I have to be really dialed in to where the bass are positioned to break out a senko. They’re other presentations that just work better most of the time on my fishery. Honestly I use a senko more on a bullet weight flipping grass and pads than I do weightless especially in the spring.

They make a beautiful rod. I haven’t always been a huge fan of the performance but I will give them credit. Five years ago their product line was outdated and other companies had lapped them. They’ve really done a great job on newer rod lines and taking some chances on innovative components.

I catch more fish in the fall than any other season. Plus the party boaters go home and the hunters put their boats in the garage. The lake is less crowded and the fish respond. Also cooler weather, football Friday nights and Saturdays, and the excitement of the upcoming holiday season. Jan-Feb can sit on a fork.

Lot of great rods companies. Falcon and ALX have become my favorites for the $$$. Although my absolute favorite is a Kistler squarebill rod built on one of the NFC blanks. I’ve sold several other Kistler though and haven’t tried one of their new blanks. There are so many I haven’t tried yet such as Irod or Phoenix. Sold most all my Dobyns, St Croix, and Shimano. You’d go broke trying them all these days. The $12 rod tube priority shipping days are over and now it’s $32 leaving little meat on the bone.

My wife bought a pair of Costas from him last year and I’ve purchased about 5 reels from him over the years. I haven’t had any issues. It’s not unusual to find discounted Costa models with plastic lenses for $100 now that they are owned by luxottica

Pick up a jar of real lemon juice, not the concentrated stuff. One part juice, one part simple syrup, two parts bourbon. Pour over ice and you have a favorite of mine, a simple whiskey sour.

People pay if for some reason. I’d never pay over $30. There are so many great $40 bottles….

I’ve come close to buying a virtus rod several times. Problem is I don’t “need” another rod. I own mostly Falcon rods and feel confident the Virtus would be a great fit for me.

They are all going to taste like ethanol at first. You will eventually move past that but it does take time. I’m in no way an expert but here are some thoughts. Start with a quality bourbon in a whiskey forward cocktail like an old fashioned. The bitters and fruit will help but there is not a liquid mixer. Knob creek 9 is a good one to start with and won’t break the bank. Buffalo Trace or Eagle Rare is a solid straight sipper for a beginner but are tough to find at msrp. Don’t pay $50. Don’t be afraid to stray from 80 proof whiskeys. Higher proofs will generally have more robust flavor profiles that you may be easier to locate through the ethanol. Just my experience. Adding ice or water will help you more than most anything else. Finally, try multiple distilleries and see what you prefer. Whether it be Wild Turkey, Bookers, Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, etc. Each have pretty distinct flavor profiles that flow through most of their product lines.

I own 2 of the zillions and here is what I love most about them. I can tie on any bait and not adjust anything. From a senko to a swim jig to a 3/4oz spinnerbait. And on top of that I can burn down a bank with a swim jig bomb casting, skipping, and pitching without turning any knobs. It does not cast as far as other reels but the control and fishability is better than any reel I’ve owned.

This is certainly true with Spro Little John’s. They all require tuning out of the box but a few seem to have a sweet spot the others don’t. I throw a LC 1.5 a lot too and those seem to be more consistent bait to bait. But when you find a LJ tuned just right it will hammer fish.

Well I finally disassembled the reel today and discovered the issue. The tension washers were oriented correctly but the washer that goes between them and the drag nut was incorrectly installed between the tensioner washers and the reel. Magically the drag works perfect now.

The 4” is great. I like the thin body as getting a hookset is super easy. I hooked into a total of one fish using the full size hog. It was a giant that was in a treetop on 10ft of water. My partner missed the lip and it dove under the boat and broke me off. Our best guess is it was 9 plus.

The dial only changes the position of the magnets.

The packaging of the new Rapala soft plastics is odd to me. Rapala has always had a very conservative, old school look to their marketing and these look like Googan.

Not to be a contrarian but including plastic and schematics is useless. The plastic does nothing to protect the reel in the box and schematics are available online. We are used to reels being packaged that way but it’s just wasteful.
