The NFC blank Kistlers we’re great. I don’t know who he sources his blanks from now but it’s not Northfork. They’ve doubled in price though. You used to get Heliums for $200-230 regularly. They always have some sale going on to bring the rods back to market where they should be. Nothing against Trey or his rods but I don’t care for the new market strategy personally. I have an older KLX squarebill rod that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Some friends and I were camping on the bank of Kentucky Lake at Land Between the Lakes 10 years or so ago. Woke up one night to a pack of animals in our camp, going through our gear, and circling a tent. Their snouts were pushing in on the sides of the tent and sniffing. There were at least 3 of them and we never knew for sure what animal it was. But there were paw prints all over our campsite the next morning. I’m sure it was coyotes but have always wondered if they were red wolves since that area had a small population. One curious paw could have sliced the tent and things could have gotten really interesting

MLF will never have the Classic and that will forever be an obstacle to overcome. They seem to be open to creative ways to curb that such as heavy hitters. I think it’d be really cool if they had an old school derby each year. Pick a southern, shallow lake with lots of cover and fish a 3 day tournament with no graphs. Sponsorships would never let it happen but the fans would love it.

MLF was made for TV and BASS is produced for a live audience. MLF will always lack the crowd but their tournaments are much more online friendly and interesting. Everytime I turn on a Bassmaster tournament someone has run away with it and it’s not even contested by the final day. I find the MLF stages and weight resets more entertaining. As far as whether it’s total weight or 5 biggest, I don’t really care. I wouldn’t mind seeing MLF use both throughout the year. Heavy Hitters should be a 3 or 5 bag limit. However the smallmouth or ozark lakes really benefit from a total weight. It’s all about ratings and TV contracts.

Sounds like you’re causing a line abrasion when tightening the knot. I use a Palomar with fluorocarbon and have no issue but I really take my time tying it to make sure the lines aren’t crossed and pull the tag through loose as possible before cinching the main line.

More bites in morning and evening but biggest always seems to be early afternoon

I’m not throwing braid or fluorocarbon unless I have to. I have fluoro on a two bottom contact rods and a jerkbait rod. And braid on a couple frog/grass rods Copoly is my absolute favorite. It’s manageable, forgiving, strong knots, decent abrasion resistance, and affordable. I spend about $30 a year on bulk spools and change my line often. Nothing beats the feel of fresh line. Since most of my reels are 70 or 100 size I don’t waste much line either or not like in the days of 200 size reels

It seems to really out produce other baits on blue bird calm days. The fish suspend and won’t bite moving baits or anything dragged on the bottom.
