  1. ^ What he said. I've learned over time that when you think you got something over on the wife...she's just gathering evidence.
  2. My opinion? Why not just go whole-hog and go hookless. I fish for food for my freezer...yes, even bass. Anything that might help me to achieve that is a good thing. So the barbs on my hooks will remain 'intact'.
  3. I used 10# YZH on my M/F Spinner last year for jerks. Treating it with KVD virtually eliminated the memory issue.
  4. I know they toned it down...but it's completely gone now? The horror, the pain....
  5. Well...there's always Page 3 to liven things up.
  6. @Delaware Valley Tackle, Mike - you're our 'guru'...got an answer for him?
  7. Nothing new there.

Yep - that was close to my thinking 'up top' of the thread.
  9. Wife showed me something yesterday. Every year, the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation get together for Marina Sirtis' birthday...this year they did it via video conference call. Still had fun, joking and such, but kept distance. There are ways to still interact, but keep that distance.
  10. Just cruising I hope - I wouldn't want to even catch anything in the Thames. (My now deceased sister-in-law lived in Kensington - I've heard...stories) BTW: Aren't you awake awful early...what is it...5am there?
  11. If you do go for the President - make sure it's a 2019 or earlier model...they did some redesign and from what I've heard it's not as good anymore. I have been impressed with the Trion-30 I used last year, and got a 35 for my MH spinning rig. President-25 on the 702SF is my new finesse rig - replaces the Mitchell Avocet combo I used last year. Avocet is now my shore-fishing rig - stored in the truck rather than on the canoe.
  12. I have three old reels (40+ years), all three are usable, but I've retired them and they sit on a shelf for sentimental value. All ten of my current use reels are 3 years old or newer...half of them new this winter and never fished. Put those older ones away - get the youngin' a new rig.
  13. What reel did you get for yours? I got one of those rods this year myself - putting the President-25 that HAD been my UL reel on it. Got a President-20 for the UL.
  14. Obviously, you don't do much fishing. (jk)
  15. Here's a warning Glenn should put on the front page "Caution: Reading Bass Resource will cause the Bait Monkey to latch onto you and will seriously deplete your bank account."

If I'm fishing before the baitfish spawn (baby bluegills and perch) have moved into open water - I'll use larger baits as the bass are chasing LAST years spawn which has grown.
  17. Send the results of that here...as an organic chemistry minor back in college, I'll be sure to give the product a proper testing.
  18. Coke is the worse thing you can do for 'protection' as it's a heavy acid. Best thing I've found? Connect the battery cables then coat with dielectric grease. Don't coat before the connection because the grease will prevent electrical conductivity.
  19. During the 'off-season' (ice on the lakes) which is still going on here, I store my reels in a rolling drawer unit with a thin (1/2") thick layer of foam under. Rods are stood up in a corner of the 'man cave'. During season, the rods are just kept in their 'carry' position on the canoe.
  20. More than that - graphite is crystallized cabon. Only difference between graphite and coal is how the atoms are arranged. Up from graphite is diamond - which is also just crystallized carbon...just much more 'compacted'.
  21. Yep. We got a lake here that I'd love to try out...and it's public. Problem it, it's totally surrounded by private property, I'd have to find someone willing to give me permission to fish and/or launch the canoe from their property.
  22. Bolded line says how it's legal. Private access...the owner(s) can do what they want despite the 'open lakes' declaration.
  23. Sounds like the combination of two things 1) The spool is in 'free-spin' (tension turned off) and 2) Line memory - the line wants to be 'looser' than it is on the spool. Only suggestions I have is to tighten the tension knob a bit and/or Get a good line conditioner (KVD) to reduce line memory.
