Does he know how to be anything else?
  2. That is one happy girl...great job JB on getting her out and her getting a fish.
  3. If you're doing jerkbaits with that rig, I would not go XF. Rods in the $100-$150 range - Dobyns Fury 703SF (Medium/Fast) - $120, Diawa Tatula XT 701MFS (Medium/Fast) - $100, Diawa Tatula XT 731MHFS (Medium-Heavy/Fast) - $100, Diawa Tatula 701MFS (Medium/Fast) - $150, Diawa Tatula 721MHFS (Medium-Heavy/Fast) - $150 Up to your limit - Dobyns Sierra 703SF (Medium/Fast) - $170, Dobyns Sierra 704SF (Medium-Heavy/Fast) - $170 I have Diawa and Dobyns rods and am very pleased with them. All those rods have gotten good vibes from people here
  4. Since my 'nippers' are attached to my vest, when I bring my rods upstairs for leader/line replacement I'm using a pair of Fiskars F9495 - 4.75" Thread Snip Scissors I nicked from the wife. Handles everything from the 4# YZH to 50# Power Pro without a problem.
  5. That's my 'slot' for keepers - though only every other one in that range is kept. I love Bass cooked under the broiler. Decent Crappie and slab-Sunnies also go home with me.

Ya...besides TW and Amazon, my main go-to is FishUSA - they have things neither of the other two have...like a much larger selection of colors in all the Rapala lines. Fast too...this past Friday I lost a Rattlin' Rap 08 Bluegill, ordered a replacement from FishUSA on Saturday...arrived today.
  7. I know I've said it before - but I've been burned by E-Bay, both as seller and buyer, too many times. I don't have the spare cash to toss those dice again. I'll pay the extra to be assured of getting the right item...and actually getting it...than chance being burned again.
  8. I just stay completely away from E-Bay - problem solved.
  9. Original bags - if I still have them, 4mil Plymor bags if I don't. Bags in Plano Open Compartment (3607) boxes - separated by type. Boxes in my Advanced Angler II Bag - I can get 7 boxes in that thing.
  10. $11 - cuts all my line. https://www.amazon.com/Boomerang-Tool-Company-Retractable-Stainless/dp/B002BX0QXK/ref=pd_lpo_200_t_0/136-6643560-8245451?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B002BX0QXK&pd_rd_r=a44c39e7-831b-44d4-93bc-4875749bf24b&pd_rd_w=CLGUb&pd_rd_wg=Lr6Ke&pf_rd_p=7b36d496-f366-4631-94d3-61b87b52511b&pf_rd_r=BJ7627YBH0NX07WBK22V&psc=1&refRID=BJ7627YBH0NX07WBK22V
  11. Dobyns Fury - I have the 705CB (crankbait) and it's a great rod...little over that $100 mark, but well worth it.
  12. On average, your wing-span is the same as your height...that's how I measure the 6' of leader I use - I'm 6'1"...it's close enough.
  13. I don't have the backpack...but I do have the bag. If the backpack is as good, then I'd definitely recommend it. My AA-II Bag seems solidly constructed, on it's second season now and no issues.
  14. I'm with you there - it's a bit finicky for this 'one-eyed wonder', so I just stick with a double-uni for all my line joins.
  15. If you're watching the Bass Resource channel on YouTube...then yep, that's our Glenn - along with his lovely wife on many videos.
  16. Eesh - I'd toss an e-mail with the pic to them and see what they have to say about it.
  17. Next question - where'd you buy it from?
  18. What lure is that - is it a brand name or a knock-off?
  19. Ask someone who does rod building @Delaware Valley Tackle, Mike - you got any tips for the gentleman?

I got two of those within 40 minutes of me.

An hour to one, hour and-a-half to the other...that's a lot better than my time.
  22. I smoke - but when I'm done with a cig, I 'field strip' it and stuff the filter into one of the pockets of my cargo pants. Drinks are taken in a refillable container, Ziplocs or wrappers go into the milk-crate behind my seat. I don't keep big ones - just the 2#-3# ones that are good eating (IMO), plus the lake I fish is 14,000+ acres...so there's plenty to go around. I also huff in disgust at some of the things I see people doing at shore-spots, launch ramps, or even out on the water. "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children."

Which may be why my local Dick's is expanding the fishing section...closest F&S store to me is almost 8 hours away in Champaign, IL.
  24. The worst part is - those boards are so complex that the main way of fixing the units is to test the boards, find the bad one, and just replace the board...plug and play repair. They don't even really repair the boards...just toss the bad ones.

I think it has to do with the particular market. Before they locked their doors and went to curbside delivery only because of the pandemic, I stopped in my local Dick's for a MH/M spinning rod that was on sale. The fishing department there had actually increased in size a bit. The hunting department was gone, replaced by the canoe/kayak department and where the canoe/kayak department had been was given over to sports-wear. Closest other 'major' sporting goods stores to the local Dick's are Scheels (11 miles) and Cabelas (21 miles). If your Dick's has other chain stores closer, then they might reduce the fishing department.
