  1. So when and where is the party...and who's bringing the booze?
  2. Need to do some work on that canoe. Last year - six position rack This year - 12 positions 10 rods, net, anchor.
  3. Exactly - I've got rods that others turn their noses up at...but they work fine for me and I have no complaints so far. Have 3 new brand/styles this year...we'll see if they work good for me.
  4. For smaller baits, I use the VMC Spinshot hooks. Larger baits, especially with bubba-shot I use the VMC Ike Wide Gap Spinshots
  5. If I have to replace trebles - Owner ST-36 is my choice as well.

Pay attention Be careful 50+ years of fishing, I've NEVER 'caught' myself or a fishing partner.
  7. Only posts that violate rules will be deleted by the mods. You can't delete posts yourself.
  8. The one I toss spinner and chatters on that I posted top of thread? Ya, I throw buzzbaits on that as well.
  9. Well, if we add miscellaneous tools Pocket Knife Nail Clippers Razor Knife Then the Med-Kit has Hemostat Tweezers 2 Scalpel handles 2-#10 scalpel blades (foil sealed) 2-#12 scalpel blades (foil sealed)
  10. Well, the Leatherman in my pocket in case I have to cut a hook...never happened yet. Small pair of pliers on a retractable cord clipped to my vest for most hook removals. Long, double articulated pliers for deep-hooked fish. Line cutters - also on a retractable cord clipped to my vest.
  11. Since I have one of those exact rods, maybe I'll give it a try with chatters this year...see how it works for me. I could also try it on one of my spinning rigs - also a MH/M rod.
  12. A lot of it depends on the size of the lures, but Medium-Heavy/Fast is what I use for 3/8oz and 1/2oz.
  13. Maybe it should be that way...wake people up to the fact that there's not much actually made here.
  14. My personal opinion? If ANY part of the rod was made elsewhere - guides, seats, etc - then it shouldn't have 'Made in the USA' on it. I know it's finicky, but that's just how I roll.
  15. My rigs Pres-20 - UL Pres-25 - ML Trion-30 - M Trion-35 - MH
  16. It'd be easier if we had a different view. In front of you, close, with your height/mass also included...then we could guess-timate a size. If you got measurements of it, there are calculations to get weight based on length and girth. Based on that pic - it's going to be very difficult.
  17. It's not that I find it gross, it's just that it's harder to tie lures on, make casts, and do retrieves when your hands are slimy. So ya, I rinse/dry my hands off if I have to handle a fish...just because.
  18. According to some people. I have 4 spinning rigs for the canoe and my 'spare' spinner in the truck for shore fishing. None of them have braid - 3 mono, 2 YZH. I don't feel the need for braid on spinners at all.
  19. (raises his hand) Power Pro Original on all three rigs I'm using braid on this year. Hasn't given me issues the past years, and is relatively inexpensive...why change?
  20. Probably - recreational fishing is big industry here in MN. So the Gov's latest order makes sense...also includes golf "Under Executive Order 20-38, facilities that may reopen or remain open include: Bait shops for live bait Outdoor shooting ranges and game farms Public and private parks and trails Golf courses and driving ranges Boating and off-highway vehicle services, including: Marina services Dock installation and other lake services Boat and off-highway vehicle sales and repair, by appointment only"
  21. Cloth topped electrical tape. https://www.amazon.com/Harness-Adhesive-Automotive-Electrical-harnessing/dp/B075HY7VL5
  22. I caught two bass and a northern on a Whopper Plopper last year - tied directly to braid. Same rig was used with spinner baits...and the fish in my profile pic was caught on that. I don't see an issue using braid with topwaters.
  23. Line twist definitely still happens with spinning reels for a variety of reasons, incorrect spooling is only one of them. Low memory line helps as does application of a line conditioner when using Mono/FC/Hybrid lines (I prefer KVD). Couple videos on how to prevent/fix line twist https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/line-twist-fix.html https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/line-twist-spinning-reel.html https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/line-twist-fix-how-to.html
  24. Depends on a variety of things. During summer you'll find bass not only in the shallows, but also deeper. Of course there could be a sunken island in the middle of the lake - as shown by this part of the lake I fish. See the darker blue in the middle of the light blue? That's a sunken island. Also if you look to the right and a little above that - there's a 'hump' at the end of a point (dark blue oval surrounded by medium blue)...another spot out from shore that bass could congregate. Get a contour map of your lake and study it. Read up on how to locate bass based on those maps.
  25. Meanwhile - us 'next door'... Under Executive Order 20-38, facilities that may reopen or remain open include: Bait shops for live bait Outdoor shooting ranges and game farms Public and private parks and trails Golf courses and driving ranges Boating and off-highway vehicle services, including: Marina services Dock installation and other lake services Boat and off-highway vehicle sales and repair, by appointment only
