  1. Definitely have bent some without split ring pliers. It is easier- I sometimes wish That I shaved the "head" down so its thinner and fits in the smaller rings easier. I started adding 2 split rings on some bigger glide baits and definitely see the difference.
  2. My last one that was surviving had to be cut off when it was in my hand... No lie I was upset at the time- now I don't throw it as much.
  3. interesting- That treble was on the booyah one knocker- seriously caught every fish on that "one" hook. When ripping through weeds and burning it.
  4. I would add that the Bass will go where the bait is. I have caught bass while ice fishing in 12' water when there were 40' holes around as every fish is not in the deepest part (I kind of wish this was the way it was). If the fish can tolerate the temperature/oxygen level and a food source is near they can survive just fine.
  5. Very old post but HAS ANYONE Seen something like this?--- Not sure where hangers come in- or if he modded the box with some rod. Just not sure what it would look like on the outside edges. Anyone want to make me one?
  6. I was able to go out yesterday and try some new stuff out too! Outside temp was 39 and was was COLD I wanted to see how the 68 Hudd/Bucca's Bull Gill/ and S waver were all handled on the IRod Jr swim. I lasted an hour and ended up with 0 but love the action on the baits. My suggestion for right now would either be a Hudd or suspending jerkbait with LONG pauses- but your 65 degrees might get them moving a bit more.
  7. I did not- Best perch reports I have heard are in the slips but the jumbos are coming in- I do not fish them much since the lakefront is a bit of a drive for me and 3 kids (newest is 1 week old) keep me and my wife plenty busy while they cannot go outside too often.
  8. I got to head out in Chicago yesterday. Wind made it COLD but lake was open!
  9. Depends on what line (diameter) is going on top and what you are going to do with that particular reel.
  10. Yeah, I've had it in my cart a few times. I wasn't sure if you got it at a different site with some $ off been debating between that and a 4x4 knocker
  11. we can't be friends j/k Yeah, I am not completely opposite but definitely on the other side of things. I change up when I want my lure to run deeper/ shallower or if I want a floating line with stretch or without. Your method would definitely make things easier and will catch fish. But if I didn't do it who's back would the bait money jump on next.
  12. Thanks. Now time to research how much this is going to cost...
  13. I should have mentioned- talking about casting reels I do this already with my spinning rods/reels
  14. I am starting to get a few nicer rods and reels for my budget and am thinking about buying extra spools for them to be able to swap out the line. Issue is when I go from a nicer rod + reel to one of my cheaper+older ones I find myself not wanting to use it as much even tho it might have the line type/size I want on it. I was contemplating getting an extra spool for the reel(s) where the rod can double dip pretty easy. Just not sure its worth the time until I upgrade those rods and reels as well. Thoughts?
  15. Anybody get out over the holiday break? This weather may have taken the ice off near you? Maybe the next 3 days...
  16. with the smaller 2 oz and less baits you'll be fine with the 200 tranx
  17. Is there a good resource for you to identify all of the different species? TIA
  18. Yeah makes sense... I just wasn't sure if the weight is effected by the 2x,3x,4x hook as it is the same size but different strength. I would think that the hook weight is more important and should be put on packages...
  19. Wow... some really nice discussion here. Also being new to the swimbait game- With all of these hook options is it more important for the weight to be correct or the size? It seems like there are endless options in regards to- 2x, 3x, 4x, 38,41,56, and zo wire. Please let me know if I got this right: So the 2x,3x,4x are all just stronger than a like hook of the same gauge. The 38,41,56 is the gauge of the hook And finally Zo wire is 20% thinner than a standard hook at that gauge- is the zo wire 38 actually 20% smaller than a 38 or is it 38 size and 120% stronger? TIA
  20. I just called to get it done... They got it done over the phone.
  21. I thought it was a great price to take on for 2.50 or whatever, but I was concerned that it said it was made of 4 strand and 8 strand braid. Seeing as it was $2.50 I really did not care but since you guys already have experience with it- Is it 4 or 8 strand (the ebay version)? Thanks!
