  1. Currently, my lighter crankbaits are tossed on a spinning rig - President XT-30 mounted on an Okuma Stratus VI MH/MF. A Shad Rap 05 is about the bottom limit for the rod though, so looking at replacing the rod with an Okuma Reflections ML/MF (1/8-5/8 lure rating) for my lighter cranks.
  2. Only categorization I do for my PBs is by species. I don't care where I caught them, just that I caught a good fish.
  3. Every box of hard-baits I have has 3-4 of these in one of the compartments. https://www.amazon.com/Desiccant-Moisture-Dehumidifiers-Corrosion-Prevention/dp/B01MZ4ZQ3Z/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=silica+gel+packs&qid=1614349600&sr=8-5
  4. Ya, my latest order of some Cals had that message for four days after hitting Minneapolis hub. Finally arrived yesterday.
  5. Well, personally I'm to old and unfit to cart my canoe much less go into the wilderness anymore. So my canoe is trailered and I launch at boat ramps...so I can afford to put all that 'extra stuff' on it. Lakes I fish around me, 1/2 mile from shore max. Also, I never remove my PFD and I don't go out when the wind/waves is going to be an issue. Yep - if a kayak is for you...go for it. It's not for me - I'll keep my heavily modified canoe, thank you.
  6. I stand in my canoe to pitch or long cast all the time...it's called outriggers.
  7. I swear - after I finish this years mods, I'm posting a vid showing off everything.
  8. It's a 14' Sun Dolphin Scout SS (SS is for Square Stern) Also sold as the Field and Stream Scout (sold at F&S and Dicks) - same canoe, just a different name-plate. Sun Dolphin also has a 15' model called the Mackinaw SS
  9. Ya...one of my major mods was taking out the original plastic seats and replacing them with 2x12s supported on 2x2 aluminum angles - which use the original seat mounting holes. That gave me the under-seat area for tackle bags and the battery up under the bow seat. Pre-mod shot showing the original seats
  10. There are so many different ways to rig a canoe that it's scary. Three examples from people here. @Goose52 @Fishing Rhino Mine - inspired by the previous two, but taken a different direction.
  11. It's ending here in MN - finally.
  12. Oh good luck on that one. Three years ago I thought to myself, 'three rigs and a single 3600-size tackle bag with seven boxes is more than enough'. Now I have 13 rigs (3 dedicated shore, the rest for the canoe), two 3700-size bags (11 boxes) and two 3600-size bags (14 more boxes).
  13. I don't think I could ever use a kayak...I like the fact that I can take up to 12 rigs, 4 tackle-bags and a cooler with me on the canoe...and still have room to move around. Ya, being able to launch at 'unimproved' places would be a bit of a plus. but there's plenty of lakes around here with launches, so it's not that big of a deal. Besides; at my age/fitness level, carrying a kayak is not in the cards.
  14. I did better this time 49 13 86 24 86
  15. This is normal now-days. I had a package shipped from Rapala - which the warehouse is 10 miles from me - and it took over a week with no updates. On the other hand - a shipment from FishUSA - halfway across the country - took 3 days. It's a crap-shoot.
  16. I get a kick out of Thrift having more scoreable fish than Omori (2nd) and Evers (3rd) combined
  17. What I use for punching... Bait - large craws, beavers or magnum size worms Hook - Straight-shank flipping hook for the worms, superline EWG for the craws and beavers Weight - 1/2oz+ pegged bullet weights - weight dependent on thickness of cover
  18. Ya - the new model Pflueger Trions have eliminated the switch as well. Just waiting for that to creep up the product line.
  19. I'll try new spots - between ice-out and season-open this year I'll be doing mapping with my Striker 7cv...there's some spots I've located on on-line maps that look good. Season opener - thoroughly try those spots out...if they bomb - go back to where I've caught before.
  20. Not open ice - since the ice will be gone weeks before season opens - so I'll open the season with... 1: Jerkbait 2: Lipless crank 3: Swim Jig
  21. Fish USA has filler spools in 4, 6, 8, 17, 20, &25 in clear, everything but 14 in lo-vis Green.
  22. I don't think my adjustment was that huge - but at 14 I went from east-coast big city life to small northern MN town. Bemidji, MN was the largest 'city' in 90 miles and was smaller than the 'neighborhood' I grew up in...12,000 in Bemidji, 18,000 in Greendale/Worcester, MA Quite an adjustment for a teen... Grew to love it though.
  23. Let us know how it goes - I'm looking to spool up my spinning-crank rig with 10# for the lighter cranks/jerks my FR705CB can't toss well.
  24. I tried Berkley FC a few years ago - hated it and turned away from FC all together. Got a gifting of Tatsu and AbrasX - Tatsu will be mainline, AbrasX will be leader for braid rigs. Purchased some 6# InvizX for the Ultra Finesse rig - that's why I was wondering about KVD on that.
  25. Which means I gotta get off my butt and get working on the canoe to have it ready. Got a couple things to install and a couple more to change from the current setup.
