That Time Of Year
Our last really local tackle shop is going out of business, so has had things discounted for a while. Unfortunately, they're primarily a pike/musky/walleye/panfish shop.

Xmas Present Request Issues
I'd settle for a PCA to watch the wife so I can get out on the local lakes more often.

Line Diameter - Are Bass that Wary?
Thicker diameter affects the action of the lure...that's probably what attracts the bass more with lighter line.

DIY - again
It's pretty basic 1x8 (what ever wood - nominal is 3/4"x7-1/2") Rip to 4" and 3-1/2" On the 4" wide piece, mark first drill spot 1-1/2" from long edge and 1-1/2" from one short edge...rest of holes are marked 1-1/2" from long edge and 3" from previous mark. This will give you 4 spots per 1' of length (mine is a 4', so 16 spots) Drill holes with 2" hole saw To back edge, mount some 1x1 so that 6" extends beyond the short edges On the 3-1/2" wide piece, mark drill spots along the long edge, 1-1/2" from one end and every 3" Drill pilot holes with 1/16" bit To back edge, mount some 1x1 so that 6" extends beyond the short edges Paint/stain to your desired color, then seal. I like water-based Spar Urethane for this, but any water based Polyurethane sealer will work. Into the pilot holes on the narrow piece - install small, brass cup hooks If you want (I did) get some narrow, sticky-back foam an put in the 2" holes on the wide piece. Drill pilot holes in the 1x1 - 1" from outer end, then 4" in from that. Mount to ceiling (or wall, the cup hooks work there as well. This shows it wall-mounted

I feel the pain, brother. 4 JDM reels, 3 Victory and 2 Mojo rods...and it'll be March at the earliest before I see open water again.

Spinning reel recommendations?
If that's what they've labeled 'Silentdrive'...um, the Miravel has it...new entry level point.

BR Unofficial 2nd annual FISHMAS raffle.
It's a good cause, man.

Spinning reel recommendations?
Both the Miravel and the Ultegra I picked up this year don't have it. Really only necessary if you're a back-reeler

40%!
Down on your luck? I've caught bass and northern on WP-90s on Tonka...maybe you're just not using them right.

Size 80 baitcaster
My CA-80 is on my flip/pitch rig...since you're not casting far, it's the perfect size for that.

This one is the Yak Attack LeverLoc...pulleys fore and aft, a couple line guides along the length.

If you don't want holes - then epoxy is the only way to go...and removing that is a pain-in-the-rumpus if you do decide to get rid of it. Sealing holes in polyethylene is relatively easy. When I put an anchor trolley on the old canoe - I just drilled the holes.

Backing on reels
Casting reels I use 10# Big Game for backing. Get yourself a line counter - even a cheap one like the Berkley I use Spool up your main line - 70yds or so, then fill the spool with the backing. Unspool to an empty, then transfer to another empty to reverse, then spool up the reel from that. That's the process I use on a new reel. When you change out line at the end of the season, just unspool to the connection knot (I use a double uni), then you can just put new mainline on...keep the backing, it really doesn't 'wear out'.

reel cleaning
Yep - even the braid that I'm gonna re-use next season gets taken off. I de-spool to empties...do the cleaning, then spool it back up.

B-Day Present
My wife is so good to me. For my birthday, she got me a heavy-duty PVC fitted boat cover with a center-pole (pole isn't here yet). This past year I'd been using a 8'x16' HD Tarp.

Warm gloves you can actually fish in.
Not that I know of - one job I worked, it was clean-room assembly. We had to wear nitrile gloves when 'on the floor'...so 6+ hours a day. I never had an issue even though just wearing latex gloves for an hour makes me break out in hives.

The latest sale thread
No - it's just that this year I have money for gear again - last year, 90% of my yearly budget went into the F-9 rebuild...this year I only got one thing I need to get for it.
