I would say no...it's snagged, not caught - despite how it got close to the boat.

Idiot passes by close to you at speed, wake rocks your boat enough to toss you out...almost had that happen to me a couple times on Tonka back in my 14' Runabout. Doesn't have to be bad weather. It's over the 26' limit so it doesn't fall under the new law.

Better check on it then...might need to add a clip to be legal.

They're now saying that if it's a lanyard type, 'use it' means it's attached in a way that if you're tossed overboard it kills the engine. I don't think 'dangling in reach' is valid anymore.

Ya - states could have their own requirement, and MN was similar in some respects. Now it's country-wide.

I think the big item is that tiller motors now have to have them...before then, having a cut-off was optional for any boat. I know the 40hp runabout I had years ago didn't have one and a friend's 17'/75hp tri-hull didn't have one either.

" "The law applies to "Covered Recreational vessels" which means any motorized boat with 3 or more horsepower that is less than 26 feet in length and takes effect on April 1, 2021." https://uscgboating.org/recreational-boaters/engine-cut-off-devices.php Seems to not matter if it's a 21' with a 200hp or a 14' Jon with a 10hp tiller...if it was built Jan 1, 2020 or later it must have one installed. Older boats with one installed requires the owner to use it as well, but you don't have to retrofit one in if it wasn't equipped at the factory.

I may do it next year - if I remember to save some money for it. Got a couple old reels and a couple 'junky' rods sitting around gathering dust.

Bags go into Plano 3607-10 open compartment boxes. Each box labeled with the type; stickbait, craw, fluke, etc. Boxes go into a pair of Cabelas/BPS Advanced Angler II bags - each bag can hold 7 boxes. Those tuck under the rear seat of my canoe.

Ran an errand today and the ice on Tonka is getting dark. Might beat my prediction of the 12th by a bit. Just a couple things left on the canoe, spool up the BCs and I'm ready to go - though I gotta wait until 5/15 before I can target bass.

One of the mods I've done this winter - changed out a set-point anchor on the canoe for an anchor trolley.

Same here, though I do try new ones. Started with original Power Pro and still use that on my heavy BC rig for tossing into the slop. 832 on one BC and my MH spinning rig. Got a gift of hi-vis Smackdown that I'm using with leader on my main finesse rig this year. We'll see how things go.

Ya - or a place that ships fairly inexpensively. I'm lucky that I have several local suppliers I can pick from...got mine from Cormark - which has another location in Fort Worth, TX (just an FYI)

That's what I did with the canoe trailer - changed out the 5' front length for a 10'. 2"x3" 16gauge was $60. Matched up the front and rear ends, marked and drilled the holes and voila - 10' trailer became a 15' trailer for my 14' canoe.

I've had smart-phones for a number of years now (Galaxy S-4 for 6 years - upgraded to a Galaxy A-51 last year) and never installed any anti-virus software. As my local compatriot says - be sensible in your use and it's a non-issue.

If indeed there was a problem with the boat and he launched anyway - then yes, this lawsuit is entirely appropriate...though the amount may be a bit much.
