  1. I've switched to a single knot for all terminal applications. For any joining work, leader or backing-to-mainline...double Uni.
  2. I don't remember what I paid for it - was a college student at the time and used some of my summer earnings to get it. It is mostly plastic - not even the modern graphite or composites they use now...so in a way it's delicate. Can't use acetone for a 'full flush' as it'd dissolve some of the parts.
  3. I think my 500R was one of the early low-profile reels. Round baitcasting reels go back decades before that.
  4. Ambassdeur 500R - purchased late 70s...early 80s - can't fully remember. Still have it, still usable, but right now have no need of a 5.3:1 reel.
  5. I dunno about WI or CA laws specifically - but here in MN, Boating While Intoxicated carries the same penalties as Driving While Intoxicated...including UP TO forfeiture of the boat.
  6. For big bass, I'm also in the release it group. I DO keep those in the 2#-3# range as I've found it's the best compromise between amount of eating flesh and taste...once they get bigger the eating-quality goes down rapidly. I think the percentage is much lower than that...at least what I remember from my Aquatic Biology classes long ago.
  7. Ya, but the powerboat users are MUCH more numerous than us canoe launchers. They also have a habit of standing around jawing with each other while waiting for the ramp to clear. That's the issue when you have a line of 15 or more boats waiting to launch at a 2-slot ramp.
  8. Plus, from rumblings here and there, the President had a minor redesign for 2020 and it's not quite as good as the older versions. I'd even consider 'dropping' to the Trion. I used a Trion-30 for a number of techniques last year and it did well. Added a Trion-35 to my arsenal this year.
  9. It's more the crowds at the launch ramps with so many out of work and having spare time that they're worried about. That's my thought on it anyway.
  10. Other states have had issues with crowding at the launch ramps. I think that's what triggered this directive.
  11. Thanks for that clarification, Blue. I think the one's I've put up are 'safe', and I'll be sure to not cross the line.
  12. There's another thread where someone said that fishing is allowed - so long as it's shore, canoe or kayak...powerboats are now banned from lakes.
  13. Whoops - @A-Jay is not going to be happy to be denied his Lund.
  14. Aquatic Biology program - it's what I was studying until I ran out of money (cough) 40 years ago (cough). Specialties include Wetlands Ecology Fisheries Biology Aquatic Systems (my specialty) All qualify you for a career in your state's Department of Natural Resources/Department of Fish and Game/etc. Basically your whole career with that revolves around the water.
  15. Ya, now I'm confused too as I've posted direct links to my Youtube vids, and I know A-Jay does the same...all his trip-vids are direct links from his Youtube channel...and there are others who do the same Long as we don't specifically ask for people to watch them on our channel or 'beg' for likes and subscriptions, I think we're in the clear. One of the mods or Glenn want to clear this up?
  16. Personally? I'd use Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 8# for that selection of techniques. Make sure to add a bottle of KVD Line and Lure Conditioner - makes the YZH much more manageable.
  17. I'm much more interested in NOT having hooks embedded into fingers - so even though my canoe is low enough that I could grab the fish, I use a net...always.
  18. I don't worry too much about damage to my crank or jerk paintjobs. Just seems to me that they'll look more like injured baitfish and there-by be more attractive - ambush predators like bass go after the weak and injured as they're easier catches.
  19. Speed - remember that FLW score is based on total weight. The faster they can get the fish in, weighed, and released, the more fish they can catch. Using a net would take more time and result in fewer casts.
  20. Mine aren't dedicated to just a specific thing...other than the ML rig. The rest do multiple duty - the MH Baitcaster is also my spook rig, the M Spinning rig doubles for jerkbaits...etc, etc, etc.

  22. His problem, I think, is he's using the 'original' Plano boxes - the ones with the molded-in, flip down tabs...not even Prolatch. Even just upgrading to Prolatch would be an improvement.
  23. Ice is off the lakes, earlier this week we had a 70o high...but today?
