Fish activity during heatwave.
My best bass fishing has been mid-morning to noon on hot, sunny days mid-summer. The one in my profile pic was caught about 10:30 AM on July 31 when the temps neared 90 for the high.

Line for lipless and medium cranks
I don't know why you couldn't keep the 14# Trilene on. But if you want to change - a good 15# or 17# flourocarbon. If you want to keep the price down, Seaguar Red label or InvizX would be my choices.

I think after seven years, he's either fixed the problem or moved on.

Considering a custom rod...
I have this in ML/MF which is rated up to 5/8oz and it's been a bang-up rod for light lipless/shallow cranks. It'd also make a pretty good finesse rod https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-OKUMARDS.html?from=basres Our own Delaware Valley Tackle - he does custom rods in addition to reel maintenance/repair.

Fiblink rods
With the only point of sale and way of contact with them being through their Amazon page - I'm a little wary. On the other hand, ReviewMeta (which filters Amazon reviews) doesn't ding them too badly. I wouldn't buy them - I'm happy with Diawa, Okuma and Dobyns - but if you want to try them and get back to us...

Critique my setups and recommend my next rod
Replace that with a Fury 702SF and you've got a great finesse rig. Rest of it looks just fine - and echoing RW on the 705CB... I have one with a Fuego CT 6.3 on it and it's a great crank rig.

To the best of your memory, what was the lure you caught your first bass on?
Gods I remember having one of those in my tackle box back in the 70s. Caught some perch with it, but never bass. IIRC, my first bass was on a Mepps Comet.

tangled spool when fishing wacky rig
^ This - I use spinning for a number of techniques, including weightless wacky and weightless T-Rig. You need some tension on the line when retrieving in order for the line to lay on the spool properly.

WRITING IS ON THE WALL
Darn - the interior of that looks like the 1962 Chevy C-10 I owned for a while when in high-school.

What size line?
A lot of it depends on how heavy the weeds are where you plan to cast. If it's not too thick, you can get by with 40#, if it's thick slop then go to 50# or even 65#. Here in MN, even the thickest weeds we get only need 50#, if you're down south where they get thicker go with the 65#.

Two months of property taxes on that would pay my entire year's bill.

Fishing on holiday weekends?
Did they get permission from the state to do that? I know in MN that if any water touches public land, the entire body is considered public water. Putting something like that up that prevents public access to the water without clearing it with the state is a big No-No.

Ya, I'll take a 'Puff' over a dozen modern tanks any day of the week

2021 Minnesota Fishing Season
I got no choice in the matter. Between the gear in the canoe and my age/lack of fitness...I gotta use a ramp for the trailer it sits on.

2021 Minnesota Fishing Season
Ya, my next planned outing is Tuesday - maybe tomorrow early if I'm up...couldn't get me on the water during the main part of the day on a weekend/holiday if you paid me...just too many idiots in high-powered boats.

Gone in 60 seconds
Gods, that reminds me of something me and a friend did when I was in the Air Force. We hooked up the Infinity speakers from his home system to his car's system that had some mongo amps. Put them facing up in the back seat of his '67 Dart GT convertible with the top down. Drove around downtown Omaha, NE at 2am blaring 'Flight of the Valkyries' at full volume - about 110-120db. The looks we got from the streetwalkers was hilarious.

Memorial Day 2021 ~
- waiting for winter to end so i can fish again
I had planned on going out tomorrow - but launching the canoe and getting my feet wet when it's supposed to be under 40 at sunrise...um, no...I'll wait. Lucky - it's 45 right now in the west Metro.- Braid to flouro leader problem
I initially did the double-uni for braid-to-leader, but as said it's not the best. I've moved to the FG, and it's not as hard as it may look. Just have to have the right instructions...this is the method I use now and I get consistently tight, thin, strong knots.- Winter fishing zoom call series
We'll miss you, but rest (sometimes) is more important. Hope to see you next time.- WD40 as fish attractant.
Ya - polluting the water. WD-40 is made from petroleum distillates - closely related to gas, oil, kerosene - they don't want people who think it does work as an attractant polluting up those streams.- Life Vests-Auto Only or Auto/Manual
With the old-style 'moisture sensing' triggers, this is true. Still find those on cheap inflatables. Better ones use (as Mr. Franco said) hydrostatic triggers. These respond to an increase in pressure, not water. Water pressure increases by a little over 1psi for every 2-1/4 feet you go down. The hydrostatic triggers go off when a certain pressure change is exceeded. You could submerged them in a bathtub and they won't go off - put them in a pressure chamber and raise the pressure a couple PSI and "BANG" no matter how dry it was in there.- Garmin Echomap guys
That, I don't know. - waiting for winter to end so i can fish again
