Daily carry all around bass rod
St Croix Mojo Bass has 6'8" and 7'1" in medium and medium heavy that come in a 2-piece. Toss your SLX on that and you're good to go.

Newb alert: Is a baitcaster really a fast retrieve than a spinning reel?
Just downsize the already (for years) available dual-speed salt water reels. Shimano has a couple models, so does Diawa...other brands too probably.

I thought I said that.

Newb alert: Is a baitcaster really a fast retrieve than a spinning reel?
Tom's probably talking circumference rather than diameter as the distance around the spool affects IPT. +3/8" diameter is +1.18" circumference.

Newb alert: Is a baitcaster really a fast retrieve than a spinning reel?
Oh - one other thing to mention. The higher the gear ratio, the less power the reel has. So hauling in a big fish on that 9-ratio reel is going to be more work for you than bringing it in on the 6-ratio.

More examples Baitcaster: KastKing Speed Demon 9.3:1 gear ratio - 39.1 Inches per turn of the handle on a full spool Spinning: Pflueger Supreme-40 6.2:1 gear ratio - 38.6 inches per turn. Not much of a difference and one you really won't notice that much.

First Baitcaster Advice
Makes me happier that I got a pair of Furys rather than holding out for Sierras.

Spinning reels just aren’t fun anymore
If it's a 1"x1" - pretty slow. If it's a 4"x12" - quite a bit faster.

Who sells/makes the best line cutter?
Smaller one - I guess it depends on how much you use it. I only get out (max) once a week, so I'm not using it hard. One thing I did do - the auto-retract on it failed, so I modded it to use a heavy-duty 'badge holder' in it's place. Little work to get it to attach, but nothing horrible.

First Baitcaster Advice
I use Power Pro Spectra on my heavy rig for flip/pitch/frogs but on my MH for spin/chatter/buzz/jigs I'm using 40# Sufix 832

new tow vehicle
I know how you feel. 14' square-stern canoe on a modified PWC trailer - all total with the battery and TM on it, weighs maybe 400#. Towing with a Silverado extended cab 4x4, 5.3l V-8 with the towing package (11,000lb max-tow capacity). My truck also doesn't notice that it's towing anything.

Expanding My Lures
I use a leader with chatters, but it's not necessary. Cranks I toss on a different rig that's got Yo-Zuri Hybrid on it...I'd consider a leader there as well for shock-absorption.

Expanding My Lures
Try to match the color to the conditions - darker color for cloudy days, dawn and dusk; brighter for sunny days; natural (frog, bluegill) anytime. I like to run my WPs over submerged weeds where the weed-tops are only a foot or so below the surface. Caught bass and northern on them You putting a trailer on them? I like something with bulk - Berkley Pit Boss, Berkley Chigger Craw, Zoom Ultra Vibe Chunk. A trailer can really entice the bass in more than just a bare lure. If you got sonar, find where the fish are hanging out then pick the crank designed to hit that depth. Bouncing squarebills off the bottom or those submerged trees is always good. Running them alongside weed-lines can also be a hit. Colors - same as the WPs...though most of my crank-catches have been on 'natural' colors that imitate the local forage...mostly Perch pattern here with Bluegill a second place finisher. Another thing to try is let that chatterbait sink into the hole, then retrieve it back.

Who sells/makes the best line cutter?
I'll double-down on the Boomerang - I'm on my second year and it cuts everything from my 4# YZH to 50# Power Pro quickly and neatly.

Crankbait setup questions
I dunno about 'deep-deep' but I toss anything from Jointed-Shallow Shad Raps (3'-5' running depth) to Deep-Down Husky Jerks (7'-16' running depth) without problems.

Is my line too heavy?
40 yard casts on a spinning reel isn't hard to do...I do 40-50 yard casts with my Trion-30 (next one down from the Pres) without trying too hard. If I 'bomb' it...80-90 yards isn't out of the question. I'd seriously consider contacting them - they might send the 10# without asking for the 40# back - then put that 40# on the BC.

The latest sale thread
Our DSG removed the hunting section, moved the kayaks/canoes there, and actually added a couple rows of fishing gear. With the closest Cabelas being 40 minutes away, Scheels 30 minutes and Sportsmans Warehouse 40-50 minutes, our DSG I think is going to keep the fishing section. Local shop 10 minutes from DSG is small and mainly caters to the walleye/northern crowd.

Is my line too heavy?
Well, using the line calculator - you'd only be able to spool up about 40 yards...so long casts will empty the spool https://www.pattayafishing.net/fishing-reel-line-capacity-estimator/
- light spininng ¿daiwa crossfire rod vs berkley cherrywood hd?
-
Is my line too heavy?
Ya, 40# braid is much too heavy for a spinning reel...especially a Pres-30 which is a 2500 size spool. I'd contact the seller via e-mail...maybe they'll fast-ship you the line you actually ordered.

What Have We Become ?
I'm a cheap sucker (read 'limited funds'). While I do have two braid-equipped reels, for leaders I use the same 12#YZH that's the mainline on two other reels.
-
What Have We Become ?
Another reason I love the $11/600yd YZH - use the KVD, but it still works out to be less expensive.

Braid for Frogs
Frog rod is also my pitch/flip rod. 50# Power Pro, 12#YZH leader.
