You may have put too much line on the reel. It needs to be filled to about 1/8" below the lip of the spool. Always close the bail by hand after you make a cast. After closing the bail pull the line tight on the reel and then start your retrieve.

I just take it out of the package and spool up my reels. I have never put it in water before using.

Zoom still makes a lot of soft plastics in this color. They call it pumpkin instead of pumpkinseed.

Thank you for posting this. This info was in the first spinning reel I bought almost twenty years ago. I wanted to post this but being a computer dummy I wasn't sure how to do it.

We are using ours for the same thing. Ordered from Academy Sports One morning. Got them two days later delivered by USPS. The ones we got were a bit more at about $25 each.

You will be much better off doing it the way I recommend in Glenns video than laying it on the floor. Keep some tension on your line as it goes on to the reel.

I have a line spooling station. The main thing is to have the spool in a vertical position with the line coming off the bottom of the spool. Glenn has a video on this in the rods and reels section of the videos.

We are supposed to get close to an inch of rain tomorrow. Then we go into a freeze warning tomorrow night with record low temp around 25*F. It will only be the third time in recorded history it has gotten in to the 20s in May around here. Some weather people are saying we might get some snow to go with it.

I recently got a couple in Buff brand. Ordered them from Academy Sports. One for me and one for my wife to wear. We are using them for face masks right now in this current situation. Have not gotten to use them for fishing yet. Have not had to wear them for a long period of time but they seem to be reasonably comfortable. They were about $25 each.

I have to agree with @Hulkster. I use Sufix Siege on spinning and baitcasting setups. I use 12# on baitcasters and 8# and 10# on spinning gear.

I saw some in a Wal Mart made out of tungsten. They were in the $40 to $50 price range. Maybe that will work for you as a fisherman.

I am in your camp. I like to stop and look around while I eat lunch. Think about what is working and what is not. Decide which setups need to put away or put different baits on. Maybe get out some different setups depending on where I will be fishing.

I have caught bass several times on a Texas rig while working out a backlash. Caught one a couple of years ago on a crankbait. Bass hit as soon as the bait hit the water. I had to work out the backlash before I could reel it in.

I absolutely agree with with GMan and the video. My longest rod is 6'6" and my fastest reel is a 6:8:1 or about 28 IPT. I have hated reel manufacturers for a long time for dropping the slower speed reels for the high speeds. I still have some 3:8:1 reels. Some people believe if they have to turn the handle more than three times to bring the lure in the reel is too slow.

When the problem turns out to be a bad light switch your adjustable wrench is worthless for this.

I am reliving my fishing time reading @Mobasser and @scaleface. I fished a lot with 5'6" rods, round ambassadeur 5000 reels, and 14# Stren line. Caught a lot of fish that way on Texas rigs, crankbaits and, spinnerbaits. They used to be all I used. I still have some 5'6" rods. It wouldn't bother me to put reels on them and use them again. Back to the original question I think the Texas rig is the best for catching fish and I use it every time I go.
