Fast Action (jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and all single hooks) Baitcasting: MH, Moderate Action (all treble hook lures) The AVS68MXF is the spinning version; the AVC68MXF, baitcasting. Either rod could be considered "all around", but are targeted for single hooks. For treble hooks, the Avis AVC66MF is my choice for topwater and jerkbaits because it has a soft tip, but is still firm enough to work these lures easily. For medium weight crankbaits, my rod is a AVC70MM. Back to YOUR next rod: 68MXF, spinning or baitcasting. 8-)

Weight, please. Is this a custom or available for sale? Do you fish the same jig in other colors, too? When tipping, are you using live minnows, big, small or just complimenting the jig? We're still a couple of weeks away around here, but water temperatures have already dropped 10*. The "season" is just about to begin! BTW, I LOVE your fish. That is a classic pic! ;D ;D ;D

The Avid series uses a better blank, but they are not split grip. Avids are ~$180 MSRP. If you can buy one for about the same price as a Mojo, the Avid is a better buy. 8-)

I bought 1/4 & 1/2 oz Eco Pro Tungsten (black) and have been very impressed. I have never considered the weight to be much of a factor, but these weights have surprised me. Give tungsten a try and you may be surprised, too! 8-)

For live bait: PR844S. Technically this is a "popping rod". I find the soft tip combined with a stout lower third ideal for minnows fished on a split shot with octopus circle hooks. These hooks require a firm "lift" but NEVER a hookset. For weightless soft plastics, St. Croix ES70MF. This rod would be rated MH in most lines. The relatively stiff tip and 7' length allows for a powerful hookset. 8-)

Higher end gear will NOT turn a bad fisherman into a good fisherman, but it can make a good fisherman better. All the guys I know that fish with the high-end gear are "collectors". It has very little to do with "catching", but it makes "fishing" more fun! 8-)
