  1. I'm still working on my build - just finished the sub-floor and about to frame the main parts. Ball-park guess is that the final product will add about 100lbs to the original weight. That's with a raised casting deck, storage compartments, livewell (empty), etc. Using 1/16" aluminum 1"x1" angle is strong enough - check Tiny Boat Nation...that's what he uses on all his builds and what I'm using on mine.
  2. I would go aluminum angle framing and 5/8" BCX plywood sealed with Spar Urethane or 2-Part Epoxy. That seems to be the standard now-days for tiny boats - and what I'm using on my F-9 rebuild. DO NOT USE PRESSURE TREATED PLYWOOD. The chemicals they use react with aluminum and will corrode the hull. Place for ideas and looks at builds - https://www.tinboats.net/ - they have a forum that you can ask questions on and pictures/text of numerous builds.
  3. What I use... Flourocarbon: Seaguar Tatsu or InvizX Monofilament: Sufix Elite or Advance Copolymer: Yo-Zuri Hybrid
  4. Ya - I classify them with retention ponds in highway interchanges - storage of overflow water during heavy rains...but not something to fish.
  5. Aluminum - lighter. https://www.coremarkmetals.com/3003-h14-aluminum-flattened-expanded-metal
  6. Ya - Here's Sally as 'Hot Lips'
  7. My favorite REM song - mainly cause Kate Pierson is in it.
  8. For a moment I though you were from Minnesota.
  9. RIP Dr. Elizabeth Dehner
  10. non-sequitur - their facts do not compute.
  11. Mine is almost 3 months away - bass season closes in 5 days and we still have hard-water. Opens again the middle of May. So my first fish of 2022 will probably be a sunny or crappie.
  12. Course in the canoe - the only thing in the vest pocket was the battery for the shoulder-camera so that's what'll be in the pouch. Cargo pants are great for carrying things...and that's what I wear on the water. Phone, cigs, lighter in the extra pockets. Small pliers for hook removal and the line-snips on retractable badge holders clipped 'somewhere' on me.
  13. I picked up a hip-pouch at the local Renaissance Fair some years back - planning on using it as replacement for the pockets on my old vest as I'll be running an Onyx AM/24 in the boat.
  14. Oh good - I'll have my angles on Friday as well as some other stuff. Should be able to make significant progress on the F-9 once it gets above freezing.
  15. Sounds like it's gone downhill since I was last there. Three days for a software seminar...stayed in a hotel by Printer's Row...great Jazz clubs in the area. Course that was back in the early 90s...
  16. I don't go far from home - haven't hit Thorne Bros in years so I kind of forget what it's like anymore. Add to the fact that FF's prices are heads-and-tails better...and I'm on a tight budget.
  17. Toss up between Scheels in Eden Prairie, MN and Fleet Farm in Carver, MN. Both have large fishing sections, both have wide selection of rods/reels/lures. Both have bulk spool filling available. The Fleet Farm might edge the Scheels in one area - boat equipment. From seats to pedestals to anchors to covers - pretty much stem to stern for your boat. They also have a good selection of canoes and kayaks in stock.
  18. Got one as a gifting this Fishmass - if only I could afford to purchase them...really good boxes.
  19. No - just northern tier. Currently at almost 9am - sun is up and it's still -6 with a -21 wind-chill. Minnesota - what can you do.
  20. Right now it's not looking good - Accuweather's long range predictions show a fairly cool run the next month or so.
  21. Ouch... Here - today's high was all of 8 degrees. Victoria ( town just SW of me) recorded 5" of snow today. We're gonna have below-zero nights through Thursday, and highs in the single digits or low teens.
